It's way more than one second and quite noticeable if you look at the gun, even without stopping the frame.
The only thing in that scene that isn't noticeable without stopping is that the last two shots are accompanied by flashes of white just as the fades to white, but only lasting for under a half second. Compared to that the Predator change is like being slapped in the face with it.

I take it you mean while just playing the sequence, and [edit:] not looking at the data from different physical angles.

After watching that snippet again, I'll concede that there is a little more time right before where you can partially make out the difference in the gun---perhaps three or four seconds, and you're fighting with the scene's darkness to do so.  Again, like I said, I really appreciate the plausibility of this, but I'm also looking at it from the standpoint of BioWare wanting an audience to actually perceive this clue.  Had we seen Shepard's hand dropping or flinging the Predator afterwards, I'd be keeping my pragmatic lips sealed about this.

I won't lie: I have an issue with the gun as evidence---not the implications behind each gun and whether BioWare would employ the logic in this scenario, but the fact that you have to whip out a magnifying glass and a pause button to tell that it went from Carnifex to Predator. I wish the game would have shown Shepard haphazardly dropping the Predator at the end, after focusing shots so intently on the Carnifex. In this form, if intended, it's like BioWare included a needle-in-a-haystack clue that almost all audiences would never perceive.

...but that's what creators do. I personally love the idea. I mean, do you know how many tiny hints were in Fight Club that you won't notice until like the 50th time viewing them?

Or, for example, I wonder how many people spotted that in The Half Blood Prince you see Ravenclaws diadem. Or that in Order of the Phoenix you see the locket at the black house.

The tiny hints are what gives a twist its longevity.

Yup, that's very true.  Also, I've finished Batman: Arkham City's story, and between Batman's brilliant deduction at the end, and my watching the various easter eggs on YouTube, there's actually some nice hints there as to what was going to happen in Arkham City, and what might happen next.  However, I think the situation that is the best example of subtle clues comes in the Identity Theif side quest.  Follow this link for more info.

Reposting 'cause I want to see what people think.

Shepard's decision to sacrifice the geth for those crazy quarians is the first act of hostility.

It was supposed to be a difficult choice. Shepard had to make a call.

Honestly, if it wasn't for Tali's suicide, I would always choose the Geth over the Quarians.  However, I don't have that problem since I have to ability to make peace. :)  You know, take a third option.

I forgot to do the Geth Server mission so I had to choose either.

Ah, well, make sure you do it next time, Tali's worth it. ;)

I did it on a second playthrough.
Her face...priceless. Posted Image

LOL, totally. ;)  IMHO, I don't mind what they did with her face.  I mean, it's not the first time they used real people as faces for characters.  Of course, I would have LOVED it if they had made an actual in-engine face for her, but I'm not going to flame about it like some others have.

Her face was quite OK. It's what happens when people are exposed to a true face of a mystery after years of unknowing.

Interesting fun facts that have nothing to do with IT: When you first go in the conduit and are in the dark chamber. The first body on your left is gripping a coffee mug and slumped over some documents.

There are also two headless Cerberus troopers slumped over the poles.

In the Normandy Crash scene - a giant pulsing glowing ball is in the center of the world (I believe its used for the coloured light bar at the bottom of your screen as I found it in Destroy and it was red) - and next to it is your Shepard model in their damaged armour
.

That's intriguing. Where did you see that?

Hey guys. Sorry to barge in and be the n00b with a question. I've been following the gun discussion for many, many pages now and have been just quietly reading all the points. Had an inquiry though.

Out of curiosity, what do you think the gun switch is implying specifically? Is it because is points to Shepard likely dreaming since objects in his possession are becoming altered? Is there some other implied reason behind this theory?

It is strictly to emphasize that the scene is not real (like a dream where physical laws can break down).

Hey, have any of you guys seen an InvaderXX post in here? He sent me a friend request, and I assumed he was from here, but I don't remember if he has been here or not.

Also (at least my understanding of it) is that one gun(the carnifex) is only used in negative cutscenes when you have to kill a crew member whereas the predator is used in positive occasions like when you first meet Liara on Mars.

I may be mistaken though.

To me the most interesting point for me is the name itself, carnifex apparently means executioner and when the game was translated into Polish, Carnifex became Kat which also means executioner.

I didn't see the indoctrination group listed in his groups....  I don't think I'm going to friend him.

Sooooo, it's been quiet for around 13 minutes. Anyone have any great insights? Small insights? Random OT stuff that means absolutely nothing for IT but is fun to talk about? (That's what I usually do.)

Hey, apparently Casey "Speculations" Hudson has tweeted that there is a new ME3 patch coming out and that they will be ready to discuss its content soon. Any thoughts?

Steak?  I ******* LOVE steak!

Edit: I should point out that I'm merely quoting Gamer Poop.  I'm not a HUGE fan of steak.  I will eat it, but it's not my favorite thing in the world.

Ah, the Unified Nanide-based Indoctrination Theory. We have dismissed these claims

Just kidding. They're imaginative but the Sanctuary mission debunks your hypothesis since Tim was working to control Reapers and Reaper troops, not organics.

Have they fixed the face import bug yet? If not it'll probably be that.

As it's just a patch, don't expect anything major.

I think they already fixed the face import a couple weeks back

I did just think of a programming question: whenever Shepard has to use the Carnifex in a cutscene anywhere else in the game, does it always just load one pistol or does it ever load both as potential assets---meaning, is the Predator always kinda "there"?

Aside from that, there was some discussion a few pages back about broadly-seen movies that might have influenced BioWare's ideas in regards to the indoctrination theory.  We tossed around Vanilla Sky, The Empire Strikes Back, Total Recall, among others.  I personally think evaluating pieces of fiction that use similar ideas, ones that BioWare might view as well-traveled conditioning "precedents" they could base their execution on, is relevant.  I'm also a film nerd, so my idea of what's pertinent or not is a little skewed.

Wrong. He turned organics into husks on Sanctuary and he learned how to control them.
