The "fade to white" transition is most common in the dreams, entering the Geth Consensus, getting hit by harby's laser, and several other events that happen during the ending.

Flashes to white aren't exclusive in Control.

It's also in synthesis...

At the end, everytime I'm doing the run towards the beam, I make sure to stop and unload all my remaining ammo from all the weapons I'm carrying right at Harbinger. Feels good to actually be able to shoot at Harbinger.

 I KNEW IT !!!  The whole game ended when Shepard hit his head in Vancouver HQ or even in Arrival or on Eden Prime in ME1.

Sitting there shooting Harbinger is what helped me notice how accurate his aim actually is. You dont really notice it when you're running towards the beam, but if you just stop and watch, you'll see an endless amount of soldiers running towards the beam and being completely vaporized by pinpoint laser blasts from Harbinger.

No laser starting in front of them and slowly inching closer, no surviving with their armor burned up, just straight up vaporized.

I mean, even if you dont believe in IT, its pretty obvious Harby was intentionally trying not to kill Shepard.

Since I was recently watching the Legend of Korra, I shall paraphrase Amon, the main bad guy, who is played by Grunt's VA, as to why Harby doesnt kill Shepard:

The beginning at least sounds like when one of the turian pilots gets shot down by the destroyer on Tuchanka. I believe he even says something about losing control there.

When the choice is destroy there is no fade to white.
