Over night I thought of something else for the 'dream starts earlier' or 'warped perception' ideas, y'know about London looking like Vancouver crossed with Palavan's moon. The red phone boxes. Yes really. Today there are hardly any of those in London, the ones that are there are preserved because tourists expect to see them, yet not one but several survive the reaper invasion. When I saw them the first time I half expected to see a scots guard and a couple of beefeaters among Anderson's soldiers, thinking Bioware had made the same assumptions as tourists. But last night I thought 'has Shepard ever been to London before?'. Probably not, and they're seeing the phone boxes because they expect to see them in London.

Reposting this now some different people are on. (No, it's not supposed to inspire Doctor Who talk.)

Someone brought this up before actually. The "limited palatte" idea. It could also be that Bioware has the same expectation and threw them in because people expected to see them.

The game keeps trying to force the fact that it's London on us. Big ben, phone booths, Anderson stating that it was London. I think we got the point the first time when we were told to strike at London. Why the constant repetition then? It doesn't make sense, we would already assume it was London without the added phone booths. It almost seems as if the reapers have a pre conceived notion about human civilization so they put it in the hallucination because they think we'd expect it to be there.

Great point! I also noticed how I was spoonfed that it was London. I get how maybe Bioware wanted to not make the game more international, as in: New York is not the only place we see destroyed or get to fight as the final mission. It's very international, also the Earth on background of ME3 cover is such that Italy is visible, not North America. So it could be to adress the importance of the whole Earth, not just the USA.

But Vancouver didn't get adressed as often as London, and I still got it that that was Vancouver. Somehow London is as important as Coats, since we see both in the main trailer. Funnily, Shepard just had a small cameo in that trailer; one would rather expect that reversed: Shepard as that brave soldier who kept fighting till the bloody end. But no, Shep has to flee and watch until he can do something about it.

London is calling...

To be honest, we're talking about a canadian developer with an american publisher creating London in a game that's going to be sold to people who also play Gears of War...

I'm halfway surprised they didn't have a character called "Constable Blimeychips".

How did you know my nickname for Coates? Witch!

Don't play GOW, been to London. You were saying? :P

I'm surprised Parliament was still intact after all the time that passed. Seriously the first trailer had a Reaper shooting in close proximity. So you'd expect it to be heavily damaged by the end of the game at least.

In real life, if the teams consist of literally the smartest scientists and engineers of the galaxy, then surely someone would've made that calculations, but eventually some superior would've also Posted Image that.

The file for that video clip is literally named ShepAlive. I dont think they'd name it that if Shep is dead.

- Harbinger doesn't say anything

And? He didnt say anything pre-EC either. Something remaining consistent in no way affects IT.

- No canon

The point is, at that point, he isn't dead.

What is actually being said here is that a lot of ITers said that Harbinger said "Serve Us", which turned out (as I have said all along) not to be the case.

The reapers have a great respect for buildings of great national significance.

Also, maybe Bioware didn't want too copy Roland Emmerich too much.

To borrow your point from yesterday about why go to the effort of tricking the player with the kid being fake, why trick the player by insinuating Shep lives if she doesnt?

Isn't IT clearly debunked considering that they didn't wish to come into ways of how the ending is interpretaded (Or at least so they say), yet show no signs of any type of Indoctrination in the extended cut.

The Indoctrination Theory relies on more things to come from what has been seen, yet they've explicity said that Extended Cut marks the end of Shepards journey, they would be contradicting themselves if they continued to add more to the ending, etc;

I feel Indoctrination Theory is dead can be, there's nothing more to it.

They're already planning to continue to add to the ending, extended cut included some dialogue from leviathan.

Makes me wonder, what do you think Leviathan would have done or been like WITHOUT the EC?

I think the last scene really is for the player to decide, if they think a dead Shep is suitable then that's their choice, I think BW made it ambiguous like that

when it comes right down to it, what ticks me off most about the ending is how it just threw everything it built me up for out the window at the last minute. that last scene with tali when she's getting evac'd is so ****ed up because shep's about to take a robotic reaper **** up the ass and there's nothing he can do about it. I deserve better than that. they deserve better than that.

And then you break free of indoctrination and emerge blinking from the rubble to kick Harbinger's ass :D

Comrade, I get that you're mad.

But brush that damn chip off your shoulder.

No he doesn't. Chris Priestly confirmed it. He said he extra checked in with the sound team, and they said that it was just a coincidental sound.

These were the themes of the quotes shown to me - Is there any way that we can argue against these points?

I want to build constructive arguments but all I ever come out with is "OH MY GOD YOU'RE JUST SO WRONG!" when confronted with these...

I find it weird to agree with a literalist, but you're right on this point, SubAstris.

Because reapers make big honking noises for no reason, right?

It doesn't need to have been a structured sentence, line or even word. But Harbinger made noises, several, when it saw Shepard and deliberately swept the beam to... not kill Shepard apparently. That's one of the reasons I never discussed what Harbinger 'said', because it wasn't important. Unless reapers make noises for no reason (bad diet?), Harbinger communicated something during that scene, and that's important.

Interestingly, Chris said that Harbinger didn't say anything at that point. Me wonders when he said/says/will say something...
