For you guys who were interested in analyzing the music of ME3, a recent article on the composers: www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/6/12/3063615/mass-effect-dikiciyan-hulik-velasco-bioware

Thanks for that. Even now I'll spend hours listening to ME music while doing something else, or nothing at all. It's good to see such from the composers.

I'm for bed. Take care all.

So much to read through to catch up. Man, you guys have been productive the last 10h. And as the audiophile I think I am, this is awesome:

By the by, results of my infrasound run:

There is substantial, but not exceptional, infrasound in the london level, but much, much more interestingly, there is a low bass hum ~26-31Hz (varies a little between scenes) that from what I've seen so far appears in every single scene with Major Coates.

For example, from a conversation with only coates and shep inside the hammer base:

And then, immediately after coates leaves:

Why yes James, I think we do hear that hum...

Ok, so here are my initial thoughts.

It appears to me that we have some very compelling evidence for the Coates Theory here, as well as IT in general.

The presence of infrasound while Coates is present has no possible purpose other than to be a hidden, undetectable indoctrination signal that can only be found with specific equipment.

To explore my reasoning behind that, lets step outside of the context of the story for a moment.

There are bass frequencies in there that are literally so low, no conventional speaker would be able to reproduce them. They have no business being there. Sound systems wouldnt play them, and we'd certainly never, ever hear them or even know they were there.

In the context of the Mass Effect story, however?

Of this there can be no doubt.

Ok, stepping back out of the story here again.

30hz on the other hand is a very "safe" bet if you're trying to convey a bassy hum to an audience that will be reproduced on the majority of home theater systems. It's used by sound studios all the time when doing movie and videogame sound effects. Any system with a subwoofer of any kind can reproduce 30hz. In fact, any system that utilizes woofers 5.5 inches (sorry, I'm used to using American standard units when talking about speakers...) or larger will be able to do 30hz to some degree. It's a great frequency for adding some punch to explosions and humming engines and things of that nature.

My conclusion is that the presence and non-presence of the 30hz bass and infrasonic hums coinciding with the presence of Coats is, in my opinion, Bioware trying to call attention to, or leave an indication of, an infrasonic indoctrination signal associated with Coats.

So what do we need to present this as irrefutable evidence? Quite simply, we just need more of it. We need to reveal obvious patterns in where the infrasound is and is not present. If we can do that, we may just have our Ace.

If this were a war, victory may well be at hand...

Reposting for the new page. If you havent read it, do yourself a huge favor and read it. It's the find of the month, if not more.

edit: Information on Infrasound in general for anyone who isnt aware:
http://www.lowertheb.../infrasound.htm

I can see the 30Hz peak while Coates is there and then vanishing, as many of the lower frequencies do. And those low peaks are clearly not within a reasonable error tolerance, they clearly stand out.

And especially interesting is, how TSA found out that the spectrum is similar when Harbinger shows up!

Playing around with this (again, thx TSA for linking that)
www.digital-recordings.com/www-instruments/www-scope-dfg-st-st/scope_dfg_st_st_help.html
I found out once again that my Sennheiser PX100 are godlike. While listening to frequencies between 10 and 20Hz (everything below 20 is just pumping of the speaker's diaphragm), I somehow felt like I did hear this during ME3 (played it with the same headphones), dunno where, maybe it's a retrospective placebo...but maybe not.

I am looking forward to the analysis of the Normandy background sounds, Catalyst scene, ProtoReaper on Cronos, etc.

I'm working on assembling Vega dialog that points towards shared memories, but at the same time it would be a good idea for someone with good recording equipment to capture sound in the shuttle bay before and after talking to him - with and without his 'do you hear that hum' line. The 30Hz peak may not be there all the time, but I suspect it's there on occasion.

Figuring out the source is another matter all together.

And the files themselves :P. That I considering being the hardest research work.

The story-wise source, like the IFF, that is a matter of discussion. But we're used to that.

But this is really pissing me off. I want to know whether the IT is true or not and move on. What they're doing is wrong whether the IT is true or not. We were promised a satisfying conclusion to Shepard's journey with closure. Not one with major speculations.

I really don't get why folk want the answer to a major spoiler, I'm being serious, if Bioware were to announce publicly whether I.T is true or not before the release of the DLC then it would be game over for me, the whole concept of I.T is not knowing whether you are being manipulated or not, remember Bioware wants the player to experience what Shepard is experiencing, the only way they can do that is by keeping silent, actually reading back over my statement, it seems to be working quite well on you

That's not the only way. In addition to the doubt and the unsurety, they are themselves playing the Reapers. They're flogging Synthesis as the best ending, remaining cryptic, defending Reaper logic, etc.

Ah yes, Bioware, the inmortal company of good writers allegedly waiting until EC comes out. We have dismissed that claim.

Immortal.

Inmortal means something is inside of someone subject to death. I highly doubt Bioware is inside a human body.

good morning people *hands out coffee*

just skimmed over the 20 or so pages i missed while i slept, some interesting stuff i see, is there anything I should be pointed at?

just finished ME2 again last night, 100% every cluster and mission :)
gotta say, it might have been in my head, but after aequitas, and more so after the derelict reaper i was noticing slight sound fades, like when scanning planets EDI's voice sounding like it was in a tunnel. and dialog sounding distant for what seemed a few minutes before fading back. anyone else notice something like this?
might have been the same in arrival, i was too busy hiding and shooting people there to notice too much.
paying attention to the game this time though, i have to say that anyone who says IT wasnt foreshadowed must have played a different game then i did.
im a believer that if they do go with IT, they had it planned from the begining. like at least ME2 production, if not all the way back in ME1.

cause seriously, if they didnt, what do all these connecting factors mean?

Bleh. Sore throat. A sickness is trying to invade. **** it. I hate sore throats the worst of any symptom. I'm going to kill this cold by sheer burning hatred. As it invades, let it burn up in my veins from the sheer contempt I have for it.

Just in case. You never know when someone could misunderstand your jokes :P

Anywho... I was thinking about harby. Why is he so quiet in ME3? He never stopped talking in ME2...  Well, he's quiet if you don't count all the "Everyone's dying!" and "You can't help me" and he messing with your mind... but... yeah, he's quiet. Very quiet.

Taking the end at face value... when he "kills" you and leave London he should have said something like "you're nothing Shepard" or something... Meh.

Oh Holy Emperor, enshrined upon your Golden Throne,
Guide and protect the sword arm of this humble servant.
May my aim be true, my strikes swift and painful.
May I find myself the scourge of your enemies most holy God-Emperor,
with sword and bullet, may I bring fire to the Heretic, death to the mutant, and cleansing to the unholy.
For the Imperium. For mankind. Death to the alien, Death to the Heretic, death to the mutant.
Amen.

(and for the record, that game was based off this one.)
