Forces of the Universe. Not who but what. The Grand Scheme of Things. This is just how it all works.

If true, this would undoubtedly have to be explained in the EC if it turns out that IT is true, since it is clearly foreshadowing a Catalyst-like character

another little thing about sounds...

remember meeting liara on mars?
she made an awful lot of noise moving around inside the vent duct, as it should be.
then let's go back to the kid in the intro, notice something different?
no sound of him moving in the duct whatsoever. either he's not there to begin with, this was a lapse of judgement on the sound team or....he's a ninja.

i doubt it was the second due to the sound design team of mass effect being one of the best and it shows on how much detail they put on each sound effect they implement into their games, also they showed how someone moving in a duct would make a lot of noise with liara right afterwards.

The thing is, the kid originally makes noise, which is what drew Shep's attention to the ductin the first place, but once she gets distracted by Anderson, he just disappears with no sound. It isnt just inconsistent when comparing his vent escapades with Liara's, its inconsistent within the same scene.

if he had made a sound as he was leaving, anderson most likely would have heard it.
my own personal guess is that the first sound was just shepard that heard it and at the end of the scene it's reality again hence why we don't hear the kid leaving. the player hears what shepard hears...or maybe i'm just looking too much into it.

Why does there have to be a master of the cycles? Just because some random prothean scientists thought there was one?

Reapers gonna reap. Dont need any master.

Yes, but BW put that line in for a reason, and I think it is pretty obvious that it foreshadows a Catalyst-like character. That begs the question of why BW would even put that in if in fact a "master" doesn't exist.

I just figured the masters of the cycle were the Reapers themselves, as they're the ones who set it up so that all civilizations follow their pre-planned paths.

That Ash is a deep cover agent working for Cerberus? Because thats totally what I was suggesting. ;)

She seems to pretty conveniently make her way to the Council during the coup, after all. Even Shepard wonders why she was with them, and Ash just makes up some "I was tired of being couped (see what I did there?) up in the hospital" excuse.

Also, wasnt Thane supposed to be keeping an eye on her for us, to make sure she stayed safe? And she someone manages to easily slip away from someone as observant as Thane?

That's what I thought. It actually seems quite plausible. I cant think of anything that directly contradicts it....

You make a good point, but her attitude is consistant throughout. Her excuses are weak, but her hatred for Cerberus and disgust with what they were doing to their own troops is always there. It's not too shocking she would react this way (and compare Shepard to the trooper on Mars), considering how she acted when you meet her on Horizon.
Now that I think of it, I haven't actually completed a playthrough with Kaidan yet...does he react the same?

If you have time, watch IT's very own Megumi's video on different squad constellations during key moments in that scene: www.youtube.com/watch

It follows -- from other in-game oddness -- that the main suspects are: James, Liara, Ash/Kaiden.

There was supposed to be a plotline that got dropped regarding a Cerberus mole, but alot of the clues are still in the game and some of them point at those suspects.

For example, there are three pieces of gear you find on Chronos station; the Falcon grenade launcher, the Delumcore Overlay and the Serrice leg armor.

Kaiden has the Falcon in the squad selection screen, James and Ashley both have the overlay in one gear set, and Liara uses the Serrice armor.

But, it's still most likely leftovers from cut content.

The VS is always vitriolic and suspicious regardless of your actions or words towards them. Even if you romanced them....

Who is to say it got dropped though? It might come into play in the EC or DLC, who knows. Maybe playing as the VS could be a "play as the bad guy" DLC?

Continuing my playthrough. Just asked Commander Bailey about the pulse of the war on the Citadel and got this gem in response:

Bailey: You can only live in denial so long.
Shepard: You wake up or you die. Either way...

Oh BioWare. You slay me.

Just because he happened to be wrong in one area (which is owed to the character of the Protheans and at this point in the narrative, the chances of survival do look low anyway), doesn't mean he is wrong everywhere. Saying "he's completely crazy" doesn't cut it as a good explanation, clearly BW wanted him to say that for a certain reason, and from the end, it seems he is talking about the Catalyst

Plus, while they seem a little cold towards you on Earth, they dont really start questioning your loyalties until after you start killing Cerberus troopers, which is just weird.

Plus Ash said at one point that Shep was the only Cerberus presence on Horizon while she was stationed there, which is odd, because how the hell would she know? Its not like undercover Cerberus agents are easily spotted.

Because the narrative tells you it knows, it tells you with some certainty, why put it in if he is completely off the mark without even telling us how

Although it is heavily implied in the narrative that there is a sentient force behind it all

A way the things happen isn't a character. Vendetta only hypothesizes that there's a master.

The Reapers themselves are sentient. I'd like to know how the protheans came to the conclusion that the Reapers werent the masters of the cycle. Just seems like a random conclusion they jumped to.
