One of the problems with any twist or mystery is the answer is always there after the fact, and too many people say after the fact "oh, yeah, it was obvious all along". That's got to chafe if you're a writer.

Eh, in that case he made the viewers think about what he wanted them to, human nature. The ultimate reveal isn't important to the plot or theme, its just icing.
added: To clarify, in the case of ME3, the ultimate reveal IS important to both plot and theme. IMHO it can't be left to speculation.
