I would like to see more to the politics in Thedas. Both domestic and international.

Is there any alliances, and how are the different countries ruled - monarchi, republic, theocracy? I would like to see some political maneuvering, plotting and stuff like that.

I apologize if any of this sounds like trolling, but I am completely sincere in it. I think the best thing you guys could do going forward is completely disregard DA2. I am reasonably certain that of the DA fans you have left, an overwhelming majority of us liked Origins and disliked DA2. So the best thing you could do is completely move past everything we didn't like, which shouldn't be hard considering most of DA2 was spent durdling around one town and having very little impact on anything until the last half hour.

Instead, and I know this is going to sound contrary to what I just said, you should return to the ways of Origins, where things mattered and continued to matter. That means answering all the questions brought up in Origins and ignored in DA2. That means un-retconning everything you retconned in DA2 for story's sake(like including certain party members who could end up dead even if they were dead). That means making every decision you made in Origins actually reflect somehow in the world. Continuity in all things really sells the world, in my opinion. Or at least that's one thing that Origins had going for it.

Oh, and no more wave combat, Bioware. Please.

I would like to see a more social character personality and with a more reactive surounding with the people around the main character. In Dragon Age 2 while walking by people you would normally hear rumors which is still really awesome, it would be cool though if the suronding people were like " WOH IS THAT THE CHAMPION OF KIRKWALL?" Also if the main character could talk to their compainions when they want to would be great again like in Origins instead of haveing to wait for them to talk to hawk all the time. I also love would love to see new compainions as well as some old ones ( Alistiar, Sebastian, Morrigan? ) <3

Focusing only on the topic at hand, of what I would like to learn and discover:

Dragon Age 2 showcased a lot about Mages and Templars, and how their struggle affects the society that surrounds them... Having those covered, I would like to learn more about the Qunari. Their peoples, their homeland, I would like to discover how they function as a society; learn pretty much everything relating to the theme of their existence... Also Red Lyrium. What is it? How does it work?
On the other hand, I would also like to know more about who or what Flemeth really is, as well as Morrigan and where she is, and what happened to our bastard god-child (and how he ended up on Mass Effect 3 /jk). Would also really love to know more about the ancient elves, before they were turned into slaves for the humans, as well as Tevinter, how it worked and why it fell. Some information on the Old Gods, and how Dragons became extinct (I imagine all of this would be very closely related to Tevinter) would be fantastic.

Hi Chris

First off, did you say future Dragon Age games? Did I get that right?

Yep. If you read the blog we refer to potential computer games, P&P games, Facebook games, etc. Lots of possibilities for the future all still to be explored.

Minor offtop, sorry for that but I have to write this - Dragon Age IP is one of the best RPG games that was ever created. Facebook games for that? Riiiiight. Isn't the IP a LITTLE to good for making it appear like a pathetic rundown for our cash or even time if it's gonna be F2P with micro-transactions or whatnot? Do not make a hell-like smiley face, just make a damn good Dragon Age 3. And... do we really wanna books, comic books, soap, bread, etc? What the HELL is that? Another Simpsons?<_<

-Bigger maps that includes Anderfels, Starkhaven, Tevinter and Antiva (or the ability to explore Thedas as a whole).
-I would like to find out what happens to Hawke through a more interactive method (DLC or expansion).
-The Black City/Golden City. I am truly interested in knowing more about what happened, more about the Magisters that entered the Golden City--are there more like Corypheus? (or just more random information).
-The Old Gods. Maybe more history on the past Blights.
-Morrigan and her child.
-More about Flemeth and where she is/what is she planning.
-Where did my Warden run off to?
-Discover more about past characters from Origins, Awakening and DA2. Maybe bring some of them back as playable/LI characters if they were not involved with either Hawke or the Warden. Alistair, Sebastian, Leliana, Morrigan, etc.
-Pirates, maybe exploring the sea?
-Discover more myths/sacred relics? I really like how tangible the Maker, Andraste and the Golden/Black City are.
-Maybe include the Divine in the games (with that said, I would like to know more about the Black Divine and the Imperial Chantry).
-Include Qunari/Werewolf as a playable race.
-More on Dragons and maybe make them appear less?
-Baby griffons. Yes? Please? Maybe?

Let me begin by saying this:

I understand that this is (hypothetically) DA3 we're talking about, and not BG3.

Nonetheless, let me continue by saying this:

DA3 - or whatever future project - needs to be more like BG2.

I liked DAO, and loathed DA2.  But even DAO at times felt like an interactive storybook adventure.  There was a great plot, and there was great art and design, but it wasn't enough of a GAME.  We don't want to just watch.  We want to PLAY.  In specific:

Character Customization:  I prefer the DnD system, but I know you guys aren't going to use that.  Still, there should be more than three classes.  There should be more than three races.  There should be multiple subclasses within classes.  There should be way more spells.  Your first spell - bolt, or whatever it's called - should be cooler than just a slightly brighter / bigger version of your staff's regular magic missle.  There should be more non-combat skills.  Variety, variety variety.

