So he conspired with Loghain and Howe to have his own family killed so that he could gain land that was already his by birthright.
Genius.

Only a true tactical mastermind could think of such a brilliant plan! Nobody would suspect him!

Amusing but I'll point out he's definitely not a Rogue as he is shown with a sword and shield.
Not that kind of Rogue...and um, the kind your thinking of can wear shields.
Sure. And Warriors can wear mage robes, doesn't make them a Mage.

No, I still say Morrigan. I felt used/suckered/cheated in more ways than one.

No, it's Fergus. Who do you think impregnates Morrigan if a male PC or Alistair/Loghain won't do it?
That's right, Fergus! He's actually a secret Grey Warden you know, he stole some archdemon blood years ago when Duncan was drunk. See that's how he knows Duncan should have his eye on you and not Ser Gilmore.
If you think about it, Fergus is clearly responsible for every bad event in Dragon Age.

I can't believe I didn't see it before. When he told me to look after mother it's like he KNEW she would need to be looked after. How could I have been so blind.
As much as Morrigan is a bear I imagine.
No.

Well it'd certainly explain the smell of her unmentionables.

Lol, All this evil Fergus assumption is so Thin. But if you look at risk and reward, you know it doesn't hold up, no matter how much circumstantial evidence you pin it on. The guy risks the end of the world, and also risking getting himself killed in the process if there is a slight error in the excution of the plan. The chance of him dying during the excution of his grand plan is like 99% if you just think about it. And he went through all this trouble for what????????
The terynie of the Couslands.... Which will be his anyways after his father dies and in a much better condition I might add. If he can't wait for his father to die naturally, there is alot of other much much safer and much much easier way to accomplish what he want. Like a simple dose of potent poison.
Or if Fergus turns out to be the real Arch demon, that would change things. Else i don't see how he can be this stupid to think up a plan this brillant.

Yes and he even refuses to gain a new land at the end, Arl Howe's, the arling of Amaranthine, and gives it to the Grey Wardens!
He obviously wanted land and power!
