Hi Everyone
Please check out the new BioWare Blog. This entry kicks off a new monthly series of questions from the Dragon Age development team that seeks input from you as to where you want to see the Dragon Age franchise should go. These questions and your answers will help the team better create games, novels, comics, etc within the Dragon Age franchise.
The question lasts 1 week. You will have the week to post your thoughts, desires, and hopes before we close the thread for review. Moderators and developers will pop into the thread to chat every now and again, so keep an eye out and come back often.
BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka has mentioned that we’d like to open up more in future Dragon Age titles, so now we turn to you: What kinds of things would you like to learn more about? Antivan weddings? Orlesian balls? The remnants of the Tevinter empire? Burial customs among the Chaisind?
What kinds of things would you like to discover and learn about the Dragon Age world?
We look forward to hearing from you.
Hello, this is the first time for me to this forum, my Name is Carol - I did have a few questions, will we be seeing more of Larius as it appears that Corypheus has er....possessed his body. I've this sneaking suspicion....well, now matter, I'd like to see how that plays out. Also what exactly Carver Hawke/Bethany Hawke and the Grey Wardens were up to that they were in such a blasted hurry. Hm, the mystery of Fenris' marking and if other magisters in Tevinter have such knowledge and what exactly did they intend to accomplish with it? Does Fenris ever get his memories back? It'd be interesting if Fenris was not the only one marked in such a way. What's happened to the Warden and Hawke that the seekers can't find them? Do we see more of Flemmeth and do we ever learn of her Origin? Come to that Morrigan and her child if the dark ritual was complete.
I had this theory about the blight and it's origins....of course just my opinion - The original Tevinter Magisters were doing some dangerously stupid experiment that harnassed the Ancient Elven magics, the Fade/Beyond trying to do some silly thing like stop the aging process to live forever and the big accident ended in a new type of life form - mutations of humanoids (elf, dwarf, human and Kosith - though I still say they must be related to the dragons somehow) with a magical viral effect. Hm, and there must be other lands besides Thedas - if those mirrors were able to be used to travel as well as communicate, could it not be possible for decendents of the long lived elves somewhere in other lands with intact knowledge of their culture? Hm and maybe shapeshifting dragons? That's my guess as to Flemmeth's origins. Perhaps she was the high dragon who made Andraste's ashes disappear? And it seems a bigger change she foresees is still in the works. There is so much to look into, not to mention perhaps exploring places like the Anderfels. That reminds me, will we ever learn Anders' real name? Ok that's all for now. - Well, one last question, will we ever discover anything about the uncharted wilds and more about the Chasind?
I did like being able to choose character race as well as details, though in the first one, you couldn't change eye colors.....I'll have to continue later, it's time to sleep.

Also, I would like to see the full dialogue option typed beforehand. I can't stand not knowing what my character will say before he says it. More often than not, it ends up being something I didn't expect nor wanted him/her to say.
A sympathetic pro-Templar character in the party. We never had one of those.

So, what are the Architect's plans? What will happen with the talking darkspawn? There are good darkspawn somewhere, like the Messenger from Awakening, right? Will they have a "good darkspawn" colony or something? But it's not possible for them to co-exist with humans and dwarves because of the taint, so how will that go? The last two Blights - what will happen? Architect knows the location of the last two Old Gods, doesn't he? Who else knows? Who will use the knowledge? What happens to the magister from Dragon Age 2 DLC - will he awaken the archdemons, lead the darkspawn, try to become a human again? If Alistair's mother is Fiona who reversed the Calling, is it possible for other Grey Wardens? If Grey Wardens use blood magic and blood magic makes Wardens like Avernus live much longer, why don't more of them use it to prolong their lives? What happens to Grey Wardens who leave the Wardens, like Anders and Alistair? Some of them spread the Wardens's secrets, right? Are they hunted down? What happens to their children if Wardens choose their family and children over duty? Morrigan said "the child will bear the taint", so at least some of them must be tainted, like the Wardens. Do the Wardens automatically take them into the Wardens, or are these children allowed to choose their own paths? Why don't Wardens, especially female Wardens, just drink some poison instead of Calling? I mean, who would want to go and die in the dark and possibly become a Broodmother(and leave some expensive equipment to the darkspawn, too), when you can die with dignity, just fall asleep, like Aragorn? Will Morrigan's baby play a part in the future of the darkspawn? Did other Tevinter Magisters knew the truth about the talking darkspawn? Did they try to control the Darkspawn(contol the Reapers, yeah)? Is it possible to get rid of the darkspawn for good? Will we see the sixth and the seventh Blight? If there's no Old God Baby, is it possible that another of Flemeth's daughters would do Morrigan's ritual for the next Blight(that possibly happens off-screen)?
...Anyway. Someone wrote about DA universe that darkspawn is practically the only relevant thing in the story, because all others(Antivan assassinations, Fereldan civil wars and even Orlesian intrigues) are just people fighting over the seats on Titanic. And I must say, I quite agree. So, for me, darkspawn it is.

