Byne, you said that Chris locked down the previous thread because it became too long? He locked it on page 2286. Might it have any significance?

LOL. I just searched for "Indoctrination Theory" and the UNIT thread is first in the results. This one is second. :P

2286 wouldn't that be 100 years after Mass Effect 3?

Yes, precisely 100 years after the beginning of ME3.

Which would be about the end of this cycle as the Reapers are done reaping :o

That's an interesting hypothesis. For the setting of ME4. And a convenient excuse to get rid of Shepard from the games. In ME timeframe humans live up to 150 if they are lucky. So Shepard would be about 130 and retired.

He would be 132.

Oh by the way, as per Jadebaby's sugguestion, my Reaper theory and the Ending script have their own threads now, check it out;

http://social.biowar.../index/12095388

http://social.biowar.../index/12095313

Also, since I am working on another re-write for your collective amusement, I am taking suggestions for things you guys wanna see in the next script, right now I've got to add; the "Coates-as-traitor" theory, the "Anderson Indoctrinated" Theory, perhaps some places for gameplay (or not, what do you guys think?) Rachni shredding and disassembling a Destroyer, a few cutscenes of awesomeness, potentially the "Crucible as a massive Mass Accelerator Cannon" theory, a few more example slides for the closing credits cards, and perhaps some more things.

Paxxton, it's unseemly to discuss your UNIT in public, especially with other men.

LOL. I would never do that. This thread would be locked down.

But seriously, UNIT is a very interesting theory that brings together some seemingly hostile aspects of the different interpretations of the ending of Mass Effect 3.

There was that gun-change discussion. And we concluded (I think) that it was just to show that the scene was unreal.

Not much. We even discussed MP for awhile and how many Ardat-Yakshi the reapers have at their disposal. I'm also replaying the game and taking note of when Shepard's firearm switches to either the predator or carnifex to see if a pattern forms.

Fun fact of the day: Tuchanka is an anagram for "A Nut Hack."  Computerized balls?  So that's how the genophage works I guess.

I'm pretty sure he's not. If we do that we'll have totally gone overboard. We might as well go full crazy and say Shepard got mindscrewed on Eden Prime in ME 1 and turned into a husk and just lived out the last few games in his head if we do that.

Going too far, would be a serious understatement......................then this would be a Matrix ripoff.Posted Image

Or those simulations in Fallout3.

Please,..................................NO?

that was a joke.

Late to the party again, I am.

Oh it was a joke alright.

Could I have added to it?

Or are they exclusive?

Well then a few things to say;

One, not all banshees are made from Ardat-Yakshi, most are merely Asari with the potential to bear Ardat-Yakshi children, since the genes are recessive and fairly common, so they only appear in rare cases, usually when 2 Asari breed.

Noticed about the Carnifex/Predator, and one thing people keep forgetting is the Carnifex and Predator aren't symbolic of good versus evil, but Agression and Freedom. The Carnifex is an agressive weapon a hand cannon, meant for it's stopping power, in fact it's advertising features a charging Krogan, and its name made up from the root for the words Carnivorous and cannibal (Carnifex can actually be more closely translated as "butcher" rather than Executioner, but likely the words were one and the same.) The Carnifex is associated with agression and anger, the Renegade sort of path, not necessarily evil.

The Predator is associated with freedom, TIM frees himself from Reaper control, as does Saren, you free the Rachni queen with it, twice, Fai Dan commits suicide with one, and Liara kills the men chasing her with it. Morever, the Predator is NOT a soldier's gun, it's not distributed to militaries, it's a weapon Shepard chose himself, and is primarily used by civilians for self-defense.

Really interesting observations. I've never looked at the guns that way. Posted Image
So the gun used to "destroy" the Reapers being the Predator shows that it isn't the Renegade choice or something?

It's showing that Shepard is breaking free, not that it's renegade or paragon. The whole ending is about getting you to REALLY role play, and bucking the entire Renegade/Paragon dichotomy.

Basically pointing out that you can't make judgements based on some arbitrary colours.

Sorry I should have been more specific, we were discussing the 1% gene rather than actual Ardat- and that those carrying the gene are about as rare as Germans or Canadians... but it was mostly a stab at MP and if it was sometimes liberal with canon.

As for the guns: a few notable things with the predator so far have been:

Eva using it to kill two Alliance officers in a security video.
Shepard uses it to shoot both the VS and Udina (both with a renegade choice)
He also shoots Samara's daughter with it (using a renegade choice)
And also kills Legion with it (using several renegade choices)

I'm not weighing in one way or another with this debate as I'm undecided on it at this stage, just presenting the facts for you guys to sift through.

I'm personally of the opinion that those were merely just because of the need for a pistol, and not any symbolic meaning in those, but, eh, im not on the writing team, so what do I know?

While I abhor Sten, he is right in the follow statement:  No.

Admiral Raan caps herself with a shuriken SMG if she's taking Tali's place and the quarians bite it.  So while... wait.  Wait.  Did you just do a speech about how the carnifex is named for aggression because of things like carnivore and butchering, as opposed to the predator?  The PREDATOR?  Dude.  http://oxforddictionaries.com/  But I digress.  Shepard uses the predator to murder Falere and shoot Legion should he try to stop the upload, neither of which are exactly pro-freedom choices.  Speaking of Samara, her suicide is with a Phalanx.  And while it's not a cutscene reference, you get the carnifex as a gameplay weapon while freeing ex-Cerberus scientists and their families.

It seems like the Predator is used for everything. Does anyone ever use the Carnifex for anything substantial?
