Was the Ending a Hallucination? - Indoctrination Theory Mark II!

Why? Because my shep, way before the IT, was filled with dismay and hatred towards the child. "NO, frack you, I just got done 2 minutes ago making TiM splatter his brains out, and synthesis is odious. It does away with variety and difference.". But given a refusal ending, make a nice speech and let things go... that's not my shep. My shep does not know he's fighting indoctrination, that these are false choices. He suspects. But on the offchance he is wrong, he chooses destroy. Edi can be rebuilt. The geth can return one day. What was made can be made again. But this may be the one chance to end the reapers, if it's true (which it seems too good to be true.)
It's that simple... stay focussed. That's my shep.
Still liked refusal, mind.

"...and their sacrifices have no honor if the mission fails."
How many times does Shepard say 'stay focused'? We all should have been paying as much attention to those words as the NPC that was being addressed at the time. What is your mission?
Thanks
Javik: "Shepard, you still believe you can get through this with your honor intact. Stand in the ashes of a trllion dead souls and asks the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer." - Only at the end is Shepard faced with a decision that could affect his honor.
Garrus: "If some over here have to die so that over there millions can live, could you pull the trigger?" - Only through the ending choice is this question given meaning.
Javik "Do not waver. Victory is never won without difficult choices." - "I've had to make plenty of those" - "There may be more!" - Again, only through the ending choice is this given relevance.
Those are not 100% quotes, but they are pretty accurate. And they all point to one result: There is only ONE choice.
Shepard: And the colony?
James: It was either them… or the Intel we had on the Collectors – Intel we could’ve used to destroy them. I chose the Intel.
Shepard: It’s hard enough fighting a war, but it’s worse knowing no matter how hard to try, you can’t save them all.
Anderson: Exactly
Liara: There’s no way for you to save them all.
Hackett: I sacrificed the entire second fleet to provide cover for the Third and the Fifth to retreat.
Garrus: I didn’t say there wouldn’t be casualties. It’s something Turians are taught from birth. If just one survivor is left standing at the end of a war, then the fight was worth it, but humans want to save everyone. In this war, that’s not going to happen.
Wrex: We’ve had to make a lot of tough choices to ensure we don’t all die off.
James: I had no choice. I killed him, and Destroyed the Collector Ship. It got ugly. We lost most of the colonists and all but one of my squad. Not exactly a textbook operation.
Shepard: You can’t blame yourself for being put in a tough situation. And if you were promoted then something must have gone right.
James: Sure, but…
Shepard: If you saved them all, would things have worked out better?
James: I… I don’t know… I don’t think so…
Shepard: The right choice is usually not the easy one
James: Did you know that before you joined the N7?
Shepard: Yeah. That’s why I was asked. And that’s why they asked you. There’s not a single N7 that hasn’t sacrificed, either themselves or their soldiers, at some point.
Victus: Haven’t these men sacrificed enough?
Shepard: I understand. This kind of sacrifice is the hardest to ask for, but your men signed on for it, and so did you.
Victus: My men have lost hope Commander. Even if I wanted to finish the mission, they don’t.
Shepard: It’s your job to make them want to.
Victus: How?
Shepard: Their sacrifice means that others will never face what they faced here today. Remind them that those sacrifices have no honor if the mission fails.
Javik: You are now the avatar of this cycle. The exemplar of victory. Not just for humanity, or turians, or Protheans, but for all life. Every soul that has ever existed is watching this moment.
Shepard: Well, no pressure when you put it that way.
Javik: Do not waiver. Victory is never won without difficult choices.
Shepard: I know. I’ve had to make a lot of those.
Javik: There may be more. But I know you will see this through for all of us—No matter the cost.

Shepard: "So what happened to your creators?"
Starbringer: "We made them into a reaper"
Shepard: "Right........" *Backs away slowly*
Not saying that it makes any more sense but the catalyst didn't wipe out the creators. He preserved them along with other synthetics at the time. He does go on to say that they harvest both synthetic and organic life. Without the solution in place, Synthetics would evolve to the point where organics would be no match. It's sort of in line with Javik's philosophy about synthetics.

And...is Harbinger saying Serve us or save us? I can't make it out.
Neither. The sound he makes is not unique to him and has been heard by other reapers and destroyers throughout the game. Even Pre-EC.
Isn't it just as likely that he is saying Serve Us, and other Reapers were as well? It might be a part of their indoctrination tactics - demanding that people fall to their knees in service to their Reaper overlords.

Maybe if it really was Meer it could be because it's his imagination (and if they did a Hale Reaper voice it would be too noticeable) but yeah it sounds exactly like the first word when choosing Control where Shep at first has the 100% Reaper voice which gets toned down more and more.paxxton wrote...

would you guys pay to see IT if BW decided to do it that way
I
would bet that mostof us would pay to see IT, which makes it a win win
for BW and us. BW and EA make their money, we get the ending that we so
desperately want, and the ME franchise gets the treatment that it
deserves. This would also rejuvenate interest in the entire ME series
again, and would lead to fans playing through and buying the all games
all over again. Why wouldn't BW give us IT
bump
I would rather see an expansion with IT in it than your ME4 idea because I just can't wait
Can't..... wait..... too long. pluse if it's an expansion the size of Awakening, it wouldn't be too bad

It's this one that really makes you think about synthesis and control as it couldn't have been meant literally. James even said that the intel wasn't needed afterall.

With that choice, you are pretty much dooming them all to eventually save the galaxy; they'd be pretty unhappy. Of course it's all in Sheps mind at least.

I think it's gonna come to an end at comicon. They simply can't wait till the very end of their dlc schedule to reveal IT, because by then the only people who will be left playing the game are people who love the endings as they are. Though I must say I get chills thinking about all those literalists saying "So... the Indoctrination Theory was right afterall."DJBare wrote...
I agree, while Bioware have not fullfilled my hopes in the game, it's led to some very good discussions without becoming overly bitter, but I have to say that if Bioware are playing a mind game, they best be real careful how far they take it, because eventually people will turn around and say "I've had enough of this farce"HellishFiend wrote...

I was just thinking, when the Reaper shoots the Defense Committee, you can hear a ringing noise. I think that same noise is played when you get shot at by Harbinger in the cutscene during the run down to the beam. I think it's ALSO the same ringing that you hear between character flashes when you're shooting the conduit to trigger Destroy (Just one example, those flashes and the ringing are in all the choices.).
Geez, Shepard must not clean her ears much. At all. Ever.

While I hope they hint at or reveal something content-wise, I don't think it has to come to an end by then. They'll want the EC to sink in for a while and let people marinate on it and discuss, etc. If we're still talking about this next summer and they've not said one word or the other, and the DLCs don't outright clarify anything, it's probably time to move on.

They obviously are not happy with the endings.
We go through and come up with this theory, this amazing, wonderful theory that will make everyone happy...
We are insane cultists...
Would they prefer the endings we have at face value or an ending that is true to Bioware and to the series?
It's almost like they are dismissing this out of spite as they want something to hate. God, pessimists are lame.

Random YouTube tangents led me to this clip, and it got me wondering.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqrK0WYH6xE#t=1m41s
I've heard literalists use the conversation on Thessia with the VI, Vendetta, as "proof" that the whole Citadel and Starbaby scene was real. From an ITer's perspective, who are the "masters" referred to in charge of the cycle?
Maybe it's a Reaper-hacked VI, perhaps?
What do y'all think?
