EA believes that there is no future for SP gaming.
And they intend to make that prophecy come true for all their games.
I don't blame EA for the ending or the fiasco that followed, but I sure as hell, think they're the reason for adding MP to a perfectly valid single player game that didn't need it.
Actually, this is Used-Game DRM. The entire purpose of the whole thing was to...
1. Prevent games from being turned in.
2. If they were, forced the used game buyers to pay them anyways.
Then they threw in a bunch of stuff that they figured they could generate revenue from the crowd that pays to win instead of playing to win.
Regardless, it'll be EA's downfall. People are tired of DLC and Online Only. Kickstarters have failed because of the mention of DLC, and Diablo 3 is getting shredded for it's Online Only component, in a game where it did make some sense.
EA's going to DLC itself out of buisness, especially since they looked at the 40% attach rate of From Ashes and thought "What a success!", instead of thinkig "Wait...this means more than half the people who bought the game thought negatively about our DLC policies".
They think it's a great scenario, when what their takeaway should've been is "More than half of the customers don't like this plan, and are less likely to purchase our future products".
They'll figure it out over the next year, probably when they're trying to explain < $10/share stock prices to shareholders.
