The Reapers use outdated modem technology to communicate. OK. The real Reapers would be silent.

Good point but bear in mind it's a game we're talking about here.  Same reason radios are used, as well as weapons that look a lot (structurally) like weapons today, i.e. assault rifles, pistols, shotguns etc.  You would think that far in the future weapons would evolve more and look a lot different but again, it's a game.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just saying... Most of the thing we can see in Mass Effect will be available in the next 50 years or so.

Not necessarily. Some things dont really change. For example, a wheel is still shaped like a wheel because that is the best form suited to that function. The shape of a firearm is also unlikely to change because it's form is as well adapted to it's function as it is going to get.

Also, you write about blusterous yet pointless speeches...that's a new one for Shep. In this scene it might mean that either Shepard is not himself or everything around him isn't what it appears to be.

Doesn't matter, as it was already said, there too little about Refuse to properly 'speculate' about.

First of all though, it's clearly not Shep. It's the player talking. Anytime there is a 4th wall break in the game (or most games for that matter) the character looks at the camera. Like the whole Joker/Red October thing. Shep is gone by that point. He
stares directly into the camera for several seconds during the speech because those are the player's words, as requested by many after the original release.

And in my opinion the reason there is too little to speculate about is because there is simply nothing there.... I dont think it is something that BW intends to follow up on.

Wait a sec, a 4th wall break is usually the character talking TO the player/viewer/audience. Since when did we come to the conclusion that in ME3 is the other way around?

I think the Reapers being silent would actually be awesome, though.  Your menacing and ominous enemy fighting you without making a sound would be intimidating in and of itself I think.

But in the future there won't be any need for wheels (see superconductivity) and weapons will use energy instead of bullets. Like firing from implants in your fingers.

Not that it's broken, but that something more efficient could be produced.

For example, using weapons using pure energy or light, I believe that one weapon could suffice for a assault rifle, shotgun, pistol etc.  All you would have to do would be to adjust the intensity and whatnot of the round.

That's completely besides the point though. Does the lack of a need for wheels mean that wheels would look any different if they were still used? Obviously there will still be need for firearms, so they will be shaped the same (Hand positioning, stock positioning, etc, all suited for proper aiming and recoil handling). Even without recoil, they would still need to be shaped the same for optimum stability while aiming.

Can't wait till Saturday and the ME discussion panel. What do you think BioWare is going to reveal?

Earth DLC and Leviathan DLC.
(Hopefully Leviathan says something like "There is no AI which controls all Reapers.".)

Leviathan DLC would be cool.

I don't understand how a collective entity can claim to be controlling anything. The nature of anything that's collective is to self-manage itself, not impose its will.

Not sure. The Borg were supposed to be a collective too, yet they have something like a Borg-mother.

The Borg had gone through many retcons over the years until they were only the trolls of the galaxy in Voyager.

I mean without any of the horn-like sounds they use now.  IT would give the Reapers a sense of "do whatever you want, because it doesn't really affect us" kind of feeling.

ME3 has broken so many conventions already that I think it's reasonable to conclude that a look into the camera is simply a 4th wall break in either direction. We are projecting our personality into Shepard, are we not?

Bottom line is, if you dont believe me, go sifting through the "we are listening" topic, and observe how on almost every page there is a post asking for Shep to be able to say something very similar to "If I die, I'll die knowing I did everything I could to stop you", which is what Shep is saying when he looks into the camera.