Inventory:  I was super pumped to see you took seriously the complaints about not customizing NPC equipment.  Good work.  Still, there must be more.  We shouldn't see the same sword or dagger constantly dropped by the same monster.  In the inventory screen, it would be nice to have maybe artwork or a 3D image of the item.  I also liked the idea you guys had regarding texture and color customization.  Yes please.

Monsters:  More variety.  Period.  I can't complain about the artistic or stylistic aspects of any of the tenets of your games-- they're all top notch.  We just need more.  This also applies to . . .

Locations:  Yes.  More.  And not recycled.  It wouldn't hurt to maybe have two or three major cities.  I know you're not building a sandbox game, but again, look to BG2 for inspiration.  It was far from sandboxish, but still felt big.

Complexity:  This game should be hard for a twelve year old to just pick up and play.  This is not Call of Duty.  This is an RPG.  It's a THINKING man or woman's game.  So, of course, I don't mean just difficult for difficult's sake-- I mean complex character development and strategic combat.

This was less informative than I had intended, but I'm in a rush.  Keep up the good work and thanks for hearing our suggestions.

By far, the main thing that I would like for DA3 would be to have more than 2 bars for your spells and actions.  I play on the ps3 and the fact that I am limited to 6 spells/actions with my characters, without digging through 3 menus on the popup wheel is horrible.  I honestly have limited my builds to just 6 spells, or 6 actions with my Rogue, and then just enhancing those abilities, because of how obtrusive it is to have to go through the wheel during every single fight.

There are 4 shoulder buttons on the PS3 controller, with two of them being used just to switch your team members.  That can easily be mapped to the left or right D-pad buttons, and free them up for more spell slots with L1 and R1.

All that being said, I was a huge fan of Dragon Age 1, and also greatly enjoyed Dragon Age 2, and feel that all the vile and bad wrap it seemed to get from people was a bit over board.  Yes, it had a lot of repeated stages, which was jarring after going into the same warehouse 6 times, and yes, I do agree that it would have been nice to get out of the city more often.

But overall what I wanted from a Bioware game was there.   Great characters, that all had well thought out storylines and personalities, that didn't fall into being typecast.   Outside of the emo elf :)  But thats just me.

I do want to see Morrigon's storyline continued, as that was the biggest kicker at the end of the game, and I love the idea of getting to play at the  "god baby" if the timeline jumps forward, though some may argue your leaning too close to Baldur's Gate in that idea.

Grey Wardens were great, bringing them back in to the storyline would work well.

Anyways, thats my biggest request, let me actually use the spells that are in the game for me to use without having to dig through a action wheel on my PS3.   Everything else has been great so far.

What I forgot in my first post: I would love to see what Dalish facial tatoos actually mean (what design represents what god). I would also love to discover that the over-long elven necks and zombie-like darkspawn in Dragon Age II were only bad descriptions by Varric. What my Warden saw with his own eyes in Origins was far cooler.:D

Oh, and as I was reading through some of the other comments, I thought I'd also throw in that, I would love the idea to get to play the game with friends, like we did back in the Neverwinter Nights days. I never understood how Bioware actually went backwards, when NWN had a fully playable campaign that you and 3 of your friends could go through together, and then removed that idea from both DA1 and DA2....

DA1 was the only game I ever got my wife to play without me actually popping the game in and putting it in her hands....she loved the darker atmospher of it, and we both are really big George R.R. Martin fans, to the point my new lab is going to be solid white and named Ghost :), so she got really big into the idea of the typical elf, dwarf, etc being re-worked into elfs being an example of a civilization struggling to know how to operate without being slaves, or the Dwarves and their blatant caste system.

My point here, as I am rambling, is this is the first game she ever played on her own, and I love the idea of getting to play through the storyline together.

I have been enjoying the ME3 multiplayer quite a bit, but I think for DA2 the co-op campaign would be the best route, let you and 3 friends control the party memebers and play through the storyline together, like the old days.

Whatever you do will be great just please no skyrim-y stuff.  i love the Elder Scroll series but dragon age is more superior.  if you want to know what to do with the map look no further than DA:O, Mass Effect 1-3 or even the Witcher 2.
As far as story, let me play a character that is voiced, has a personality, and is engaging, ala Hawke, Sheperd, Minsc, Geralt.  I would rather play a personable relatable character than a blank slate.  Also lets find out what is up with Morrigan and Flemeth, and Leliana.  Also what happened to my partymembers from origins and DAII.  i wanna know.

No worries though, i know that you will do a great job!

Combat closer to Witcher 2 for starters. More tactical yet still with manual attacking and with the face buttons still being skills.

The main character doesn't need to talk. Origins told an amazing story and gave me a character I really enjoyed molding to my own liking. In DA2 the dialogue for the hero was so much more restrictive and the options felt rather samey. You basically were nice, sarcastic, or a douche and that was the end of it.

Maybe have Hawke be a party member molded after your DA2 decisions but go back to controling the Warden.

As for plot...I'd like to see the Morrigan/Flemeth/God Child tidbit come to a head.

How about it making it possible to get ALL Pre-order items without buying multiple copies of the game?

