You know what, I just remembered something.

Legion recovered the piece of your armor he wears from the Normandy wreckage.

Yknow, the wreckage on the planet.

Unless you're going to grasp at straws and be like 'Nah man, that was Shepard's formal armor, she only wore that for special occasions, she was wearing different armor at the time of the crash,' I believe I have won this argument.

I absolutely LOVE this scene. This is the moment Legion became my favorite character in ME2.

The question is. Why is the armor still ripped up? It does very little to close the gapping hole in legion's chest. I never bought his story, I was hoping that ME3 would clarify this. He was obviously holding information when he said no data available.

Hmm, I can think of one thing that would either completely confirm or debunk my hypothesis that the armor Legion recovered from Alchera was in fact the same armor Shepard was wearing during the crash.

Liara had the armor Shep was wearing when she recovered her body in a glass case in her apartment on Illium.

If anyone has a ME2 save close to that point, load it up, and get us a screenshot of the armor from Liara's apartment. See if it is missing the chunk Legion is wearing

If I remember correctly the piece she has is the back...Where the piece that Legion has is chest/shoulder...

And maybe the protheans on Mars were tasked with building and conducting tests with their Crucible. Instead of a moon or proto-planet as Epyon said, maybe it was actually the prothean Crucible

If this is true...it might explain how Cerberus has a leg up on the Alliance, since they discovered the now defunct weapon.

Encyclopedia Britannica

terminal velocity

steady speed achieved by an object freely falling through a gas or liquid. A typical terminal velocity for a parachutist who delays opening the chute is about 150 miles (240 kilometres) per hour. Raindrops fall at a much lower terminal velocity, and a mist of tiny oil droplets settles at an exceedingly small terminal velocity. An object dropped from rest will increase its speed until it reaches terminal velocity; an object forced to move faster than its terminal velocity will, upon release, slow down to this constant velocity.

So, it's the maximum velocity achieved by the pull of gravity and buffered by atmospheric friction, amirite?

Oooh, half the words are missing from your post, but then if I highlight it, they appear!

Its like a magic trick! :wizard:

Edit: Aww, you fixed it.

And just like that, the magic is gone. [/EDI]

Found it but can't screen shot it. it's in this video. It looks like the center chest plate is mostly in tact, just missing the arms. Legion used a goo portion of that chest plate.

read the codex i posted. The round was shot 37 million years ago. the crucible has been added to by many races over many cycles. It seems plausible that it could be this mass accelerator weapon. The reapers that exist now may not have existed then because they lose some in every cycle. So its existence could have been forgotten by the Reapers, lost, and rediscovered by organics.

Just put it like this...Shepard survived re-entry because on the way down he drank the vial of Chuck Norris's tears that he had been saving for a very special occasion...so unless he has another vial that he hid for all these years, surviving re-entry again is not likely...

Well, yeah, but my original question was whether or not Shepard's speed was high enough to hit Alchera's atmosthere with enough force for Shepard's body to actually enter the atmosphere and not just enter Alchera's gavitation pull and hang out in the outher atmosphere like the Bungie poster claimed it would.

No, Legion only seemed to really use the top right part of the chestplate, and the right shoulder part of the armor.

Whoops thought you meant mars for some reason. Still though I'm sure those plans would not have passed down after that since the reapers clearly won.

Also, although the reapers may not last every cycle, they're collective knowledege does.

Again, the mass effect drive blowing up would have created a wave of force strong enough to make Shepard achieve terminal velocity. IMO of course. Any physics majors wanna weigh in?

Plans could have been lost and then found a cycle or two later. The Reapers don't scour everything clean or there would be nothing left of the Prothean civilization.

I always found it odd that in ME2 TIM was all "We've been able to track down what they were firing at when they created the Great Rift" but he never says anything about the weapon they were using.

Logically he should be able to track that down too, right?

Maybe he tracked that too, and it led him to the Citadel?

Would explain his motives for the coup.

Udina's motives are explained, but never TIM's.

I'm not sure but TIM tells Shepard in ME2 about the weapon before or after the mission.

True. But then the reapers have to see something as valuable before the take or destroy it. That and protheans were really good at hiding things, I mean we found one 50K years after.

Which fits with my idea of the protheans at Mars building and testing their own Crucible there and causing the gash.

Would also explain why the archives there even had the Crucible blueprints in the first place.

Well this dampens it a bit. further down the page:

" It is revealed by the Illusive Man that an Alliance Survey Team discovered that the Great Rift Valley was caused by a strike from a mass accelerator round. The original target of that round was the Derelict Reaper, which was hit and disabled 37 million years ago. No trace remains of the race that fired the round. However, he also indicates that both the weapon and the target have been located, mentioning in passing that the weapon was defunct. "

So it was a weapon used against the Reapers 37 million years ago. TIM says it is defunct, but it's not like they couldn't have worked on it. Seems like a strange thing to drop since it would be an effective weapon.

I am pretty sure that TIM does say that they found both the weapon (now defunct) and the target (a derelict reaper)...something about the rift allowed them to calculate the trajectory of the shot that lead to both...it happens when he is first explaining that you need to go there to get the IFF.
