The second line in my post was from face-value perspective. In other words, if we are to believe the Crucible is really an anti-reaper weapon, they would have destroyed it.

Sorry I misunderstood your post. My bad.
While I fully agree with you that the Crucible was a Reaper trap and a possible signal amplifier for a massive indoctrination (although Tirian Thorn, with whom I had a discussion about this, told me that a mass indoctrination could be a problem. Here his thought:  "It seems to me that those that are indoctrinated are useless for harvesting though - so I don't think they want mass indoctrination  Otherwise, why not just indoctrinate everyone? " ), this lead to this question: If the Crucible's purpose is not to shut down the Reapers, how are we going to win?

Conventional means?

*runs away

That was a good one :D. Someone in a another thread (can't remember which one) did calculate pretty accurately the number of the Reapers in the Galaxy, which was estimated to several thousands, If I can recall it good. When I remember that it took the complete quarian Flotte to destroy a single destroyer (laser-targeted by Shep), I doubt we have a sufficent fire power to take on them conventionally...

GDI.  GDI!  If anyone here is one of those guys who tweets questions to the devs, for the love of God, please ask if it's feasible for the current civilizations of ME to beat the Reapers conventionally.  I die a little bit everytime someone brings up that nonsense.  (Not directed at you of course, UJ)

I'm really not sure why/how being indoctrinated would preclude being gooified and used to fuel a reaper....

Because indoctrinated folks decay and their genetic material is inadequate.

Depends on the type of indoctrination. The mild kind of indoctrination that doesnt tamper with one's biochemistry shouldnt preclude gooification. But who knows.

Also, does your switch in icons imply that you think Vega should become a husk?:P

I think every type of indoctrination makes a subject decay. The rapid indoctrination just makes it faster.

I'm just experimenting with different profile photos. I'll change it back because I don't like this one.

True, if the victims are taken to extreme like husks, but the only thing the reapers require is for the indoctrinated to trust them, nothing more than that, they then just walk up to the reaper patrols and hand themselves over.

A sort of first stage of Indoctrination. Not efficient with the strong minded ones but still enough for the rest. Thanks for the very useful info.

It's enough for those in fear of their lives, probably most of the population, remember the propaganda at Grissom acadamy?, "Students of Grissom acadamy, only cerburus can protect you, the aliance soldiers will just get you killed"; one of the students asks "what if he is right"; it's only because Shepard is their to convince her otherwise that things work out, now imagine that kind of propaganda on a much larger and more powerful scale, you want to protect your family, friends, children, things are looking extremely grim, it's not too difficult to convince people in fear of their lives.

After 2000+ pages, no one was reading the earlier pages.

It can be restarted and discussion can continue.

Honestly, had he given that as a reason in his lockdown notice, I bet fewer people would've been angry about it.

Since the Gilligan's planet plants are labeled "dream_trees" what are the name of the assets in the actual dreams? If its the same then it would just be reused assets right.

The foliage in the pretty crash planet does not appear in any of the dreams. It really doesn't matter what the dream assets are called.

Actually it does.

All reused assets in the ending are more or less intentional if the ending really was just using your memories of things to create the illusion of the citadel, the dream planet, etc. correct?

Not exactly the reused assets are just recolored versions of whats in the game already. Things like the shadow broker like "engines" the "collector base hallway" and the "illusive man office central control unit are the stuff from shep's memory.

Not to mention, we know very well that the Reapers use diplomatic procedings as a way of luring people into indoctrination. It's reasonable to assume that someone on Earth would fall for it and wind up as a Reaper agent.

To be honest, I understand that reasoning entirely - I've been one of the big posters of stuff lately and there's probably ~1900 pages of that topic I'll never read :P

Moreover, whether we're ultimately right, wrong or somewhere inbetween, I wonder what Priestly et al think of these threads (obviously barring when they descend into carnage like the last one).

If we're right, I wonder who in bioware may be watching with interest to see how much we work out
If we're wrong, or interpret some bits totally the wrong way, well then I guess it's a good joke around the office :P

I don't see the whole point, why lock down a 2000+ page thread, just so that the same people open a new thread so the same people can continue the same discussions about the same topics as before?
Sure a thread like this isn't there so everyone will read through more than 2000 pages but for people to discuss new theories, their discoveries, what they think of it etc.
There are other threads which got far more off topic than this one and no body cared.

Yeah, you hear about how the Reapers are inviting all the remaining leaders on Earth into their superstructures to 'open negotiations'. That won't end well.

Very true. Was I dreaming or did I hear somewhere in the game (i think it was on the citadel, TV-News) that the Reapers were proposing the Earth leaders a kind of cease-fire/armistice negociations?

It worked extremely well when they tried that crap on Palaven.

For anyone that doesn't read the codex and haven't heard it mentioned yet, when the Reapers tried that on Palaven they certainly did send ambassadors in.  ...  And the ambassadors were packing atomic bombs.  "Large swathes of territory fell back under turian and krogan control."  Epic.

Thanks. So that's why I laughed so hard... The worse of it is that there were actually probably some (a lot in fact) people on Earth who really believed it.

I understand it too, Things probably looked a little too chaotic and he just needed to get Salrian on our asses. I was just surprised when I went to post something this morning and 'bam' Chris Priestly! I always treat him with suspicion but that’s 100% because of his Avatar choice opposed to any of his actions.

I’ve always entertained the thought that the moderators and even the dev’s stop by on occasion to check out how we’re all going in IT-land and what they think of it all, could we take Mr.Priestly’s presence as conformation that we’re being watched [cue twilight zone theme] or that we’re a little too close to the truth!? [My tinfoil-hat is on snug today]

Btw, Even if it was just luck, I’m glad you were there Byne to get everything rolling again. Thank you.

I want to bring up another argument by Literalists that has been coming up (though I know it's by a certain ultratroll that we all love to hate because he never backs up his argument.)

Now they're basically using the Bill Clinton argument ( "It depends what your definition of is is") against the definition of indoctrination. Basically they're saying the " under full control of the Reapers " is not the same as indoctrination and that TIM might be using something else to control Anderson and Shepard. They're basically saying that we jumped to conclusions when we said that " under full reaper control " in the Final Hours App automatically meant indoctrination.

Frankly, I'm sick of this argument and it's become cancerous so I would love if we could figure out a way to handle this B.S.

If I could think of any counter-argument, it would be why would the Catalyst show or even mention the Destroy option if it in turn releases him from their hold.
