What I never got about that fight is why a gunship entering the equation meant Kai Leng had the upper hand.

Remember on Garrus and Samara's recruitment missions, and Kasumi's loyalty mission?

Remember how the appearance of a gunship meant you immediately failed the missio- ohwaitaminute! You just shot the damned things down!

It was ostensibly just to add forced difficulty into the battle against an otherwise pathetic nemesis (inb4 he's a phantom, not a nemesis <_<). Even after reading Retribution, I still dont have much love for his character as an antagonist.

The fight on Thessia was definitely harder on insanity than the one in TIM's HQ.

Probably because somehow bright lights have gained the ability to stun Shepard (Seriously, the hell was up with that?)

The fight at TIM's HQ was fun because Kai Leng was all 'You're slower than I expected!' and Shep is all 'I'm only slow because I'm not running!' and I was all 'You guys, Shepard is a vanguard, and is literally speeding around the room like a biotic missile, how fast do you want her to move?'

Yes...so much this.

Nice. I'd have a difficult time believing that it means anything, but anything is possible!

Well, considering how many "sound eastereggs" there are i'm assuming they used it at least once and got a chuckle out of it.

edit: the sound of it has a weird feel to it www.youtube.com/watch

as the person below me pointed out, it does sound kinda like the thing we hear after being shot by harbinger, it also reminds me of the sound one can hear in the decision chamber.

Yeah, we hear something similar after getting shot by Harbinger. Nice find!

No "leaving earth?" Or “an end once and for all"?

Its a five way tie for me. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie]

"Thessia is Lost" and "I'm Proud of You". I also really like the "Mars" track, though I doubt most would put that in their top.

So it's a 9-way tie for me. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

Mars was my first favourite track! Those synths are so intense!

The track they have as an example on the wikipedia page is FREAKY.

"The scale as described, with discrete steps between each tone, is known as the discrete Shepard scale. The illusion is more convincing if there is a short time between successive notes (staccato or marcato instead of legato or portamento)."

Indoctrination? The sour yellow note? :alien:

The most significant "sound easter egg" (if you can call it that... it does have psychological impact after all), IMO, is the Vigil theme being hidden within the main menu screen and war room. A lot of work for such a subtle thing that you can barely notice on a conscious level!

And I thought a 3-way tie was pushing it. Fine! If you guys get so many, I'm adding Reaper Chase, and Stand Strong, Stand Together to my list.

The disappearing starchild in synthesis could very easily be a glitch, there are several such ones at that point, like the one that causes him to vanish if you reload. And in the high res of control the kid still looked invisible to me.

Talking about sound, another obvious point, but Leaving Earth and An End Once and For All are extremely similar, both show up when the Reapers do, but in the first one the soft piano is overshadowed or replaced by Reaper growls, while An End has none of that. Not sure if it's too relevant considering an End stays the same in the Red ending but still.

And of course the point brought up before, that "An End Once and For All" ends on...well, a musical cliffhanger. No resolution.

I think in all, Bioware just had great taste in picking composers for the ME trilogy. I've loved Jack Wall's work since Myst 3, and the ME3 soundtrack is great too, despite having a different composer.

It's possible that they went with a different composer in ME3 because they needed one more schooled in the psychological effects of music, and not just one that writes good music.

Yeah, I am quite sure that ending a song on that particular note is a huge musical no-no. Probably intentional.

That's exactly the examples i was talking about, and the lead sound designer stated they have hidden "a lot more of those".

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but the music in the decision room gives me headaches after a while, and so does this youtube video. (Mind you, this is not a general reaction i have to music, it's just for this weird sound. My brain apparently cannot process it properly or something.)

Edit: faszinating, Nintendo used this effect in the "endless staircase" in Mario 64 www.youtube.com/watch

Yeah, that last part was mentioned. But I want to add something to that:
The three flashback high pitch notes: they fit within the An End track (consonace wise), but they are not in the track. Just seperate sound files "Wwise_End002_Streaming.1x.ogg" where x=3,4,5. Just there...randomly...much like Liara's gift.
They could've added those to the track, much like the Reaper growl in Leaving Earth. But no, not here...for some reason.

I think half the issue for Shep and co in that scene was how skillfully that gunship was being used.

Are you seriously defending the "invincible gunship"?  And suggesting at the same time, that we have never face a pilot that had the same "skill" as the pilot in that sequence?  You are joking, right?  Please tell me you are joking.

Would it make you feel better if that battle with Leng could be won? I'm not really trying to defend anything so I don't know why you're getting excited.

Hmmm a game like this you can't always win, and that's why I like Priority Thessia because not matter what happens you always lose.

What the ****. Seriously. Listening to this for only 2 seconds gave me goosebumps.

I seriously underestimated the effect sound can have until now.

Edit: Now that i think about it, the only reason i dont listen to "suicide mission" on the ME2 soundtrack is because it causes me real life stress, only hearing a few notes. This is creepy.

Science has proven that both sounds and colours can seriously influence your thought processes. It's really fascinating, but also quite frightening. How many ads are influencing your mind using sound and visual cues? :bandit:

I remember people speculated before the game came out that Kai Leng was at some point going to give Shepard a No Holds Barred Beatdown as a way of showing the players and Shepard that she isnt invincible.

I'd have preferred that to the "Tee hee! I'm gonna shine lights in your eyes! Then I'm gonna send you the email equivalent of a rickroll later! Tee hee, I'm such a naughty boy!" crap we got from Kai Leng on Thessia.

I figure it's like that on purpose, since Lavender town is supposed to be really creepy, so they wrote the song to sound like it was all wrong.

The big building on the top right is where all the dead pokemon get buried, and the town is haunted, so a weird track fits right in.

I've heard that before. Its a creepy thought. Some people have suggested that particular standing wave is responsible for some places that are considered to be haunted.

There is also a municipality somewhere in Canada, cant remember the name, that has a constant low frequency sound coming from an unknown source that affects the entire town.
