Should be noted that there is no reason not to call Mr. Sparkle 'catalyst' in the game files, unless he was designed while Javik was still the catalyst, and why would that be?

Similarly, the crucible is referred to only as "The Device" in the game files, never as the crucible. (or at least in the ending scenes, didn't check other scenes, but does it ever appear in model form before that?)

Because if they did that, the Council would just close up the Citadel, and the attack would fail. They needed a man on the inside to make sure the Citadel was open so that Sovereign could get in, and then close to protect him.

Saren was a Spectre before being exposed by Shepard. Instead of searching the whole Galaxy he could just walk in and sabotage the Citadel from the inside. The only explanation I can see is that his indoctrination progressed through the whole first game and Saren was never fully committed to the Reapers' cause.

Sovereign still wanted to find the Conduit so he could shut it down. He probably felt his best chance of doing that was to do it before wiping out the organics from that cycle.

After ME3 - maybe Saren didn't have a clue that all he'd had to do is catch a lift to the bottom most point of the Citadel and push a console button to open the arms.

P.S. I miss Saren - he was a 100000x better boss figure then the crap we got in ME3.

Yes, but Saren was a more or less traditional bad guy. The "bad guy" (if you can call it that) of me3 is indoctrination. To quote Ashley: "How do you fight something that can worm it's way inside your head?"

That's not true. Neither Saren nor TIM are bad. They are under Reaper influence and cannot be held responsible for their actions. This is the tragedy of Mass Effect.

I should have used the word "antagonist", then, but you know what I meant...

Saren was a tremendous ***hole long before finding Sovereign, but was definitely more a racist anti-hero than a villain.

Damn wireless keyboards. Posted Image The only evil in Mass Effect is the Reapers' behavior.

Yeah, but I've given up trying to convince people of that. They just need to read the first novel to get it.

@MegumiAzusa: Why do you think Liara might be indoctrinated? Is it because of her name (Liar-a)?

Because of her reactions that are quite comparable with the reactions of the VSs and James.
In more detail: http://social.biowar...32/260#12232510

I feel that is so far fetched. Any sentence would and could be tied to any of the explanation of the Indoctrination thingiemajig then.

You'd need some creative responses and originality. So there's bound to be some corresponding ties to what the explanation of Indoctrination process is.

I call a fluke on it.

There was still good in him. Like in Lord Vader. He just was too late to realize that humans weren't bad. Persuading him to commit suicide and he thanking Shepard - that points to the fact that he didn't felt right with what he had done.

I've read Revelation but it was very long ago.

Or Evolution.

I find TIM to be a much more sophisticated antagonist. In ME3 his indoctrination is nowhere directly noticable. It's all much more ambiguous. That way it fits within a possible indoctrination theme.

You'd think people would get that just from what Anderson told you about him. I never liked the guy based on that alone.

Saren wasn't evil, but he was swayed by idealism. That's what makes him such a great and enigmatic villain. Point-blank evil enemies, who don't have "noble" intentions, are oftentimes the least-interesting.

He believed he was doing the right thing. Even if it was bad, that doesn't make him an evil person. Rather a tragic one. I hope that makes sense to you. Posted Image

Killing a bunch of innocent people just to sabotage the first human Specter candidate makes him a total d*** from beginning to end. imho. Which, of coarse, makes him a very interesting character.

And yet indoctrination made him shoot one of his own kind (Nihlus) in the back....

In the Marauder Shields comic, Nihlus becomes Marauder Shields. Not like that's canon or anything, I just like that comic.
