By the second dream, your weapons are gone, there are oily shadows, and the whispering is more pronounced, and becomes almost violent as you approach the kid for the last time
In the third dream, the amount of paper scraps flying around has dramatically increased, and the kid is constantly running away from you. In addition, your doppelganger is seen burning along with the kid while smiling.

It all seems like a progression to me.

Definately.  In retrospect.  At the time I was just so freaked out and expecting something nasty to happen that I just rushed through it as quickly as possible.  And then it happened twice again, and each time I was thinking 'aw no, not again!'

I didn't even notice any differences each time.  I just wanted it over with as quickly as possible.

Which is a shame, since those dream scenes are REALLY well done.  You know, now that I have the ability to watch them on youtube and pause it.

Wow...

Reminds me of the theory on what happened to the Ikana in Legend of Zelda: Majora´s Mask. Ultra dark stuff in an already dark game

http://www.zeldauniv...f-majoras-mask/

Long read, but this along with the above says something about hwo much can be hidden beneath the surface of an otherwise simple looking game.

It is similar to what we hope for except that the hidden stuff is supposed to be revealed and not simply something up for interpretation.

Was Majora's Mask actually a good game? I remember when I was a kid I hated it, but I think thats because I didnt actually understand the whole three day cycle thing...

I liked the game and I remember the "time reset" thing was not that annoying IMO. Just play a song before it's too late. Sometimes you had to change time to do certain quests I think.

And I loved exploring that weird world.

Also gets better once you learn you can slow time to half speed by playing the Song of Time in reverse and skip forward half a day by playing the notes twice after each other.

"You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?"

In all seriousness, yes, the game is awesome, if a little depressing. The whole three day cycle is actually one of the things that made me like the game. Link having to do everything he did again to save Termina, constantly striving to make the best out of it, knowing that instant doom is literally right above his head... hard stuff. The game actually made me a little depressed, but in a good way.

Yes, they are very well done! There are a lot of in-depth analysis videos of them on youtube as well. I particularly like this one.

This wouldn't be a collection of weird music without me including Binding of Isaac (such a weird game!)

Wow. It's the videogame music equivalent of Rebecca Black's Friday.

What the hell......

No! If I have to listen to anything resembling Friday, I'm gonna listen to Rucka Rucka Ali's version.

Can't get enough of the analysis videos.  Even the ones I disagree with.  I love thinking about stories, and the fact everyone rallyed together to find deeper meaning in what we got with ME3 is fantastic.  There's so much depth, so much thought and effort put into even minor aspects of it.  Which is why I find the 'Bioware is lazy' argument to be very weak.

Even if I still think the game itself is massively flawed in oh so many ways (oh lordy lord, do not get me started), the story itself for the most part is so good it carries all the bad gameplay aspects.  Heck, it even carries the stupid aspects of the plot.

But taking the ending at face value just hurts.  Not to mention it feels lazy - which is ironic really - as most good stories need to be subtle and require some degree of analysis to get the most out of.  Unless you really like the average Blockbuster movie hit, in which case maybe Mass Effect isn't the game for you.

Frankly, I'm surprised the game is as good as it is, considering it only took them 2 years to make. I would think a game like this would need double that amount of time.

As for the story, I'm convinced that the entire overarching plot, up to and including the indoctrination of both Shepard and the player, was devised before work on the first game was even started.

The smile in the final dream is extremely important, though a lot of people tend to ignore it. Or, rather they call it a smile, when it's actually a smirk. I mean, Shepard smirking at Shepard as they burn. PTSD stuff would surely not have this weird split. If it was a PTSD dream surely the other Shepard would have burned in terror, or screaming, or something horrific. Instead we have the VERY strong suggestion that the doppelganger Shepard is the enemy/pleased at being burned.

EDIT - oof, not expressing myself eloquently today at all. Ah well. Tired.

Agreed. I also like the theory that the fire is the "Anderson" part of Shepard's mind fighting the dream, which makes sense because he wakes up from it immediately after the fire each time, as if "Anderson" is snapping him out of it.

I agree up to a total of 100% with these posts. Who knows how long they have been working on the ending. I would so dig an extensive Making-of of the trilogy.

I got nr.1 about the time it was released. Then I bought the HD collection when my PS2 died out on me. Haven't gotten MGS4 yet, although I'm planning on buying it this weekend.
