You would think that for "beings beyond organic comprehension" they would be better at not contradicting themselves.

Obviously they're above your comprehension, because you think they're contradicting themselves. They make perfect sense you just have to listen to what they're saying and let them into your hea- ARGH! NO! YOU WON'T HAVE ME! *bang*

What was that? I can't hear you. The reapers took my ears.

My GOSH, are you alright Uranium? Guess not...well it would probably be okay to harvest your ears now.

I'm okay now, Medi-Gel can heal all wounds other than being stabbed by a sword or having your face stomped on Posted Image

We know now that they knew of it. However, the reapers know what we know. And we didn't know that the Crucible needed the Citadel. Therefore, they could have had 80% of the workers indoctrinated, they still wouldn't have known the Citadel was the key.

When TIM found out from the VI, the reapers reacted. The catalyst also notices that the Crucible has evolved since they first saw it. Remember that the reapers have been doing this for some time. They know everything we know. They know what we are capable of and they attack when we reach a acertain point in development. That point is before we become powerful enough to stop them. That's what makes the Crucible so special. It's thousands or millions of ears worth of development. No cycle could afford that kind of time after the reapers attacked. All of their resources are destroyed or cut off. Without a plan for a super weapon, there's no way organics can do it.
According to the Catalyst...

  • The Crucible is "little more than a power source."
  • Therefore the Citadel must the source proper for space magic.
  • Threfore the Citadel is capable of spreading synthesis if properly juiced up.
  • The Catalyst must have been aware of this possibility, if it was attempted before.
  • "We first noted the concept for this device several cycles ago."
  • Reapers don't make a Crucible themselves.
  • "We believed the concept had been eradicated."
  • Therefore the reapers didn't want to harness the Crucible.
  • Therefore the reapers don't want synthesis.
  • "(Synthesis) is the ideal solution."
Seems legit.

You missed one.

"The design has no doubt evolved"

Which means when it was first dicovered, Destroy was the only option, naturally. So it was eradicated, so they thought.

Synthesis or control wasn't an option. It was added by other cycles without the knowledge of the reapers. Also, let's not forget that some cycles could have skipped a few Crucible attempts. We can't assume that each civilization found out about the reapers and their plans before they arrived. The current cycle would have fallen just the same if it weren't for the one thing the reapers couldn't get around.

IT question from the chat ... and answer

Hi there,

thank you for answering our questions! Here are mine:

After EC, is IT still a valid interpretation among other forms of interpretations?

I heard that certain parts of the game are not meant to be taken literal - beside the dreamsequences. Is this true?

IT concentrates on Shepard beeing indoctrinated. But are there friends, allies etc. that shouldn't be trusted anymore by the end of the game (no names, I just wanted to know if there are any)?

Hi Majed! Thanks for joining us.

Yes, the Extended Cut should not affect the overall IT as I understand it (however, there are multiple iterations of this popular theory and it's possible that some speculations have been proven untrue). I actually have a dedicated saved game in which I play keeping IT in mind and I have another game that I view as a strictly literal interpretation.

The team went to great lengths to put meaning and layers of metaphor into the game. There's a lot of cool symbolism if you take the time to look for it. Definitely intentional and we want players to decide what those meanings are for themselves. These games are all about player agency so we feel that it would be wrong to provide a "canon" path or one "true" narrative. Ultimately, the work has to stand on its own and players decide what they think is happening.

Yep! They went to great lengths. Me wonders if that includes that famous statement from the Final Hours app that the ending was choreographed to the last details.

okay we need to get into this site, and ask them questions. But I can't because well I don't think I would make much sense at all to be honest.

"1. It was important to us that our endings were open enough to allow for a range of interpretations. For me personally, I wouldn't have wanted to see a wedding scene. However, the game allows for us to walk away with our own conclusions about what happens. So in my game, there's no wedding scene and Shepard has to grapple with her decision that wiped out EDI and the Geth. In your ending, it sounds like Shepard and Tali were able to build a new life together on Rannoch. And from a technical stand-point, everything has to come to an end. The team felt that this allowed for closure while still giving various possibilities without a "canon" post-end plot."

So here's the deal. The intention of Bioware was to make an ending were we make it up in our heads. Whether it's literal, IT or other, it's up to us to fill in what we want. There's no canon ending, meaning it's up to the player to decide what happens next.

In the end, this makes everyone right to some extent. Can we please stop the feuding?
