For those of you who ended up with a Viscount Hawke, did you come up with any reason(s) why s/he would have to leave the position and run/disappear?

Nope. No reason.

Probably, he finally realize that he shouldn't stay in Kirkwall in the first place.

( I've stop reasoning with Hawke's action after ACT I. He/she has never become my PC. More like a NPC who I get to direct behind the curtain like I direct any characters in Dynasty Warriors. Thankfully, future PC will have more character agency and player agency. )

He/she probably ran from Flemeth. Everything is because of Flemeth.

S/he could no longer bear to live near the visible reminder of the genocide s/he committed. Haunted by the ghosts of the mages s/he slaughtered, s/he fled Kirkwall.

Alternately, the grateful populace that raised him/her to his/her exalted status soon realized that with the mages dead, *they* were now the most vulnerable and least protected denizens of the city. They drove the viscount out before the murderous bully got any ideas.

I kid, I kid.

The Seeker tells Varric what she knows of Hawke. It is very much at odds with Varric's version. So, why does Varric only know the true story? How did it get so twisted? I think the blame for the Circles falling, the templars rebelling, the world becoming a mess was laid at Hawke's feet. All the good things Hawke did were forgotten and people used Hawke for a scapegoat. Then I can only imagine that threats were made against Hawke and he/she had to flee. My best guess. Or Hawke decided it was time to retire and live out a peaceful life.

This one thing I think Dragon 2 failed at, the lack of different endings.

Mage Supporter: Hawke (and maybe your romance)run away to fuel the Mage Rebellion in Thedas.

Templar Supporter: Hawke remains in Kirkwall as Viscount (romance stays with them)to help stop the Mage Rebellion through out Thedas.

I think they already had an idea for Dragon Age 3 and did not care about if anything made sense in Dragon Age 2. The goal is to get Dragon Age's 3 story no matter the cost. And they wonder why Origins succeed and Dragon Age 2 did not.

All Dragon Age 2 did was raise more questions simply because half the sh!t that happened did not make sense.

I swear I think Swiss cheese has less holes then DA 2 had.

"Artistic integrity".

Why DA2 and ME3 have to force different endings into the same one, I have no idea. (or do I not?)

Well...my Viscount Hawke was my evil Hawke, so she was probably run out of town by an angry mob for being such a big jerk.

Or she just got bored of running a city instead of being out killing people and having fun, so she left.

Might have been summoned somewhere to deal with something big (something to do with the Warden's perhaps?) Or maybe someone was after him/her after killing Meredith, it's possible that Hawke could still get into trouble for that even though there were witnesses proving that she was mad. Or maybe Hawke went to help out with the Mage/Templar conflict... or was kidnapped?

Hawke played a part in the rebellion whether he/she meant to or not (I'll say she). She killed the Knight Commander and was buddy-buddy with the guy who blew up the Chantry, possibly even aiding him in gathering ingredients to build the bomb that wrecked it. Afterward, she couldn't possibly know how news would spread (word of mouth from Kirkwall to Val Royeaux could end up like a really bad version of that elementary school game "telephone") but she knows that the Chantry will eventually knock on her door and demand an accounting. Possibly a very angry, pain-inducing, exalted-march-level-of-fervor accounting. If she doesn't trust them to hear her side, and I definitely wouldn't, she's probably thinking that they'll be eager to put the hammer down on someone for this atrocity and everyone will be pointing to her.

I think a better question is actually "Why would Hawke actually hang around long enough to become Viscount in the first place?"

I never did a Templar playthrough (but I will some time) but I'm sure there is a good explanation unless of course the writers are pulling an ME 3 or something and its just there because

Maybe guilt? Maybe the weight of his/her decisions finally caught up to him/her? I mean, sister dying in the deep roads, or by Merediths blade, mother dying because you couldn't save her in time, killing Anders/or Not and letting him kill the Reverend Mother, all this death and destruction and really the only good thing you can say is, s/he killed the Arishok, who wasn't entirely in the wrong in the first place.. Isabela stole something of significant importance from the Qunari and Hawke tried to stop them from exacting punishment.

Hawke's own rise from poverty to wealth is a personal achievement, it's not something that needs to be lauded about, and depending on how you look at it the final conflict is really just Hawke either exciting the Templars to rebel, or the Circle to Rebel. Not exactly a bright spot on a resume for a hero, even if you felt the Mages were wronged.

Hawke in my opinion ran because no matter what side you pick the other side is going to know who incited this riot/revolt and they are going to come to Kirkwall for a fight, and that is going to be a never ending battle so rather than say where all your new enemies know where you are, it's probably best to disappear all together and start over.
