To be honest, I prefer Liara over Tali by light years. Tali is perhaps one of the blandest characters ever created by BioWare, and I love BW, but they really dropped the ball with the "daddy issues" girl. In three games she evolved and progressed lees than Jack, Miranda or Samara in just one game. Talk about underachievement.

Unfortunately, that is your opinion, and it is as valid or worthless as anyone's else.

The polls show that Tali is the most liked straight female character of the Mass Effect Universe with a devastating margin over the next.

Liara is the most liked by the writer. Yes, the one that wrote ME3's ending.

Firstly, using "straight female character" is a poor way to spin a poll. Very Fox News-esque. Edit: also, using BSN polls? That's like going to the Escapist, reading their Bethesda vs Bioware polls and assuming that Bioware has 100-200% more fans than Bioware, when the reality is that Bethesda sells 3-4X the number of copies that Bioware does.

Secondly, outside the BSN, Liara was ME1's top romance, Miranda was ME2's, and I'm not sure about ME3.

Finally, that last statement is a blatant fabrication. Liara was written by Drew in the first two games (I believe) and a female writer in ME3. So let's not lie. The endings were written by neither.

Even though I don't like Jack she should have had more time but diverit hate to Allers not Tali

I don't think hate should be applied to any of them really. The characters either appealed to you or not.

I just find it a bit selfish to say that other characters should get less than what they have now so that the ME2 ones can get a better role.

Why not just give the ME2 characters more than what they got now?

I agree to that but I would rather have a very unnessary character to be hated thanTali but I agree with you

It's not a question about hate. I don't hate Tali, I find her super boring and dull, but I don't hate her. Yes, Allers was a mistake, but still Allers time could have been used for Miranda, and Tali's time for Jack, why keep including such a bland character in every game?

In the first one she was a talking codex entry, in the second one she served as a romance option for those who fantasize with vulnerable teenagers (her relationship with maleShep crept me out, it was this older, strong and rough military guy taking advantage of some naive dumb girl), in the third one she was an unstable mess.

Do we have an account for that outside BSN or is that just the general consensus on other forums and such?

If it's just the general audience, then I would assume Liara was picked in ME1 because of the lack of Tali. Miranda was picked in ME 2 because for a new character, it makes sense. Kind of like Ashely from ME 1. For ME 3 I would assume the VS but I am not sure.

He didn't lie; he said that Liara was Walters's favourite, not that she was written by him.

Thread has gotten to the point that it can be called a hate thread.

It's what happens when a specific character is picked for discussion.

On the Gamespot forums Miranda is the most popular by far.

I think there was some data on a Bioware twitter a long time ago, but I don't remember and I don't have the link. ME3 is likely to be the VS, but the appeal of "hot blue alien chicks" in the mainstream audience is fairly high, see Avatar.

Also, I'm not gonna deny the fact that they did shove Liara on the player character, so that might push her into the top spot for ME3 in the mainstream.

It's funny, but the only thing related to hate in this thread during the last few hours is a Talimancer insulting Liara in every possible way.

True enough lol.

Umm... I don't think a couple of pictures with Tali being killed is not considered hate.

Yea there are a couple Talimancers attacking back. "Eye for an eye."

I don't agree with it but let's try not to go there. LIke I said, nobody wins in hate threads. It's just a giant circle.

Just surf them for a bit (boards are subdivided by platform and game, you have a ME2 PC board, ME2 Xbox board, etc).

I mean, i don't understand why the hate for some characters.
I like every single character of Mass Effect. Maybe i'm lucky or just blind. Of course i have my preferences but... it is very sad to read some things.

That's why i do feel sorry for some people.

I don't see what whoever the most-frequently-romanced character is has to do with anything. If anything, it goes against this thread, as I'm fairly sure Jack is the least-romanced female squadmate.

Being straight is a crucial defining factor. Having the possibility of being romanced by both male and female characters vastly widens the possibilities of that NPC to be romanced, moreso when approximately 82% of ME players are male, and almost half of them choose to play female, with the idea of developping a lesbian relationship. Which Tali does not allow for.

In addition, Tali was not romanceable in ME1. It was because of massive popular demand that she became so in ME2.

Even then, In the last poll I saw Garrus was favored as a LI, with Liara and Tali tied behind, both Garrus and Tali overcoming the "straight" drawback.

Finally, it is not a blatant fabrication. Drew had Liara in ME1 where she filled her squad role, like every other character, without too much or too little plot-centering. She was one more, as it should be. Drew then did not add Liara for ME2, which he co-wrote already with Mac Walters. It was Mac Walters who reintroduced her in LotSB. Then in ME3, now totally under the catastrophic control of Mac Walters, Liara was given 4x airtime, development and story weight than any other character, by the same guy that ruined the ME3 trilogy for 90% of the playerbase in the end.

You can love or hate whoever you wish, but you can not change the facts.