I pre-ordered Signature edition for DA2.   After that pre-order period was over, a bonus download item was announced for Best Buy (Amulet of the Ashes).

I couldn;t change my order to Best Buy without losing my Signature edition.

At the very least STOP making exclusive items, or make them timed exclusives.

Too much to read! I would most like to see what happens next. How the events at the end of Dragon Age 2 change the world of Dragon Age 1. For the past, I would be thrilled to see the forming of the Mage/Templar set up.

 - I would really like to see the continuation of the story involving Morrigan, Flemeth, and Morrigan's child (if players went down that path).  What do Flemeth and Morrigan want to accomplish?  Are they at odds with how the future should play out?

-What happened to the Warden and Hawke? Why did they disappear?

-I'm really interested to see Orlais (it is the most powerful nation in Thedas and a lot of very interesting story elements seem to be building in that area.) Also, Orlais' ties to the Chantry and their stance on the Mage-Templar War would be extremely interesting to experience.

-The Tevinter Imperium would be another great place to see.  Their society is very different from the places we've visited so far in the DA universe. Their response to the current Chantry conflict would also be very interesting to see. Perhaps they will make a move to cripple Orlais and regain world dominance?

-I'd like to see how Alistair is doing. Making him a major part of the story again would just make things better all around, I think.

-Finally, regardless of what story you choose to tell, give us meaningful choices!!!! It feels like none of the choices in DA 2 really caused a lasting effect on anything, just a few differences in dialogue.  Even the ending was essentially just a dialogue change!  Make DA 3 more akin to DA:O when it comes to the decisions we have to make; the choices need to have meaningful story impact that we don't just know about but that we and the world our characters are in can personally experience the consequences of

Well, besides the inevitable Mage vs. Templar war, I'd have to say I'd like to know more about the Black City. Finding out it was already black before the magister got there was very intriguing.

Also, I would love to see more on the qunari and learn about what is really going on at Weisshaupt. It sounds like something big is coming on the horizon, and I eagerly await to see what is about to unfold.

Three things I forgot to mention:

1. Character Portraits (i.e., artwork, and not just a circle with the avatar's head in it).
2. More than 4 party members. I saw someone post earlier that it is useless to have so many companions if you can only take 2 or 3 at a time. I agree. Let's have 5 or 6 party members. This is itself requires two things: (a) the ability to zoom out further, and (B) bigger areas to walk around in.
3. A more interactive journal, which could include all the codex stuff you all love so much. More importantly, though, it could have user notes. Why would we need user notes? Because it's a big complex world with a lot going on, and you might forget where someone was, or where some place you wanted to explore was, because you went off to take care of something else! That's a real RPG, folks!

Thanks again.

Honestly, I think the best thing would be to look at games such as Final Fantasy XII and Xenoblade.  Games with one giant interconnected world.  Non completely nonlinear like Skyrim, but with a sense of exploration and mystery.  DA2 was very claustrophobic in this regard.

I think you should focus the most on the combat and the world-building first and foremost.  The story and characters can be top notch but Bioware is a video game company.  I would just ignore what people are talking about what chatracters they want, just have YOU guys decide what the characters and story are and how important they are to the story instead of shoehorning in cameos with little to no relevance.  But the combat needs an overhaul big time.  Make it so you have to think about your strategy for important boss battles, intead of mashing "A" over and over.  Give the classes available more versalility.

A minor thing, but don't make the romances available to all genders.  That smacks of cutting corners, especially when the dialogue was the exact same for both genders.

Lastly, ADD POLEARMS.  Thedas is long overdue for them.

As a last bit of housekeeping, the purpose of these exercises isn’t crowd sourcing or soliciting your game dev concepts (keep those close in case you want to make a game someday!). This should remain a discussion between BioWare and fans about what you loved about Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2—what this franchise means to you.

Each monthly question is also not meant to be a debate so please keep things open enough for everyone to contribute their thoughts.

I thought it was about what we wanted to discover about the world, not what we loved about the last two games?  Asking for nothing but positive feedback seems less than useful.

To answer the specific question, I'd like more on the dark city, the creation of the darkspawn, the corruption of the old gods. What actually happened? Or, if that's never to me known, at least more hints along those lines.  I'd like some indication that what Hawke did actually mattered - ie. that any of my decisions made the least bit of difference.  Did picking the templars or mages actually matter?  It would be nice if it made a difference.  Or was Hawke just a thug whose entire life was on rails?

I don't have much to add to this thread but I wanted to make mention of the combat mechanics of Dragon Age 2, specifically in the console version. My main point is that they were absolutely perfect, and I hope the next DA console game will maintain the ability to keep the game paused while giving orders to your whole party. Also the addition of specific "move to point" commands was a major improvement compared to DA: Origins's console versions.

That said, the one criticism I had about DA2's design was that enemies spawned in waves, and often behind your party, which rendered moot and tactical positioning you'd set for your party. The idea of wave spawning is certainly interesting in that it requires the player/party to remain on their toes, but I do think it would be cool to see a stronger focus on individual encounter design, rather than just dropping the party into a bowl and having them attacked from all sides at once.
