Who cares about people with no internet, not to sound like an A hole but if you're a gamer and you have no internet, I'm sure you already know what you're missing. Sorry, but in this day and age where rpgs are getting constant updates, a modern gamer has an internet connection. Most people I know have had internet for over a decade....
True, but still, if IT is real (assuming that it wouldn't lead into ME4 anyway), then offline players who bought the game would be screwed over. I mean, you can't just tell your players that the game is playable offline and then have the real ending be available ONLY online.
I like to think the majority of gamers have internet access but I really don't know enough to say that. If IT is true and the rest of the game is released via free DLC, Bioware will probably (hopefully) release a DLC disk of some sort so those players can get to it.
It's an innovative idea, and the majority do, yes. But it's also dismissing a healthy number of traditional console gamers who simply keep their systems offline---and, in many situations, might not have done the research into the extended cut.
Then again, I imagine that there's a pretty positive correlation between the number of people who care about the Extended Cut situation and those who have the internet.
Dunno. Just think it might set a dangerous precedent. I'm excited for it, of course, but I don't like the implications.
I still remain of the opinion that they never meant to make the EC. Do you know what I DO see happening after the EC is released? (Basically making indoctrination a bit more clear, perhaps we pan down to Shepard lying in the rubble, his eyes snap open, revealing indoctrinated orbs as a way of making it obvious.)
Two words.
Expansion. Pack. More money for them, more gameplay for us, and everyone, even console players without a internet connection can pick it up. Do like Dragon Age Awakening did, if Shepard died you can continue for the expansion pack with a new character, perhaps setting up for ME4. If not, wrap up Shepard's story in this expansion and still get hints for ME4.

Easily done actually.Expansion pack installs to console harddrive, includes a copy of the EC, load it up play the EC, get taken to the expansion. Create character or simply import your Shepard. Then it probably goes something like;
HACKETT:"Colonel. Good to meet you."
NEW CHARACTER: Admiral Hackett.
HACKETT: Welcome to the Normandy Colonel, this will be your assignment, since Commander Shepard's death the crew has been extremely demoralized and she finds herself without a commanding officer. You managed to acquit yourself quite well during the Seige. Alliance Command has chosen you to take the Normandy and her crew to [insert location here].
NEW CHARACTER: Understood sir.
JOKER: So...
NEW CHARACTER: So.... what? Speak up soldier.
JOKER: So, is command going to wait for Shepard's corpse to get cold before they assign us a new commanding officer, or did they grow a heart?
NEW CHARACTER[sarcasm]: Well, permission to speak frankly granted flight lieutenant.
JOKER: Ma'am/Sir with all due respect, you are not Commander Shepard. And no one is going to replace him.
[Paragon] NEW CHARACTER: No Mr. Moreau, I'm not. and neither am I trying to be, but if you give me a chance, then I might surprise you.
[Renegade] NEW CHARACTER: I am not Commander Shepard, flight LIEUTENANT. Neither am I trying to be, but either way I am your new commanding officer, and as such, I demand the respect I am due. Understood?
JOKER: Understood.
JOKER[whispered]: Hardass.
Either that or;
HACKETT: Commander Shepard, good to see you up and about.
SHEPARD: Thank you sir.
HACKETT: You've already been briefed on the mission we need you to deal with, Mr.Moreau will take you to the co-ordinates indicated. Hackett out.
JOKER: Commander, good to have you back.
SHEPARD: Good to be back Joker.

I agree. Plus, having to pay for the ending to ME3 in an expansion pack seems like a really bad idea to me. A lot of people already don't like the idea of IT being true. If they make players pay for the true ending, no matter how awesome it is, its going to hurt their sales.

He has a rank Hackett!
So, would the new character basically be like the Orlesian Warden Commander in DA:O Awakening if your warden made the ultimate sacrifice?

But I do like the mentioning of the 'belly of the beast'- seems kind of appropriate considering what Shepard is going through.

I gotta admit actually, I'm surprised, thus far this is the only one I have written where people had NO nitpick at all.

I know I'm late, but, this whole conversation feeds into the larger narrative about progressive marketing strategies. Nickel and dimeing people. Setting conditions so that you have to have X to get Y. And now that you have X, might as well get Z,Q, and T while your at it. Like having to get online and play MP to get the best possible ending in SP. I'm not saying it's not an effective strategy, I'm just saying that, imho, it's smarmy, slimy, scummy. Like drug dealer on the corner scummy. Make a complete product and sell it. If people want more they will find a way to get it. But one should not be dependent on the other. And imo thats the difference between a smaller customer focused company and a large profit focused one.BlackswordSteve wrote...

Actually it's a writer's term, it's basically referring to the part in the story in which it seems there is no hope for the hero. Read Campbell's Hero With a Thousand Faces and you'll see what I mean.
