We know of the sound, which sounds like a defibrilator.

You know, I'm not so sure about that now.  We know what a defibrilator sounds like in-game, since its part of Multiplayer when you revive a teammate.  Why would it be any different for Shepard?

But I have no idea what else could be making the sound...

Another thing that has always left me wondering is that last scene with Liara in the FOB, right before the final push to the beam.

What do people make of this? (IT or no IT)

That 'gift' from Liara just seems so... enigmatic. I'm not quite sure what it's supposed to mean.

Replaying ME2, listened to the Mad Prophet and noticed this:

"Humans are the hands of the Reapers"

Thought it was quite cool, though it was probably definitely just xenophobia :P

Never heard that line. Posted Image Maybe the batarian meant that the Reaper tentacles are made of humans. jk

Okay, minor thing that I have to say... a defibrillator doesn't do what 95% of people think it does. TV and movies make it out to be a magic resurrection device but it just doesn't work that way. They correct a dangerous rhythm, they don't go all Jesus on a corpse. A defibrillator works by causing an asystole (flatline), not fixing one. If the heart is in a rhythm that's going to kill you then the shock of the defibrillator will cause it to flatline, which quickly causes the body to start it back up. When restarted it will hopefully go to a normal rhythm. It's like rebooting your computer when Windows starts going to hell.

If Shepard died when getting teleported up, a defibrillator implant would not bring him back. Even if it did, simply restarting the heart wouldn't do any good if whatever caused it to stop wasn't also fixed. And there's no precedent for Shepard having super regenerating implants from Project Lazarus to go along with the defibrillator that there's no precedent for.

I realize that defibrillators are depicted as God reaching down and personally resurrecting critical characters in pretty much every piece of fiction ever, so yes this should be taken with a grain of salt. But at the same time remember Mass Effect's past reputation for trying to stick to realistic science and the flak they got for it when they strayed from that path (synthesis).

Yeah, just replace humans with <dispised minority group> and Reapers with <Satan equivalent> and you get how arbitrary extremist groups agitate people.

Mmmm, just thought it was quite interesting considering we may become the hand of the Reapers, and Coats is likely an agent...

Didn't notice any black eye on Shepard, but that strange sound still remains O.o

Just a note on Coats.

During the run through London: Just after the lone Rachni, few Marauders and husks, you come to a store. After you pass through it, taking out a few Marauders and Cannibals and drop down into a pit area you hear some radio chatter.

Marine: "The Destroyer spotted us. We're prepping Thanix missiles."

Coats: "Hold your fire. You won't do anything but ****** it off."

Note: Remember, Allers says about superior officers ordering subordinates not to attack Reapers. I'll have to get the exact quote.

Marine: "Roger that, but we may not have a choice."

Coats: "Understood."

First, it bothers me that they didn't at least 'try' and Coats is the one that stalled the attempt, ordering the Marine not to fire.

Second, if Coats is so convinced that the missiles won't work, then why bother with them at all. Why 'hold off'? So Shepard can be the one to '****** off' the destroyer?

This of course does not change my stance on Thanix Missiles. I think they are bogus.

This too.  If you want to restart someone's heart you need to use compressions, not jolt it full of electricity.  It essentially causes a seizure, not a restart - the heart isn't a battery!

Well this is why I think harbinger didn't shoot down the Normandy.

Also what if that sound was a defib..... but was a defib used on shepards Uncounsious body?

That one striked me as very odd too. As soon as Coats says that ****** off comment, I was reminded of what Allers says about indoctrinated military leaders on Earth, firing upon their own people so that they don't ****** the Reapers off. Hmm...

I'm not so sure about that. Rememer the scene where the asari officer has her units fire on the destroyer only to be completely vaporized. They only managed to distract the destroyer for all of five minutes. I'm not convinced Coates is a traitor. I think in that scene he's trying to save himself and his men from annihilation by not engaging the destroyer in a futile distraction attempt.

Hmm.  You mean under the waking nightmare theory, the way Starbinger says "wake up!" at high ems?  So what we're hearing is the defibrillator being used on Shepard as the EMT's are working on him while he's in the dream world we're seeing?
...  That's the best explanation I've heard thus far for that stupid noise.

Waking nightmare theory? Sorry, guess I was out longer than I thought...

Also I thought the weird noise you all were talking about was when Shepard falls down into the citadel.... works for both though.

Won't go into the specifics as to why he said that and all, it just reminded me of that Allers report real quick. The "nor trying to ****** off the reapers" thing.

May turn out to be true.. you never know. All I know is that noise has no visible reason to be there and it was not there before the EC, so it was added on purpose :o

Speculations about ambiguous statements:

twitter.com/BioEvilChris/status/222318207527157760
"There is DLC planned, but I can't say pre or post ending. You'll have to wait for details. Sorry."

(Not to be confused with:

"The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.")

Only thing I can take from that is post-ending DLC wasn't planned when the EC annoucement was made, but that it may have been planned since.  Maybe.

Or someone was/is telling porky pies, or is being a tease.
