This is likely a release date mistake. There is no way a company would "surprise" consumers with an add-on product without at least a little hype or fanfare. That's just illogical.

Not incredibly. Tie it into the marketing for their Operations, keep it under wraps intentionally to give the impression that they're launching regular, monthly updates to MP and they're not such a big deal. Good tactic to keep people playing, and not simply drag them back when a big DLC announcement is made.

I don't know the lore around Turians but they seem a likely candidate for Phoenix Adept/Vanguard. Otherwise I'm thinking ex-cerberus or Prothean. Sure looks official though. Just have to wait Bioware's official word on it.
