I don't really need any of the open plot threads to be resolved. By that I mean I don't really need to know what happened to the warden and Hawke and all the other characters after their respective games. I like having a mostly new cast take over and leave the existing characters' lives up to my imagination.

But in regards to bits of the world and storythreads I would like to see more of:

- The fade, black city and demons in dreams. That was by far the most interesting aspect of the world in Dragon Age 1. Even though the actual depiction of the fade wasn't that great, I really like the idea of it. So more characters and stories and history from the other side of the fade please. Or, you know, try to come up with a new concept that is as interesting and well told.

- The red lyrium and it's weird variant on darkspawn corruption. That was the most interesting new bit of lore from Dragon Age 2.

- I liked the focus on one country and political situation in the first two games. I'd rather learn all the little details about a country and it's people, than have lots of tiny bits of world building spread out over lots of different countries and cultures. Any of the locations in Thedas sound potentially fascinating as a focal point.

- Maybe some more bits of about the world outside Thedas. I'm fascinated by what lies beyond the Korcari Wilds, beyond the oceans and borders of the world. Then again, I'd like the mystery of the world to be kept intact.

Yeah, that's about it. Erm. yeah. Scrolling through this thread I see almost everyone has something else they want to see expanded. Good job on creating such a broad and widely interesting world I guess. :)

I'm actually really interested in seeing the Tevinter Imperium in the current situation. It's a fallen empire that's been trying to stay powerful for years. Now that a civil war has erupted between mages and templars, a potentially huge number of persecuted mages could flock to them, which would probably strengthen them a great deal.

It could put an interesting spin on things for the other kingdoms. If they continue their persecution, they could drive all mages they don't manage to get, into the arms of a suddenly powerful Tevinter Imperium, who might see the situation and decide to try and return to the good old days.

- I would like to see Orlais and actually have it be different from typical fantasy BS.
- I would like to see more mages versus templars and the moral issues involved there (less slapstick than the end of DA2 please)
- I would love to see a warden who goes to the deep roads to die, but never does... becoming more and more insane from the voices in his head but enable to die from combat.

I would realy like to see different cultures we didn't experience in previous games (tevinter mages, qunari (and I mean in their homeland), orlesians). Also more little stories of non-heroic characters would be great.

Great thread. Thanks BW for inviting us on board.

Story/Setting:
- The mage/templar conflict has to continue, but throw something new into the mix. Asunder was cool, but it grows old nevertheless.
- It would be great to still be able to make choices for both Hawke and the Warden, and still have impact on the the setting.
The “just like the Warden” comment really needs some kind of answer.
- Revisit old locations: Denerim, Amaranthine, even Kirkwall. Show us how they have changed, just don't linger.
- Show us new locations: Orlais, Rivain, Par Vollen.
- Continue the story of Morrigan. I liked WH, even the ending, but it left me gasping for more.
- What happened to Sebastian and Starkhaven?
- What about Sten? Revisiting him after DA2 could be very interesting.
- More on the elves and dwarves, especially DAO was pure gold.

Gameplay:
- Breath life into the cities. You cannot go to Val Royeaux, only to find it static and half-empty. It would be a disaster.
- A BG/BGII/DAO/DAA/WH story: a linear prologue, then open up the map. It works!
- “Unify” the artstyles of the quanri, darkspawn and the elves. No recons. Female dwarves and qunari, please?
- More “realistic” combat. Make sure you have powerful martial options, even to the end. Teleporting rogues is just silly, at least on low level, and it diminishes the mages.
- Increased replay value: Meaningful choices, origins, random elements, more banter, multiple endings
- Tactical camera!
- More role-playing, less combat.
- I want to manage a stronghold.
- Better loot.
- New monsters
- No import issues.

Glad you guys want feedback. I’m going to give a full review
here, things I liked and disliked along with suggestions. I apologize for my
rants in advance. Sorry.

What I liked about
DA2

  • Hawke was voiced. I think everyone agrees with
me that this was the most well-liked change.
  • Improved combat fluidity. I admit I wasn’t a fan
of Origins’ combat system at first. Eventually learned to like it but I liked
    DA2’s combat better.
  • Day and Night switch, though I think I am the
only one liking this. Maybe you guys could implement a daytime/ night time
    cycle for the next game?

What I disliked

Major points [/i]

  • The RPG elements were toned down. DA2 was more like a button or mouse masher
than anything else. Origins required some teamwork and tactical thinking while
DA2 was more like, ‘I see, I charge, I kill’. Occasionally, I had to switch characters
(healing, blah blah) but it was nothing compared to Origins.  My Hawke was a rouge and it was just mindless
    bull-dozing. (No offense)
  • I think the next point is everyone’s gripe. The
dungeons and environments were recycled endlessly. Nearly every single cavern
or interior was an exact replica of the other. You guys did a good job in the
DLCs though. Thank you, Bioware. Hopefully, this will be applied to DA3.
  • Kirkwall, Kirkwall, Kirkwall. It was either Kirkwall in the day or night.
Origins featured a much bigger map. In DA2 it was only the tavern, low town,
high town, docks and the occasional venturing out to a few selected areas (E.g.
    Sundermount, Wounded Coast).

