Good morning guys (or whatever time of the day it is in your country right now :) )
I just thought of another pretty big part of nonsense when it comes to the Reapers....
as far as we know, they reap the galaxy exactly every 50 000 years, right?
Why the pattern? At the time they arrive in this cycle, there has already developed some kind of fight between Synthetics and Organics (Quarians and Geth). So, has there never been a cycle where, in 50 000 years, at least one race had been developed far enough so that they were able to create a race of Synthetics, and those Synthetics succeeded to kill everyone? I think that would be possible in 50 000 years.. so why don't the Reapers arrive exactly when the first Synthetic is built?

Also, you have to wonder.. if the Reapers kill every race that is developed far enough to create Synthetics.. wouldn't there come a day when no living creature in the galaxy is left?
Because, at some point, every race would be far enough to be reaped, and I don't think new races just appear out of nowhere.

I'll take a shot at it.

ME1 already had husks, and they wanted to keep them though the entire trilogy. When it came to making the Reaper forces, they wanted to get as much diversity as possible and use as many different alien races as possible. A lot got left out, obviously. So I guess there probably wasn't any room left for a plethora of different human Reaper monsters. They did have Scions in ME2, though. Those were bamfs.

Also, if you compare humans physical stature to the other races, we can be found lacking. I think it is the intangible qualities of humanity that got Harbinger's attention.

So yeah, they want the human spirit, not the body, as much, maybe? Husks have bravery against all odds going for them, that's for sure!

Heehee! Husks are the embodiment of human bravery :P

I always found it amusing that while the Reapers consider humans the best species for this cycle, reaperized humans are the most laughably pathetic of their forces. Then again, nothing makes less sense than banshees being the badass unit instead of brutes.

I agree. If we're supposedly most valuable as genetic goo, why turn so many into husks....

I have a little theory about that: if you directly huskify a species (without modification like Brutes or without unique DNA like Banshees) it reduces their behavior to one less evolved. Humans devolve into very animalistic troops, clawing and swarming the enemy like a pack of dogs (or hey, apes why not), while Turians who are very militaristic (and considered "primitive" already by Harbinger) become command units capable of using weapons and even some form of verbal commincation. Cannibals behave smarter than a Human Husk, but usually only after munching on some other husks....which just might explain why some Batarians are hard to like.

Honestly they all seem pretty stupid. Marauders and ravagers the least so but the others don't even seem to attempt to minimize their damage. Banshees never try to defend themselves in any way. It's 100% offensive. Brutes will hold the heavily armored claw in front of them sometimes when walking but otherwise they're dumber than a bag of hammers. Brutes are like a Robocop villain: completely screwed by any level geometry. Cannibals... a cannibal in a firefight will stop attacking and go start chowing down on allies with no protection whatsoever even though a potted plant could identify this scenario as "suicidal."

The Illusive Man really wanted synthesis...

The Illusive Man: Hardly. They're being improved.

The Illusive Man: Use their power. Harness their very essense to bring humanity to the apex of evolution.

The Illusive Man: Everything I've done has uplifted humanity.

The Illusive Man:
There's a better way forward. Humanity can be so much more.

The Illusive Man: The physical benefits are too useful to ignore.

The Illusive Man:
Roll it out. I want all troopers fitted with implants before the reapers arrive.

You see, Saren bred a Krogan army, he had the Rachni, and Asari commandos, and indoctrinated salarians and he recruited the Geth. So Saren got more points and he got to unlock it...

This gets me thinking about the REAL cycle.

Spectre fights Reapers.
Spectre becomes indoctrinated while fighting Reapers.
New Spectre kills indoctrinated Spectre and discovers the Reapers.
Spectre fights Reapers.

well the prothean VI talks about never ending patterns. It is possible that the rate of species advancement is one of these patterns. But that would mean the reapers would have to harvest every single technologically advanced race. not just ones that are capable of space travel, but any species that knows how to farm. think about it. what if humanity didn't discover the prothean beacon on mars for another 100 years?

I’m inclined to believe that it is not a set 50,000 years, just when the galactic community at large reaches a certain benchmark.they do leave 1 reaper behind for each cycle to monitor the galaxy. Creation of advanced synthetics would be a good benchmark to go by. Not for bringing chaos to the galaxy as the Reapers would have you believe, but for being a threat to the Reapers.

but that is really only if you take what starbinger says as fact.

as for your second question. there are an estimated 500 million planets capable of sustaining life in our galaxy. I don’t think the Reapers are going to run out anytime soon.
