Maybe the Real Coats is dead and that the Coats that we meet is just like EVA from Mars Ruins mission.

But nobody really knew who he was before the invasion either so why all the extra effort to maintain a cover?

The thing that gets me about the "weirdness" with the Citadel is that the EC changed some things to clarify.. like the appearance of the Crucible overhead. They did NOT change, and indeed added some, of the inconsistencies within the Citadel. It still feels wrong. Something is missing. The bodies, the helmet, every bit of it. So while they could have taken the time to clarify those bits, they didn't. I wonder why none of us really picked up on Coats before the EC, he seemed wrong then as well.

Coats is a shady character. I never liked him, something is wrong about him. The way he looks: dark skin, dark shades, eyes look creepy not only on citadel but in general. He was introduced late into the game as you said. He has this sinister look, this is how bad guys are usually portraid in games. So I'm waiting for something more to be reveald later.

He doesn't look remotely like the character that was supposedly him in the trailer either.  Think maybe its an imposter pretending to be him, and is getting away with it due to communications and computer records being rather lacking during the Reaper invasion?

I've suspected this since my first playthrough. The coats we know from the trailer should be build like Vega and his face looks much different. His hair too.

That jerk that Shepard does when he rolls out of the beam and Anderson calls out for him has always bothered me. That noise is not normal. Has anybody been able to track down that sound file and see if it's used in any other part of the game or what it's file name is? Any other information on it?

Yes, I honestly missed this part about him being the same guy from Big Ban. He doesn't look even remotly like him.
In other cinematic trailers with Shepard and Ashley they look just like in game, well almost. But why do 2 different models that dont look alike.

There was some speculation about him, but nothing concrete (bar the infrasounds when he's nearby).  His body on the citadel is new to the EC.

Which is very interesting indeed, almost like Bioware is giving us a little wink and saying "keep looking at this guy, trust us".

I actually thought he was going to turn out to be a bad guy and try to sabotage the beam run somehow.

Ohhh I was keeping an eye out, I was expecting him to stab Shepard in the back or something. He is really portraid like a bad guy. Everything about his looks screams: Hey look how everybody looks normal and I'm the only one that dont.

I kind of thought the helmet was sheps missing helmet from the ME2 crash site when I first saw it. I'll stick to that idea, given I will never believe they made it to the citadel. Basically, there is no beam. It's a beacon. An indoctrination beacon. And destroy blows it up. Anything else = indoctrinated.

I also don't think Shep is special. I think all that 'special' stuff is part of the Indoctrination process; to play on fear, ego, sympathy. I'm sure the reapers would use him/her if the chance presented itself, but from in game clues, I see London as a trap similar to the Crusible. Everyone is compelled towards that 'beam' and nobody that gets near it comes back the same; if at all.

Yeah, Big Ben Coates looks like a rugby player.  Very stocky and has a flat nose.

Major Coats during the battle for London is more normal in build, and lacks the tough and beaten up features.  Not to mention he's got more hair, and its rather well styled compared to the buzzcut Big Ben Coates had.

Its very likely he was killed while sniping from Big Ben, and an indoctrinated agent took his identity and dog tags.  Its like the resistance would be less suspitous of a mid-ranking officer, especially one with a story about being stuck inside the most famous landmark in Britain for days and killing lots of Reaper forces - and its likely Anderson wouldn't have known anyone from the London branch of Alliance HQ either.

This fits in with Coates too.  How did Anderson find out about the 'Conduit'?  He's not very clear about that.  All we know is the Resistance was busy avoiding major cities for weeks or months on end, then suddenly they get convinced en-mass to go to London?  And who was apperently fighting in London?  Coates.

Coates feeds the Resistance the information, and in turn gets trusted by Anderson and becomes his right hand man on the ground.

Oh for the love of...

Or they're just saying, very simply, this guy died and was harvested while you were unconscious.

Seriously, the Indoctrination Theory is still alive?  Half the bits from the EC are specifically in there to counter IT claims!  Hackett's acknowledgement that someone is aboard the Citadel, the command for Joker to retreat, even the wildly-improbable clip where the Normandy comes to pick up whatever teammates you had storming the beam with you.  If the ending is all a hallucination, why the heck go to the trouble of making it a more plausible hallucination?

Seriously.  It's over.  The EC was supposed to bring the "hidden ending" and it's not here.  All that stuff with the Catalyst actually happened.

I am by no means a supporter of indoctrination theory but there are heaps of details that don't add up that are still worth examination. The biggest is explaining the breath scene then we work our way backwards from there. If you are not interested in entertaining the notion that maybe not everything was clarified in the EC then this is probably not a thread for you.

Because I couldn't believe the IT thread was still around. I saw it pop up again on recent threads and figured people were just discussing how the EC answered question or lamenting the missed opportunity. I didn't expect to find people seriously contemplating a whole new conspiracy theory.

Which explains why he was dead afterwards....  Oh wait.  He was in 3/4 the end scenes prominantly.

Lazy thinking ahoy!  Seriously, think or listen before you post.  You'll look less stupid.

Its not a whole new conspiracy theory.  Infact, its not a conspiracy theory.

Ask yourself; in both the original and EC, why the relay explosions original from the Bahak system. You know, the location of the Alpha relay... that couldn't possibly emit RGB, as it does not exist at the time of the 'choice'. That's all the proof I need to see that there is something amiss. Everything else is gravy.

While I agree there something wrong with Coats, I'm not going to base it off the fact that he looks different in the trailers.

I bumped the volume on the Citadel scene before Shep arrives. Hopefully the sounds I mentioned some pages back are now audible. All I've done here is give a volume boost on the quiet parts (groan and faint reaper noise) and cut the volume of Sheps arrival/wake up noise so I don't deafen anybody. The first few seconds are the keeper with the helmet, and the ambient noise is actually pretty similar to the ambience in the breath scene, although I'm still pretty certain Shep is in London at the end.
