Ok fine. Then how about this?

The chances of a nuclear war are astranomically low, America is currently engaged in a state of nuclear disarmament, no other nuclear nation is truly hostile to us, nuclear weapons and missile silos are nearly impossible to penetrate from the outside, NORAD is on a constant watch, we aren't even above Defcon 1 and haven't been for years.

Countries that ARE hostile to the US do not have access to missiles that aren't embarrassingly poorly designed (as in to the point they are more likely to hit themselves than us, if Korea starts gunning for Cuba maybe we should worry, but only on the off chance that they will miss)

There are tons and tons of nuclear interceptors in our air force who are superbly good at their jobs, and simply put, human beings are not wired to push that button on average. EVERYONE except the most insane individuals, whom are no where near the launch codes, would at LEAST hesitate, if not outright refuse.

Arian, I know that a nuclear war won't happen for a very long time. I'm not an idiot.

Since I constantly discuss the theory of nuclear deterrence with my brother, you really shouldn't believe I'm scared.

The human mind itself is what fascinates me most when it comes to deterrence theory. Would a person really launch a nuclear weapon knowing that the fate of humanity depends on this person's decision?

Although, if it helps you feel better Estebanus ( if you're still on) watch Wargames before you go to bed. There they get to avert the apocalypse.

Yes.

Granted, most people wouldnt, but some would.

Arian, what you just wrote is exactly that I always try to tell fatalists who believe the world will soon be sent into nuclear oblivion.

I've already watched wargames.

"in a nuclear war, there is no winner." That was a very awesome point.

Estebanus, you're aware that you're currently in a country where a sizable chunk of the population not only sincerely believes the world will end in their lifetime, but are looking forward to it, right?

I don't consider you an idiot. But one never knows another person's phobias or baggage.

And while not "scared" I would say, it DOES sound as though you are feeling guilt or blame about something, I would advise discussing these dreams with someone in the real world. You may feel better afterward.

Welp, average psychological profiles, tons of tests and at least 7 or 8 seperate events during the Cold War give a resounding "NO!"

Yes.

You know that the world has been at thebrink of nuclear war several times, right?

And almost each time, it was the decision of a single person who defied the orders of his superiors that saved humanity.

The extent of my knowledge on nuclear warfare is knowing that war never changes.

Yes, I'm aware, and I'm happy I'll be gone in about 6 days!

Right, but if you think there arent people out there who would push the button to end the world, you're far too optimistic.

Moving on from the real possibility of nuclear war, has anyone ever compiled a list of the many, many quotes about destroying them being the only option throughout all three games? I keep seeing quotes in sigs and general comments on the topic but never a list to illustrate the sheer volume of them.

Of course there are, but these people don't really have the nuclear power to be taken seriously.

Some entertain the notion, some believe it is not the end of the world, merely the Revelation and all that crap. Some are nihilists and all are wrong.

2012 is pure bull**** plain and simple. I could even give a categorized list of reasons why, but I don't care enough to.

The list of reasons why 2012 is bull**** should be simply one entry, stating that when our calendars end, we just buy new ones, and hang those up. The world doesnt end.

Why people think the Mayans are any different is beyond me.

I dont believe anyone ever has.

Someone should, though.

Calendars don't end. They simply restart, the same way our calendar does each 31st of december.

If so, the newest one made me sad.

Oh the Mayans did do SOMETHING when their calendar ended.

They made another ****ing calendar and got drunk.