-Where did they come from?
-How did the elves lose their immortality?
-If they were once able to sleep for thousands of years, what happened to the ones who slept while their people fell to the humans?
Since we're headed to Orlais:
-How does the power divide work between the Chantry and Orlesian nobility? Are they even really divided at all?
-Templars vs chevaliers: who holds the higher authority? How do these factions interact with each other?
-Is there anyone at all assigned to protecting the common people? That perfume-selling girl in the Denerim marketplace implies pretty strongly that chevaliers can get away with absolutely anything.
-Templars: Is there a selection process for becoming a one? What are they taught about mages and magic prior to becoming a full member of the order? Are they told about the final results of lyrium addiction before they start taking it? Whose idea was it to get them addicted to lyrium in the first place?
Of course there's the usual curiosity about the Fade, red lyrium, the Black City, what really happened to cause the Blight, how the Chantry went from a bunch of people following a woman with mage-like abilities (even if they were divinely inspired) to locking away all mages, etc.
"Burial customs of the Chasind" also sounds terribly interesting =D

Or did he have a purpose for leaving them where humanity could visit them in dreams?
I would like to know more about the Tranquil, like how Karl could temporarily regain his dreams and emotions because of what Anders did, and whether it might lead to an eventual cure for tranquility?
What is outside of Thedas? It's a continent, I know, so I'm assuming it doesn't fill the entire world? I don't mean going there but maybe some Codex entries explaining the experiences of travellers who went there?
It is implied the Kossith came from there, right? Where did they come from exactly?
Finally, a bit aout the Fauna of Thedas. There are Dragons and Wyverns but maybe other fantastic creatures? There were Griffins, but they're extinct (How did that happen by the way?).
Just my two cents

Cassandra as the main character: If you keep going down the route of the fixed protagonist, might as well devote fully to it.

I would not mind Cassandra as a companion but I do not wish for her to be the main character.
I still want to have some control and make my character my own. We were able to do that to our Wardens and to our Hawkes to a slightly lesser extent.
Playing as Cassandra would diminish that.

I just wanted to mention (because the inclusion of the word "discover" in the original question has been vaguely haunting me) that, for me, discovery isn't about knowing an answer. Like, this is how you do the Rite of Tranquility. I think it's more a case of discovering how the Orlesians interact with the Tranquil, say - because Ferelden and Kirkwall were different. Or how a society works without them. (Does Tevinter have Tranquil?) That stuff.

Playing as Hawke already diminished it to the point of insignificancy. I'm just leading to the logical conclusion.Melca36 wrote...

I would really like to know more about what it takes to become a mage, templer, rouge, etc. The training. also more about the grey wardens, From the end of DAII you guys were possibly going to go into the full revolution by the mages, with Anders actions/merideths actions as the catalyst. It woudl be really great if you could just continue from there. also getting to know more about other places like Orlay and Tevinter though gameplay would be great. Really you guys are the ring masters it is your world, just put in the best bits from both games, remember characters are so, so, important and that there are so many of us who did love DAII. I trust you. You guy fantastic storytellers, Just remember that and it will all be wonderful. <3:D

