Another line from Ashley in the Udina conflict:
Shep: "I'm on your side, but I need you to believe in me. Like you used to."
Ashley: "Maybe it's not time to give up on you yet."
Sounds much like there were suggestions in play, also the wording is quite weird... "not time [...] yet."

What...I don't even...
I must've missed that one. But this part suggests a bunch of possibilities...more than I'm willing to speculate out loud.

EDIT: Notice the wording:
It's not "I need you to believe me", it's "I need you to believe IN me". TIM says hello.

In Priestly's " Do you believe in IT" poll?

Damn.

Altho ~650 people probably aren't enough to decide the faith of the ending, still cool.

I never actually visited those forums before that poll, but from what I've gathered from what has been said in this thread, they are generally not very accepting of IT, so the fact that IT is winning over there is apparently surprising

Indeed. Saying she hopes Shepard dies to the reapers is over-the-top, though. She'd doom the entire galaxy just to satisfy her vindictiveness?

I don't know, being shot to the gut by your ex-boss who you currently out-rank while trying to do your duty might make you say things you don't really mean.

Gut wounds are a *****.

But seriously. Shilelds down when in open conflict? Rookey mistake.

Ash doesnt outrank Shep, she's the same rank.

Always annoyed me that Ash and Kaidan got multiple promotions but Shep never got a single one.

No, Shep still outranks Ashley, Shep is Commander, Ash only Lieutenant-Commander.

Except, according to the codex, just 'Commander' isnt a rank

In the military, sometimes full rank is dropped during more casual conversation. Example, When Lt Col. Farrel was my CO, we sometimes just referred to him as 'Colonel Farrel".

Even if Shepard is Lt Commander, he's N7. Special Forces, maximum grade. Even a N1 is respected by everyone. If that's not enough, he's the first human Spector, defender of the Citadel, destroyer of the Collectors... I don't think he's worried about ranks... and I don't think anyone else is worried about Shepard being less rank than they.

Is Garrus' rank ever really explained, other than 'leader of anti-Reaper task force'?

Because like Shep said, even generals were saluting him.

I just don't let myself get bothered by it anymore. Seeing as Shep was a 29 year old LtCmdr in ME1, Ashley & Kaidan's rapid promotions to the same rank and beyond in the span of two years just don't phase me as much.

Also, I like building pyramids.

I still find it funny that my Shepard isnt even the highest ranking Shepard in the navy. Her mom outranks her.

Also, I dont like building pyramids.

I was on the fence. I like the idea of IT. There are some good points to IT like the gun change and the husk eyes. But I find there is just as much wrong with it.

I took a look at the possibility of Shepard not bieng on the Citadel but on a component of the crucible that is attached to the Citadel. This would explain why there are human and geth peices on the platform. I believe this to be the case and therefore invalidates IT for me.

There'sdefinetly some points against this theory and I acknowledge the possibility of it being wrong. I believe this is the way we should all approch or present theories.

I find that the base of the decision chamber is shaped similarly to the shape of the peice that rides on the end of prongs that are above Shepard's head. Not only that but the structure above to control panel allows the decision chamber to fit right on top of it.

On top of that, if you think about the design of the crucible and the citadel, it makes sense to me that the energy flows from the crucible, back down to the control panel room, into the panels and out to the rest of the citadel.

OK.

So riddle me this:

My game ends with Shepard taking a breath in a pile of rubble.

How in the name of serenading Hanars is that possible if my Shepard was physically present in the Citadel/Crucible/in general not on planet Earth when he decided to destroy the Geth + Crucible + Mass Relays + all Reaper tech ever?

People who write sci-fi for a living cannot fail physics that badly.

Seriously. Just explain me this. How did he make it back Earthside? How isn't he squished by the rubble from the Citadel/Crucible?

EDIT Whoa what killed that formatting?

Kaidan, being a Major, also salutes Shepard and uses "yes sir" very often. I really think Shepard's rank is higher than major. Maybe because of being part of the Special Forces or something like that. I only saw him saluting Admirals.

Epyon's belief has always been that Shepard was still on the Citadel, not on Earth, in the breath scene.

I figure he now thinks Shep is on the Crucible in that scene, but still, not on Earth.

It's 'Badass mother-bleep-er', the highest military honour the heirarchy can bestow.

Seriously though, I think he just said it was a special position instead of a proper military ranking.

That's impossible. The rubble is clearly concrete. There's no concrete in space. I think we can at least confirm that for sure.

That makes even less sense because the crucible blows up entirely, the Citadel is atleast intact.

I kinda hope not, to be honest.

I always liked the Reapers when they were just an unstoppable force that we could not possibly comprehend.

Learning more about them would take away from that.

What's Shepard breathing then? After that explosion, are we supposed to believe any form of life suport stayed functional aboard the Citadel/Crucible (or that the Crucible had one at all)? That there were no tears to its hull? And where did all the concrete come from?

Implied by Shepard, not by Garrus, if I remember correctly.

Garrus' dad surely outranks him, and he's still alive.

Speaking of Garrus' family, did they ever mention his mom?

I remember the Shadow Broker files in ME2 had a conversation between him and his sister talking about medical treatments for her.

Did they ever say if she died or not? Or is it just assumed that she did?

Even without the luxery of having a scientific consultant (couldn't find anything about whether the ME team has one) it should be clear that a chance for surviving this is non-existent.

Also: the writers had to introduce the Lazarus project to justify Shepard being 'revived' after reentry+planetary impact IN a somewhat covering suit. According to the literal interpretation, Shepard was basically in his undershirt.
