Interesting and ending relevant bits from the SDCC ME3 panel, from the live feed here:
www.newsarama.com/games/sdcc-2012-mass-effect-past-present-future.htmlMy comments are preceeded by //
Regarding EC:- "So first of all talking about the Extended cut" they showed a flow chart of the original ending, then of the extended cut. The extended cut literally quadruples the level of complication behind the scenes. //Honestly, any multiple increase in complexity of the original endings isn't saying much.

- "Myself, Casey Hudson, Mac Walters, Patrick Weeks, MIke Gamble sat in a room and hashed it out" when it was greenlit in late March.
Regarding the timeline of the EC epilogue:- "I want to walk you through what we wanted to do with the Epilogue sequence 200-300 years in the future"
- "After the detonation, what does the Galaxy look like days after. There's a sense of a tentative truce in the Synthesis version, and kind of going home."
- "Then we have months to years, and that's Survivors, so it's about your ME2 henchmen, the tertiary characters and closing those off"
- "After that we went to years to decades" //they talk about Krogan babies and the genophage
- "After that we went into centuries, two hundred three hundred years. We got to do some really cool design work on that stuff.
- "After the distant future we had the sacrifice section with anyone who's died along the way. Then we have "But for Now which is the memorial sequence."
- "They wanted to project that feeling that your story with Shepard will end into their performances. You get some really nice subtle acting in that, from James to Edi to your love interest." //Seems like "they" refers to the animators from the previous post ("This was the scene all the animators wanted to be on.")
- "The EC was a labor of love to us, we're really happy that we got to do it"
Regarding Earth MP DLC (just the parts giving us an idea about the timeline in relation to the story):
- They're showing the launch trailer for the first time now. It's all about "keeping what's left of Earth free, or die trying.
- "Today, each of you must become more than a soldier. Until the fleets of Earth return, you are the last line of defense." //I think this is a quote from the trailer?
Regarding MP DLC or just DLC in general, not sure:
- Gamble said "If you keep playing we'll just keep making it, it's that simple."
Interesting bits about the writing process:- "We have this room for the Mass Effect team that's just the writer's pit, and we would just turn around and read off parts to each other"
- Chris said "There's a part where Edi says "Liara's become a really more private person since she became Shadow Broker" and if you haven't played the SB DLC, Shepard goes, "Excuse me?!" And that was something that wouldn't have happened if we weren't all writing in one room."
- "So I was freaking out that it was terrible, and Mac came in and told me I needed to cut a whole section of dialogue. I kissed him, and turne dit into a joke." //This was after certain dialogue was recorded for EDI
Fan Q&A (apparently they were tripping and falling over each other):
- Q: Will you ever show female Turians in any of the DLC or anything?
- A: Gamble, "That's not the first time we've been asked that, and we definitely take fan feedback to heart."
- The panel said there's absolutely "no canon ending"
- Q: What's the deal with the kid and Shepard seeing him through the whole game?
- A: Hepler said it was just to tie Shepard's story personally to Earth and the feeling of not being able to save the child.
- Q: What's the motivation with the teaser survival of Shepard in one ending?
A1: Sylvia said "We were looking at all the endings, and we were wondering if they were TOO bleak. For fans who scraped every last thing off the galaxy map, we wanted to give them a little beacon of hope."
A2: "It was really hard to let go of Shepard for us too, so it was kinda just for us too."
A3: Ley said "We did make it ambiguous on purpose..." Hepler: "It could just be a last gasp before death, yeah." //because that's not bleak... right?
Their "little something to share", the attendees are told to look at a screen:
- It's a teaser for future content... and it is underwater somewhere in a vehicle that looks a lot like an Atlas.
And a comment from the Newsarama Editor who posted the live stream summary:
- That's all for this panel folks! Again, I'll be taking your questions over to BioWare RIGHT NOW and have an article up answering as many as possible soon! Thanks so much for reading! //So we may get more Q&A soon
Enjoy the speculations