Minor points [/i]

  • Bring back weapon swapping from Origins. In
origins, I could carry dual daggers and a bow at the same time or a greatsword
and a one-handed with a shield. In 2, it was either you carried daggers or if
you wanted a bow instead, open the inventory and change it.  There was no way I could carry both.
  • It could just be me but I really disliked the
time interval between playable acts. If I remember correctly, there was an
interval of 3 years between the acts. To me, it felt that there was a part of
the story I was being left out of. But then again, it could just be me being
    picky.

Suggestions for DA3 (just my 2 cents worth)

  • Though I thoroughly enjoyed DA2’s companion
relationships, I missed Origin’s campfire conversations.  All those campfire conversations really drew
me into each of the characters’ stories and personalities. In DA2, companion
interaction was only after the completion of a major companion story event, for
example: Merrill after the Keeper’s Death, Fenris after you allow him to kill
his master, Anders after helping him plant his bomb. You get the point. Other
than that, when I went to their home bases and tried to talk to them, all I got
was a one-liner. Really hated that.

  • Complete Morrigan’s and Flemeth’s story. Also, I
want to know what happens to the god-child.  My warden went through the Eluvian with her.
What happens next?? Hawke’s story too. His story ends with him ‘disappearing’?
  • Bigger
map please. I really enjoyed Origin’s Fereldan. For DA3, I would really like to
explore other areas such as Orlais (bump into Leliana/
Marjolaine there?), Antivan (Zevran/ The crows?), Par Vollen (Sten/ The
Arishok?) and the Tevinter Imperium (Fenris)?

I know this is a long piece but hey, I love the series.
Also, don’t bow to the pressures of rushing to churn out a new game, just for
the sake of it. Take your time to craft a good one and most importantly, listen
to constructive feedback.

Good luck

Hi Everyone

What kinds of things would you like to discover and learn about the Dragon Age world?

We look forward to hearing from you. :)

What I want to discover is the world. So please give us an open area more akin to say Baldur's Gate II.
Giving us the freedom to discover, explore, and basically play the game as we want.

;)also being able to "discover" what our companions look and perform like with different armor and weapon combinations would be great. An added bonus obviously would be the need  to "learn" to fight strategically and tactically. Finally "discovering" a varied way to complete quests and have conversations would be a great thing for my PC to learn while wandering this lush an open(ish) world. :P

First a foremost, DA:O....so awesome I bought it full price twice (one broke long story....lol), DA2 was lackluster in my honest opinion. I can appreciate what Bioware were trying to do with the IP and take a different take on the story with Varric cut scenes to advance through the years, but if I'm going to spend all these hours playing a Roleplaying game then can I Roleplay. Felt like BW was holding my hand all thw way through DA2.

Sorry about the moaning but it does have a point just bare with me.

I'd like to see DA3 but more DA:O than DA2, looking at everyone elses posts think thats the general jist of things. I'm most likely going to get bashed for say this but I personally don't need every choice I made in the previous two games to be continued or brought to a conclusion....as insane as that might sound to some poeople I have my reasons and they are as follows;

  • Putting all those choices and dialog opinions or having a non speaking character just lingering the background so some can say "wasn't he/she the grey warden that..." will make the story more weaker
  • Having a set of choices from DA:O and DA2 that compliment the story from DA3 and add to the arcing story rather than hindering it would be better.
As for the setting Orlais seems to be the most popular and I have to agree, would be great change from the medival age setting or the first 2 games. Plus new locations....no repeats please.

I enjoyed the action spin on the combat system from DA2 however I enjoyed DA:O's system a lot more.

I'd like the multi starting storys like from DA:O to come back, maybe not such a large scale. As long as they fit in to the story directly, the characters directly involved with the story not thrust into the conflict because of a family member. Plus story that reflects your status in game, if I'm playing a nobleman I don't want to feel like a glorified errand boy or if I'm a grey warden commander similar to Awakening expansion then give us some mechanic that gives us choices that a commander needs to make (A cross between Fable 3 and Assassin Creed: Revelations, sorry to use other games as reference points but its easier to discribe what I'm try to say that way).Image IPB

More of blood mages lore and the pro's and con's of going down that path, more demons too.

I enjoyed the PAX presentation about "possible" interchangable armor between characters but I'd love to see customisable weapons, not just enchantments but visual changes aswell.

(SPOILER: if it still applies for DA II) I liked the World at War ending of DA II, so getting into the consequences of the mage uprising would be great. However, there was too little of the Darkspawn threat in DA II (which was strange since Origins completely revolved around it), so basically, an in-depth dive into a Thedas at war while still having to deal (a lot) with Darkspawn.

