Okay, I've asked this twice and gotten no answer... Actually both those threads closed... (ignoring the obvious)

Do you take the catalyst seriously (lol) when he tells Shepard that he is the first organic to reach the catalyst? And If that is a lie, it means that the cycle of extinction has been a cycle of people choosing control.

Edit: I said Shepard was the first synthetic to reach the catalyst, while that was a typo he's half-ish synthetic...

Doesn't spacekid say Shep's the first organic, not synthetic? I'm not trying to be nitpicky, I just don't understand your question! Sorry!

I've read many posts that question almost everything the catalyst says in the ending sequence except when he says that Shepard is the first organic to make it there. What if he isn't the first?

Since the crucible was not only finally built sucessfully and actually docked, why should we not believe him?

Though, I believe that the whole conversation was only there to lure Shepard into the Indoctrination trap, let's assume that not:

Assume Shepard was not the first, then it makes sense to also assume that the others got the same choices and eventually took one. Since in all endings, either the relays or the Citadel suffer, then the Reapers must somehow rebuild either of those for the next cycle. Then yes, there could've been some before him, if those chose Control or Synthesis.

If however it is all only in Shepard's head, then there is no reason to assume that what the 'Catalyst' is saying is legit.

Why does that have to be be truth either? And less speculatively, when he meets the catalyst he isn't in he catalyst, he's just somewhere on the citadel.

Don't worry, there's only one person here who thinks he's on the crucible and not the citadel, we keep him around cause he's adorable.

Organics have been all over the Citadel so he was probably lying about that just like he was lying about most everything else he says.

Just thought I'd put this out there, probably already been noted. I wonder if the names of the nightclubs in the Mass Effect series have anything significant plot-wise to them. To me at least, the naming pattern seems "odd".

ME:
Flux---> The galaxy is in a 'state of flux' (def: "a state of uncertainty about what should be done, usually following some important event, preceding the establishment of a new direction of action")

ME2:
Afterlife--->Shepard died and was reborn in the beginning
Dark Star--->Dark Matter plot
Eternity--->Probably just a reference to "Embracing Eternity"

ME3:
Purgatory--->Coupled with the "Lost" style Normandy scene, also a good place for Aria to be "stuck" while trying to get back to Afterlife. Could also apply to the state Shepard is in at the end.

I'm just picking at things, maybe it means something and maybe it doesn't. Regardless it seems like a naming pattern to me. While it may or may not have anything directly to do with IT, it seems like Bioware's usual meticulous attention to detail... but somehow a lot of IT clues are just "lazy mistakes" or "meaningless".

Even if Epyon is right about Shep being on the Crucible (which I dont believe for a second, mainly because to me its pointless to argue if she's on the Citadel or the Crucible, since I personally believe she's lying in the rubble in London), I highly doubt she's the first person to ever stand on that part of the Crucible, since it was built by people, and didnt just magically form out of the ether one day.

And even if Shep is on the Crucible, and is the first person ever in all the cycles to stand on the Crucible, its not really that impressive a feat to be standing there.

It'd be like building a new house, and then standing on the roof, and saying you're the first person in the history of the universe to ever stand on that roof. Its not exactly impressive, since before then, the roof never even existed, so no one else had ever even tried to stand on it.

I agree, I think that whole phrase was pandering to you to try and get you to trust him like he's god or something.... Simply standing there shouldn't "prove" anything... especially since the kid brought you up there to begin with.

I'm not sure if I'm making complete sense of the conversation going on here, but the catalyst saying "here" wasn't meant to be taken as a literal "here" in terms of the Citadel; it's the figurative "here", as in "no organic has gotten to the point where we've needed to reevaluate our decision".

Also, Shepard's still partly organic, no matter how you slice it, and s/he fights for the organic's agenda.  Therefore: organic.

I think the catalyst's telling some truths.  Every word out of its lips isn't a lie.

Well, sure, you've gotta slip in some truths to add verisimilitude to your lies.

"The fact that you are standing here, the first organic ever, proves it."

That's the thing though, most people don't take that part as figurative. But really, I think the entire thing ias figurative.

PS. In this video (same one where catalyst says "most of the technology you rely on") he says "The crucible changed me, created new possibilities, but I can't make them happen, and I won't." He doesn't always say "and I won't" does he?

Artistic integrity. A label created by BioWare to give voice to their mistakes. In the end, what they choose to call it is irrelevant. It simply is.

Thats... interesting. I've never heard him say that. As the Catalyst, isnt using the Crucible impossible without him?

If he says he's not going to actually make your choice happen, then it isnt going to happen.

Looking at that quote in the context of IT, its basically the Catalyst telling you your choice wont actually affect the real world.

Looking at it in the context of the literal endings, it makes no sense, because he seemingly does  make your choice happen.

I also like how he reminds you that destroy is indeed what you came here to do, since so many people seem to have forgotten that in the final minutes.

Even the Catalyst  knows you came here to destroy the Reapers, people!

That's the thing for me and it's why I think the ending failed, pretty much the entire ending doesn't make sense unless you plug in indoctrination. Some people just refuse to believe that a video game would lie on purpose, so they just attribute it to "bad writing"

Cool tidbit, maybe not relevant, been looking through the sound files and I think the sound of the crucible exploding is one of the Cain sounds + effects.
