I've never played any of the Torchlight or Diablo games and to be honest, the gameplay footage doesn't look very appealing. In fact, it's hard for me to tell any of these games apart at first glance.
What am I missing?

Also at the time, it was one of the first games with significant voice acting that I played. There were no dialogue options or anything, but some of the voice acting was well done (with others being done very poorly). The story overall was mature and interesting to me.
MMOs were not big at the time, so Diablo had a large in-game community and I made a lot of Diablo friends. People made clans and kept in touch via e-mail.
I don't know if any of this will carry over today, or if by today's standards the gameplay will be tired, but I'm still excited. It also helps that Diablo fans have waited 10+ years for a sequal, so there was tons of time for interest to grow.

I usually like to do a powerful brawn class first and I've always loved Barbarian in Diablo games. Monk was melee but he felt very unique in the beta. Apparently Barbarians get the highest magic find too, unless Blizzard changed that. But can't help but getting worried playing a Barbarian will be a balance problem on Inferno. Melee classes always get the shaft on harder difficulties. They're the first in the conflict and the first to get destroyed lol...
I miss a Paladin or Amazon...seriously. I hope their first expansion brings one of those back. Or a Assassin. Don't suggest Demon Hunter...I didn't like the way they played in beta...

I miss the Paladin to, that was my favorite class to play in Diablo 2.
Paladain, Druid and Necromancer are coming back in an expansion. You heard it here first!

Witch Doctor? Demon Hunter?
Still can't decide what to start with. Leaning towards Wizard. Or Witch Doctor. Or Demon Hunter.

Abandon your hopes about paladin, amazon or necromancer because we have monk(and templar), demon hunter(and scoundrel) and witch doctor.
Im guessing a rogue type melee character and something similar to druid shapeshifter.
Edit: BTW how many D3 threads we have

Apparently people are struggling to log on at the moment because of server maintenance or sever full capacity or something related to servers. Is this where games are heading? Where we have to wait for the privilege of playing a game (and a single-player at that) that people just spent £40/$60 on?
Guess I'll wait for the price to fall a bit I guess.

3 hours in with Barbarian at the moment, too early to judge it but i've had fun so far.
Barbarians "feeling" is so powerfull that you feel the force of his blows and grass/vegetation beneath his feet move with every hit.
I really have no love for fighter type characters but had a blast with playing Barbarian in beta.
You can say anything about D3 (and some of the concerns are valid) but this game is helluva fun.

Yeah exactly it's really addictive and i have to admit i've got a fondness for leap, just jump up and crash down on foes is really damn satisfying, can't wait to unlock whirlwind though.Cyberarmy wrote...

I want to get this game, I really do. But there's a lot of business practices and decisions I just can't agree to at the moment. The main being constant online connection (for a single player game...why?)

For ME Diablo 2 never was a single player game. I played it once offline and moved then into the closed battle net.
I can understand Blizzards decision to limit play to the imho "best way possible" but I also understand people that would like to play it offline.
Also I guess the server problems will be more or less a one time issue caused by 2 Million people loggin in at the same time. I only got in 40 minutes after start ^^.

I hope it isn't like this when I wake up tomorrow.
@the persona asking about internet connection. Is that a big deal since you're always connected? It's a necessary sacrifice to prevent the problems Diablo 2 had. By putting everything on a server, this game won't be hacked within 2 days. No more duping or hacking items. Nothing is clientside anymore.

I mean lets say 3 million people spammed log in yesterday/today. Thats 1/3 of wows population and not of 3 millions spamed at same time. Asia started 6-7 hours before Europe.

Also I don't think that once logged in, diablo (or better the battle net) servers can be full as you don't log into "one" server, it will be the same as SC2, where I at least can't remember serious issues or waiting times after day one.