I second this. From the first time I looked at this map, the southwestern corner is what has intrigued me the most.
I'd love to visit the frozen Sundered Sea and those weird Sulfur Lakes. :)

- I want to meet firts elves and discover there cities(in shaddow)
- The truth about Flemeth(who she is and what she wants)
- What happend to Morrigan and her(warden's) child
- I want to know more about Blight, maybe see parts of the first one(memories in shadow)
- I want to learn more about Black City, maybe see it.
P.S. I don't want "Skyrim" in DA3. And I want atmosphere from DAO
P.S.2. And here is what I really want from DA3

What would I like to see:

1. Actual roleplay with our choices having real consequences. I get not every choice is game shattering, but the big ones should matter.

2. More exploration. Let us go to areas that we have not been able to in the past.

What I don't want to see:
For the love of everything that is holy keep the MP part out of the SP part. I know some people really like MP and I don't have anything personally against although I don't like it. But please don't do like ME3 and tie the SP outcome to the MP.

I want to learn more about the racial tensions. Dwarves were notoriously absent from DA2 (with only a handful of named & voiced Dwarves in the 'base' game), and as such Kirkwall tended to be just about Humans, Qunari (for 2/3rds of the game) and to a lesser extent, Elves (and, on top of that, little was made of the distinctions between 'City' Elves and Dalish).

In DA3 or any further games, I want to see that aspect explored. One of the strengths of DA:O lay in how different people responded to you based on your race (though not as much as one would like).

It's entirely possible to bring back the different origins and fully-voice them (Saints Row 2 and 3, for example, have a number of different voices for the game), and if you did so then the racial tension aspect could be explored in a whole new way. People might disbelieve you for being an Elf (meaning speech checks are harder, for example), or you might be able to be more persuasive as a Dwarf (making them easier), leaving human as the neutral option.

So yeah. Racial tension. You did it in DA:O, you narrowed it to Humans vs Qunari in DA2, bring it back to the wider picture.

What the Dragon Age series really need is a real open world. Dragon Age 1 was an amazing game, but the lack of the feeling that you were in a real open world made the experience less intense. Instead of teleporting to places, let the player find his way to those places through the map. It doesn't need to be completely open like World of Warcraft or Skyrim (Too open is also not good!), but get rid of the teleporting! Let us travel through regions, in order to reach other regions. This is greatly improve the experience. This is why Dungeon Siege 1, Dragon Age 1, Diablo etc. were great games. Good luck, and looking forward to DA3! But I am not going to buy it blindly this time, but wait for gameplay videos first. DA2 was a big mistake for me.

Good luck!

Draganta - Student Interaction Design & User Experience Tester

Edit: 1 more thing, keep the awesome combat system of DA2, it was really dynamic and action-filled! Maybe the animations need a slightly more realistic touch, but the system was really awesome.

I would like to see::

1) that would remove ugly redesign elves and have made their beautiful, sexual and attractive what constantly repeat in game but that does not see players
2) realistic animation of fight, instead of jumps on 30 foots with a sword which is more for the character
3) more modern drawing and the live world
4) free dialogues with party members
5) Antiva, Zevran (not in ugly redesign!) and Antivans Crow
6) I hope to see a return to all RPG elements in the next game.
7) Multiple background and races choices for the Hero

Good luck to you in your work!

1) Diverging paths. While Dragon Age: Origins had a set overall plot there was a lot of freedom to tackle the plot points in whichever order you liked, as well as a myriad of defining choices within each subsection. By contrast Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 have felt far too pre-defined to the point of me feeling robbed of even the illusion of choice. A great example from DA2 is in Act 3 where several NPCs will hollar about how my Hawke was working for Meredith in spite of her never once supporting the Templars. Things like that strain the believability of the setting.

2) Strategic combat: I did not enjoy the arcade-feeling, click, spamming combat in DA2. It felt overly simplified as did the excess gore, backflipping rogues and lack of armor for half the followers. By all means, keep the responsiveness tight, so I can give an order and it will be carried out immediately, but move away from action/clickspam as the default combat mode. The combat in Dragon Age: Origins was good because it asked you to learn the systems and appropriately killed you if you just ran in, spamming abilities. As it should be in a party-based RPG. So please, go back to this form of combat design - not saying you can't make alterations or tweaks to the various subsystems in play but at its core, Dragon Age is about strategy, not click spamming and twitch reflexes, combat-wise.

3) Diverse locations and characters. I will make no secret of my dislike for Kirkwall and the surrounding area in DA2. The art direction felt uninspired, and the use of the same color tones everywhere really made it feel like a completely uninteresting place. The caves and surrounding area...well overly repetative, as has been said many times. If you're sending the player to a new place or a new culture, please ensure that the locations and characters we meet reflect that culture, instead of just feeling like the same people we had back in Ferelden. Part of this is the engine's ability to realize these settings and the need to ensure that it can in fact do so.

 I will add:
  • an open world something akin to Skyrim or Kingdom of Amalur would be interesting instead of compartmentalised areas that load up each time you hit the transition trigger
  • I don't mind having the main character voiced - but if possible provide voice variations? I know this would involve multiple actors doing the same lines, but....or if not having main char fully voices, little phrases, similar to how Baldur's Gate had it
  • I would like to see more on Flemmeth and Morrigan. They are very intriguing characters within the Dragon Age world :)
And finally - please DON'T make it an online required game like Diablo 3! LOL
