Reapers are not shining silver (more of a moderately reflective purple). IMO, it's describing a classic UFO, insinuating that A) Bioware is mixing real world myth with their story, and B) that the Protheans are the aliens of the interventionary evolution theory of how humans came to be.

Not all.
[1] [2] [3]

The materials Reapers use seem create smaller shiny hotspots, so anything in the "wrong" angle looks darker with some very bright highlights for the "right" angles.

Thanks for finding better images than I did. The third one especially iterates on my point. When looking at lighting, there are three main points (when considering specular materials/objects): The highlight, main light, and shadow. The highlight shows the closest form to the color of the light source, in this case white. The main light is the part that shows the specular color of the material the most, in other words, the color the object reflects when hit by light, but is not overpowered by it. It is clearest in 3, and it can be seen that it is a purplish color. The shadow shows a darker version of the diffuse without specularity unless indirect bounce lighting is involved.

TLDR version: Image three shows that the specular color is a purplish color when comparing the highlight and main light sections of the Reaper.

Key point being that the proto-human was "chipped" between the red light and the wake up/vessel flee/shake spear.

There is no information given if the subject was engulfed in a red light before, but the red light at the end definitely ended its life as the vision ends (with blackness).

@maximized: That's a cinematic made by an outside studio (Blur), so it can't exactly count, for instance most charcters only vaguely resemble their in-game counterparts. Vancouver, in game footage, full daylight, purple Destroyers (what were they called again?) and Reapers as well (I think). Every in-game view of a reaper has a slight purple tinge to the metal, even in the brighter scenes. I wonder if the image thing will work.

I would still call it silver, sure it has a slight purple tone, but it's still silver. And if the light on that recording hit it it was shiny silver.

Little specimen from here and there couldn't hurt. Reapers have noble goals as Catalyst says. What's with few insignificant organic life forms going extinct as long as you are able to continue your gloooorious cycle?

Okay guys on Augest 15th in Germany,

"We arrive in Cologne on the 15th, so won't be there earlier. Sorry".

This is from Chris priestly, about "So who's attending Gamescom this summer? Want to come to a party?"

So is anyone going, because I can't.

First encounter:

Slowly your senses return as you wake from a deep sleep. You are alone in the forest, though you are not far from the caves you share with the others in your tribe. There is a pain and a small lump in the back of your skull, as if a chip of flint has been forced under the surface of the skin.

Second encounter: including part of the chat with your squad...

The air grows colder, winter falls. You must range farther for food, clutching the furs tight against you to ward off the chill. It is on one of these long hunts that the strange bird returns. You hear it before you see it, its call a deafening roar as it descends from above, swooping down on you. A single great eye opens on the underbelly, a glowing red orb. You try to run, but a finger of red light extends from the eye and engulfs you, and all goes black again.

You wake an instant later to find yourself on Eletania lying on your back, the Prothean artifact looming above you undamaged and your companions standing over you. They help you to your feet, puzzled. "There was a flash of light and you just sort of toppled over," one explains.

There is no way of knowing the fate of that human.

Oculus are first encountered when... we meet the Collectors; who used to be Protheans.

Either the orb and fingers of red light took a reading from the chip in the poor guys head, or it fried him.

Still does not explain how the data device ended up in the hands of an Asari, unless they too were messing with our past... I've written an unpopular theory about how it may have come about, but I'm not going to get into it.

It's impossible to say exactly what happened beyond what was written for the player. It's all just more material to speculate about.

I'm pretty sure you realized by now, but I didn't ignore your post. I just posted this before I could read your more recent post. I take a long time to type because I often review what I wrote before I post.

I was talking about the bold. I somehow completely missed the italics in every playthrough.

While at first it seems to fly in the face of harvesting advanced civilizations while leaving primitive untouched, it could work via active Protheans on Earth, drawing the attention of the Reapers, and then every organic in possession of technology was destroyed, including the chipped proto-humans.

They could have, but why would they waste their time? They only target major population centers.

They arent going to level the freakin desert.

"Your civilization is based on the technology of the mass relays. Our
technology. By using it, your civilization develops along the paths we
desire." Sovereign, Virmire. 2183

The Reapers have no problems repurposing technology given everything we have is based on what they created.
