I never saw that part because I railed Ser Catheryn( or w/e is her name) and her pathetic henchmens. So I was wondering if I missed out on good XP or a cool part of the story?

Hey now - what happens in jail, stays in jail. Image IPB

But seriously - rather than spoil one of the more enjoyable sequences in the game, I would recommend you play yourself and see what you missed. It's definitely worth it!

The jail segment is one of my favourite parts of the game. So if you have an autosave or a save game from just before the Cauthrien fight, I'd reload and try the jail segment.

Well it is a groovy little mission.

You can either choose to go nuts and fight everyone, or you can go for the stealthy approach and wear a disguise. I know this is a spoiler forum, but I don't want to say too much as you should really give it a crack.

Yes, you most certainly did miss a cool (and hilarious) part of the story. I advise reloading from an earlier save and giving it a try. Multiple times. In fact, save RIGHT before the fight.

I'd advise you to google "Salad Tossing 101" for a full rundown on what to expect.

You can seduce the jailor with persuasion and have a naked fight with him.

I'm wondering all the different options available- so please spoil them.

As a mage I was able to break out on my own (fake illness). I had no trouble solo'ing the entire place. Only when I got close to the doors did my party come to "save" me. only I didn't get to choose which ones. I ended up with Morrigan who wasn't levelled up (never used her), and Zevran (whom I was using, but he can't compare to my mage). But at that point I had killed everything except the mobs that those 2 npc's brought in. My first playthru I killed Cath.

My current 3rd playthru I guess I'll have to explore the other options. But that's a long ways off.

The dungeon scene was also one of my favorite parts of the game, so if you still have an old save I also recommend going back and surrendering.

If you choose to surrender no one recognizes the queen in her disguise, and only you are dragged off to the dungeon. Ser Cauthrien lets everyone else go. The Queen also doesn't betray you here, like she does if you choose to fight. She'll only betray you and accuse you of abducting her here if you fight, since she thinks that is the wrong move.

Once you are hauled off to the dungeon you get a cutscene of guards dragging you down a stone hallway in your underwear, and dumping you in your cell. A prisoner in the cell next to you makes a comment about you looking like you've been roughed up, and asks why you are there. During a brief conversation you get the choice to say you plan on escaping, or that you are confident your friends will break you out. If you go the 'friends' route you'll take control of two of your party members as they try to break you out, and if you go the other route you'll be on your own until you are almost out of the prison.

The friends route is a lot more fun because there is a lot of dialogue between whatever party members you choose. I went with Alistair and Morrigan, and the dialogue between those two here is just as funny as it is in other parts of the game.

Oh wow, I missed all of the combos with Alistair on my last playthroughs >< He was always with me when I surrendered to Cauthrien and so he was also captured (although that means that you don't have to solo your way out if you choose to fight your way out instead of letting friends rexcue you).

I recommend sending Ohgren and Zevran to save you.

Also, has anyone else experienced a bug in this section where in some of the cutscenes, only 1 of the 2 people who come to break you out are actually IN the cutscene? You don't even get an invisible voice, just 1 character talking (and so you miss out on whatever the other was supposed to say) =/

Also, if you have Alistair while you were captured, he will be in the jail cell naked with you. There will not be any prisoner in the neighbouring cell.

I compared a save where I wiped out Ser C with one where Zev and Morrigan rescued me. Zev ended up with 231 more XP for the rescue and I maxed out his influence which required a +6. When you add in the second Ser C fight that's probably an extra 500 XP for going quietly as opposed to fighting. Loot's probably about the same and if you want the visited every area in the game achievement then you probably need to surrender (since I'm guessing the second time you visit the fort it's a different area).

If you want the most XP loot, you should kill every enemy except for one archer, loot everyone, let the archer kill the entire party and then go through the rescue. You would end up with two summer swords as well.

I had Morrigan and [dog] rescue me and let the dog do all the talking. He was very persuasive. ;)

Didn't find Morrigan and Leliana all that funny, since Morrigan couldn't talk her way out of a wet paper sack being the socially inept dunce that she is.

THAT'S what I've been doing wrong.  I take Alistair everywhere as he's generally my best tank.  He's always in jail with me, I have yet to be alone!