- Kal Sharok. I would like to see Kal Sharok, to meet the dwarves there. I would like to know HOW did they survive the First Blight if all resources were sent to Orzammar. I would like to know how their culture developed over the centuries. Do they live in caste system as well? Do they know the origin of and use for Red lyrium?
- Grey Wardens. But without involving them in mage/templar war. They are Protectors against the Darkspawn. Involving them in petty wars and conflicts( no matter how big a scale of the war is) is diminishing their importance. They don't make difference between classes, races, nations or even mage and non-mage people. They are above it. Show us their influence in the world, their search for Architect ( if he was left alive), and other things Wardens do between the Blights. And more of that, not only hints and bits (very small ones) like in DA2.
- If we are going Orlais, as everybody are sure in that, let us see the old lands of the Dales. Let us uncover new things about Elves and their Gods, Eluvians etc... Or we could even be set upon a mission to investigate possible sites of the Arlathan?
- Nevarra would be interesting place to visit. What with all the dragons showing up in Ferelden and Free Marches, Nevarran Dragon hunters would be very interested in investigating the occurences.
- I know DA3 will be gathered around Orlais, but Qunari islands, Tevinter cities with common people, Rivain and Antiva, each have something to give and contribute to Dragon Age Universe.
- I understand this week's question regards the places and lands we would like to see. But if you want to know about people as well, than it will probably take a lot more bullets.

- Warden, Morrigan and OGB, ofc. Mr. Gaider already said that will be addressed in DA3, so I won't push it. Much.
- I would like to see my friends from DAO and DAA, except Wynne, ofc. R.I.P. Wynne. I want to see Aveline, Varric and maybe Isabela and Cullen. I don't care about others from DA2. Don't even care what happened with Hawke.
- What happened in Orzammar after DAO? Did Bhelen's New society order replace Harrowmont's oldfashioned caste system?
- What happened with Sten? Our old hornless Sten of the Beresaad?
- And last but not the least important, the Dragons. Instead of putting some mindless and pointless boss fight like in DA2, ( High Dragon fight in DAO had sense, really) give us a chance to discover the true secrets of the Dragon age and why is it called like that. Are Old Gods really some powerfull entities or just the 7 most inteligent High Dragons that Ancient Tevinters worshiped? Do they have connections to Fade, Spirits and the Taint? Can they speak?

More on the Tevinter empire would be cool, but not too much. It's after all a long time ago, and everything detailed would sort of ruin the mystery too.
And don't forget Awakening! The talking darkspawns was a cool thing. Are there any left?
How are the common people reacting to the chantry now (especially after Da2's events). I would assume people would lose faith in the church (in medieval times) if someone blew up a huge cathedral.

Going by my gut feeling, you guys should be doing something that parallels the crusades, aka the exalted march. I will like to see if we can actually explore the camps of this holy army, and also learn more about previous marches as well.
Finally, I will like to see where the grey wardens fit into this setting, and more of their invovlement in the new setting.

1) The fade & a conclusion to some of the mysteries surrounding the Eluvian. I felt that the fade and demons were interesting elements of the first game and peaked my interest in the lore of Ferelden. And the Eluvian has been central to the story of my two favourite companions (Morrigan & Merrill) from the previous two games.
2) More of the Dalish elves! And their nomadic settlements. The Brecilian forest was so much fun to explore and I was a little disappointed in DA2 when all they had was a mountain. Not quite as much exploration to do... and there wasn't any more elaboration about their way of life and traditions etc.
City elves just make me sad
3) A section of the game covering the mage-templar war. I really want to take part in this, I will always do my first (and best loved) play-through as a Mage. I want to crush some Templars heads rather than reading a codex about what happened. Not saying the whole game should cover this but at least a bit.
I think it would be great to see what remains of the circle, and whether apostates and circle mages join forces, how the different factions of mages react to the rebellion etc
Please. Pretty Please.

Who is Bianca
More about characters pre dragonage (eg Anders life before being dragged off to the circle)
Is Morrigan really who she claims or is she another part of Flemeth
Really importantly - Is Anders in DA3 and if so is he romancable (will buy the game regardless, but it gives me something more to look forward to)

- Morrigan/Old God Baby/ Eluvian Land (provided it isn't bolted on as some cameo, and goes in-depth)
- Primeval Thaig/Red Lyrium/ These pre-historic Dwarves
- More on the Awakened Darkspawn
- More on the Fade and The Black City
- The reutrn of the Dragons ( I know this is in the Comics and online, but it'd be nice to have it ina game to an extent)

I think it's already said how Varric named his crossbow. In Legacy. Some dwarf made Bianca for him...etc... can't remember the whole story.

- Would love to see a sprinkling of non-European mythos brought in. Maybe inspired from India's rich mythology. It might just introduce an interesting story arch...maybe adding equipments or weapons inspired from Indian Mythologies...I know mixing Tolkienesque framework with any other mythos might not be the greatest of ideas, but you could explore that for a while and discard if it sounds not that great...maybe....
