It's all about streamlining these days...

But yeah, the game is still pretty fun in spite of it. Though I have quite a few friends to play with.

I don't think the gameplay is repetitive. You are constantly gaining new skills, fighting new enemies and there are 5 completely distinct classes. Yes, Gauntlet was repetitive, but you didn't have those things. The appeal is the gameplay, if you don't like that you won't like the game.

"Gaining new skills".

How is skill distribution? Are the trees nice and complex?

There are no trees.

Should check out Path of Exile   www.youtube.com/watch

Holy crap...I don't even...how is a skill tree like that even possible without serious bugs/polish/balance issues lol?

I hope that game doesn't have serious PvP...lol.

Am I the only one that gets that major stutter bug? It was present in beta and Blizzard said they were going to fix it for retail...well they didn't. And apparently it's still a huge problem because they have a massive thread on the forums about it. No blue will respond either. It makes the game almost unplayable in parts because you get so much stutter lag. The worst thing about it is Blizzard lied about fixing it and they even said they had a fix in beta but wasn't going to release it until retail...

I had zero stutter, only once game stopped when i decimate 40-50 mobs in a quick succession with 2-3 spells, for 1 sec.
no other problems about gameplay so far.
Only problem for me is connection, if i drop while playing (great thanks to my crappy internet provider) it took 10-15 min to get back.

Why do you hope that?

Anyway, here's another vid by TotalHalibut (2:24 for the skill tree):

The game's basically kickstarting as well, as you could see here (there's a bit of a manifesto going on that page also - like how the devs are 100% opposed to "pay2win"). ;)

That is certainly an interesting skill tree!

However, the gameplay footage looks repetitive as hell, like some sort of scrolling zombie browser game.

The gameplay was from the very first hour of the game, you don't get much of variety at all at that point.

He has made a new video which shows gameplay several patches and just 1-2 gameplay hours later.

Also, it basically aims for a "desperate" landscape and atmosphere. :)

You could get a very enjoyable experience of a "nightmare" in D1 and 2. I'm fairly certain this will be also the case with Path of Exile, though to a lesser degree - the art-work is a bit too "grounded" in realism, so it cannot probably exceed the heroics of D2.

I don't hope that lol.

I'm just saying...a skill tree that big is going to have some MAJOR balance issues, especially in PvP.

So far Diablo 3 seems simple but fun. It was pretty much what I expected, and I'm happy with it. That said, I have only played it about 3 hours at this point.

Blizzard won't be going crazy trying to balance PvP as they do in Starcraft or WOW.  That's probably why the skill trees can be that large.

Same here.  I supplement it with other games when I need a break from constant left clicking.

Oh yeah. I play a monk and it's the worst for that. I finished act 1 last night with a friend and thought it was pretty enjoyable.

Once you get past the connectivity issues it's not a bad game. I just don't seem to be enjoying it nearly as much as I did with Diablo 1 and 2 though. Even some clones like Titan's Quest was more entertaining. Either I have grown away from action rpgs or Diablo 3 just hasn't grabbed me yet.

Played for five hours last night. Severs restarted once when they applied a patch but there was a message in game about that and it was for ten minutes.

The single player campaign on normal is very easy. I died once in Act 1.

Gameplay us very smooth and responsive. Environments are good looking and varied. Skills are more diverse than I was led to believe but still not as satisfying as the skill/power trees in Diablo, Titan Quest, or Torchlight.

Crafting is an interesting money sink and is the main way I've ended up equipping my monk.

The story is... familiar. Act 1 is Act 1 of Diablo. Act 2 is Act 2 of Diablo II. The plot reveals are so obvious I feel mildly insulted. (Can you guess who the mysterious stranger who fell from the heavens is?! Can you guess who Leah's father is?!) But it's well done and the cinimatics are pretty.

I'm enjoying myself.

This is enough reason for me not to buy D3. It's a waste of my time if it feels easy.

I think they are spectacular. Each class has 22 active skills with 5 runes whcih can do anything between making a minor  improvement to completely changing the skill. That is 110 skills to choose from (didn't count unruned because they are almost always strictly worse). Plus 16 passives. And they are fairly well balanced. The number of viable builds is probably about 30 times what you had in D2. It also encourages experimentation, this has caught a lot of flak but allowing infinite free respecs is good. There is simply far too much variety to work without having that.

So yes, although it starts a little slowly and has a very gentle learning curve the game quite quickly becomes much more complex in terms of character builds than D2.

You have to pay real money to use legendary. This is outrageous.

For normal you shouldnt have many problems till the end of act 3. Unless you stand in poison clouds and fire.

The difficulty starts to ramp up dramatically in the hard difficulties. The big boss fights have been a breeze compared to some of the champion and elite packs you find roaming the maps.

The test team has yet to beat it in Inferno
