So... you're telling me that humanity is the imitation crab meat of the universe.

I like it.

Honestly I have little else to back up the idea with.  But it would solve the problem of what the Proto-Reaper had three eyes and what the Collectors were doing to themselves in those experiments.

Of course, the fact its never hinted at in the game and the questions "why would they try to merge genetic material together in such a way?" are raised.  Though to that question I could hazard a guess:

The Reapers have failed to create a new Capital ship during the last Cycle, and this Cycle seems to be a repeat (based on tests done by the Collectors, abducting people from many species).  But something new, a new possibility, is discovered by their new minions - Human genetic material seems to be highly compatible with other species.  So as a test, they attempt to merge their genetic material with Prothean and discover the result is Reaper compatible.  Humanity suddenly becomes very important to the Reapers, as they may hold the key to a greater source of compatible species for Reaperisation.

That's just off the top of my head.  But it might work, at a stretch of the imagination.  If anything Asari would make a better choice >_>

Talking about the human Reaper reminds me of this comic

Thanks for the reference, wild speculation incoming:

Remember how
* the Reapers tried to build a Prothean reaper and failed
* the Collectors were running baseline genetic comparisons between their species and humanity
* the human genetic code is very malleable
* Protheans have four eyes?

I leave you to speculate for yourselves. Always thought the third eye and the mandibles were because of the transition from human to something else though (and still think so) - yet the Prothean design and the appearance of the human reaper is interesting.

My guess is it was supposed to look like a giant husk...

Exactly my thinking. The human genetic malleability theme has never been picked up again, and if we assume that the Reapers not only return from darkspace to exterminate a threat to their rule, but to increase their numbers, the Prothean cycle was a failure to them.

Very well, we may be reading too much into it. But there's still dangling plot threads out there with the Collectors and the human genetic code that should have been answered. I find it strange that the main theme of ME2 & ME3 is "create a human reaper" (right until the end of London), and suddenly - starchild, "this is the final conclusion of Shepard's journey". It's unsatisfying.

Edit: There we go.

Indeed.  And then suddenly in the last few minutes we're supposed to swallow that the Reapers are actually Galactic Peacekeepers who are protecting everyone from self-destructive inevitabilities to avoid 'chaos'.

Yeah...  Sorry if I still have a bit of (maybe misplaced) trust in Bioware's ability to write a story.

Nothing wrong in that, i still trust them to write a good story especially since they for the most part proved it with every other part of ME3.

Even the dialouge when Sheppard lands on the citadell indicates that there is a human reaper being made, that the used the beam to transport humans and turn them to goo. That the citadell would work as an Reaper egg, but no. Nothing, just A friendly ghost asking you to use a magic machine to destroy the universe

For the most part.  I can forgive certain weird elements, but the ending is so surreal and out of nowhere that its got to be a 'red herring'!

Hi all. I've been searching for information about the reaper's core, the reaper-human larva and those things and I've got a question. EDI was made with reaper tech... Do you believe that she could have been made using parts of the Sovereing's core and being EDI/Sovereign just like Ocelot/Liquid in the MGS games?

i just finished my me1 playthrough for the extended cut and i noticed in the final confrontation with saren when soverign takes control of his body through the implants, the edges of the screen are overlayed with a red-black aura unique to that scene
it was very reminiscent of the oily shadows in the TIM confrontation in me3, further suggesting indoctrination/ shepards mind reconstructing the scene

if this observation has already been brought up or is rendered obsolete by the extended cut, forgive me as i have yet to play it
i also could not get screen shots sadly

Well...in a way...you could say that maybe the catalyst has found two new ways to achieve this reproduction much easier and without the cycles, if taking everything at face value? control: VI in Shepard-form says: Please send a tenth of your population every year to out processing-chambers, a lottery will decide who gets teh honour of being transcended. ynthesis: Everyone is now partly Reaper with implants, and when the Reapers need a new one to conquer new galaxies they push the button and half of the human husks happily get liquified for the greater good!

Could roughly translate as "Mass Effect 3 will take place on Earth, London is important. Also don't read too much into this."
Or, if you do read too much into it as I have, "Mass Effect 3 will take place on Earth, London is an Indoctrination Zone (London calling to the imitation zone), watch out for Harbinger, the ending choices are indicitive of a Red Herring."

However, I WOULD agree with (I believe it was Gunslinger's Assessment) of the CD cover that they are clearly referring to London Calling on the disc, the references to yellow eyes in London are very telling.

The Atomic weight of Iron could STILL be referring to Aquetias or however you spell the damn thing,

No clue on -128 Fahrenheit,

UK intelligence Services, no idea. Maybe seeing connections? Either way, another tie back to London.

Red Herring... well. Consider what thread we're in.

Right, the lyrics of London Calling can be seen as inspiring the indocrination of Shepard in some parts. Eerie, if not coincidental.

Aquetas, and it's Iron Canyons, another possible link to Indoctrination since in ME2 you have to fight off a horde of Husks and blow up a Reaper artifact. Furthered by Aquitas having a glitchy quest marker in ME3, but could just be a bug and another coincidence.

-128.5 F, reference to Earth, no idea what else. . . . . coldest point on Earth, possible link to Wintersun - Starchild only because it's something with the word Winter in it. Further link to the song Starchild which has some eerie lyrics.

SAS, MI6, another link to London. Espianoge. Spies. Indoctrination?

Red Herring, too right.

Thats the atomic weight of iron.
Maybe the -128.5 F is a hint at a planet with that temperature in the game.
Quick! To the wiki!
