how come for a lot of guns we never see the user put a thermal clip in the gun?

Never said I didn't agree with you, I really preferred the idea they had in development for ME2 that they scrapped, being that you could fire the gun as much as you liked like in ME 1, but if you needed to cool down the weapon rapidly, you could flush the clip and fire again immediately, unfortuately it was cut due to balance issues.

Thats how I kinda figured it worked in ME2, yknow, for people other than the player because of balance, until Shepard herself shot down that idea in ME3.

Form following function I'm afraid.

Shame really. I'm with Conrad on this one. Even if he is the dumbest smart person I have ever seen. After that comment about the shrine in his bedroom and his nonexistent wife I keep worrying that he'll like, start sniffing my hair and ask for a lock of it, or maybe snap and try to harvest my organs or something.

Maybe Conrad will be part of whatever squad rescues Shepard from the rubble.

He'll be ordering them around, yelling "YOU ESCAPED US BEFORE, SHEPARD. NOT AGAIN." and "PRESERVE SHEPARD'S BODY IF POSSIBLE."

Also, is it frightening that not only did I recall that from memory, I also have all these other things concerning real world history, philosophy, physics and weapon design shoved in my head too?

Well, to be fair, you did a better job explaining it. I mostly just copied the descriptions of the guns from in-game. They same generally the same thing though.

I've had this thought myself. Going from simply needing the occasional alloy block for ammunition, to needing thermal clips is a big logistical no-no. Admittedly, the clips appear to be usable modularly, from platform to platform, but completely scrapping the internal heat dispersal unit is idiotic.

Also, it fails on a lore note as you really appear to be using ammunition, not heat sinks at all: you can theoretically eject one sink per shot, but still somehow have 400+ sinks in the larger weapons. And you're limited to around a dozen for the really powerful peices? Bullcrap.

I have to reload in reality and in most shooters. Once you've put thousands of rounds downrange, the novelty wears off.

Resource consumption most likely. Too much detail, might cause instability issues with the game. The gun is cooled by ejecting the thermal clip so I guess we're left to assume the thermal clip being ejected was put in the gun off screen during mission prep or just generally not on camera.

I never really figured it was 1 bullet = 1 sink.

More like 1 sink = this much cooling power, and some guns are less efficent. (Sniper rifles DID generate ALOT more heat than say assault rifles in ME1 if you recall.)

The idea that thermal clips are a recent invention also makes the fact that the people on the planet in Jacob's loyalty mission, who have been stranded there for 10 years, have thermal clips seem pretty weird.

Conrad, as we would describe him in the South, "Is book-smart but ain't got no sense."

He's one of these types that, given civilization had never advanced, would have been eaten by a bear when he tried to pet it.

Why is the question always, "Why does this exists?"
Should we not, instead, be asking "Why doesn't this exists?"

i justified it in my head by saying the hand that knocks the clip out actually puts a new clip in, but its a pretty shoddy idea.
either way the thermal clips are a reasonable break from reality, even though they dont cool down themselves ever. they just keep the heat they absorb permanently

like this guy.
why did bioware never fix the bug with verner in ME2? if its easy enough i can fix it on my xbox in literally 2 minutes, you think it wouldnt take much longer to make a patch.

Amazing game, I might add.

And sucks that the IT Gold Team are still suffering disconnection issues.  Its almost like the Reapers don't want to be beaten!

Oh no, it's definetly on the prinicple of cooling power. But it can be manipulated as 1 shot per sink, as you can reload every shot. If they had made it less player-friendly and forced you to choose between reloading preemptively and keeping your sink, due to limited numbers, it would be far more realistic.

They're a great intermediary idea, sinks are, as they exterminate the need to replace barrels, but would likely be scrapped entirely as soon as cooling tech caught up. Given the rapid pacing of friction resistant tech in the 21st Century so far, plus the advanced tech of the ME universe, sinks would likely be phased out in a number of years as cooling tech became efficient enough to work under higher strain.

The most advanced cooling tech (Frictionless Materials X) had already become efficient enough to allow nonstop fire without overheating in 2183.

There was no need for thermal clips.

But it was prohibitively expensive.
