1 - Baldur's Gate Trilogy
2 - Fallout 2
3 - Gothic 2 (Most involved and taxing combat of any game ever, rich quests and environments. NOTR was lower quality sadly)
4 - Planescape Torment (classic but didn't offer that much replayability)
5 - Fallout 3 (The only bethsoft game that really delivers much on the hype IMHO)
I have played Final Fantasy 1 through 9 but I find the stories rather asinine and the gameplay not only outdated but nearly missing. The typical JRPG format seems about as interesting as using a spreadsheet and the storylines make me feel like I'm trapped in some bad fanfiction, especially from 5 onwards.
Similarly I don't rate the Icewind Dale games because they didn't involve me. The fact your ONLY sidequests were the 5 odd you picked up in the VERY FIRST TOWN and other than that it was straight combat bored me to tears. I never got past that tower with the shadow orcs without giving up to save me from more tedium.
The Elder scrolls series has its moments but Oblivion's gameplay and immersion were utterly broken and the constant questing in to the Oblivion gates made me uninstall it. Mods or nay it was fundamentally flawed. Morrowind is still my favorite in the series and has given a few good playthroughs but again lacks that immersive quality the games in my top 5 had.
Zelda games... I'm not sure why these are considered RPGs, they've always struck me as fantasy action games these days but either way they seem very ho-hum. The last one I gave a crap about was Zelda 3 and 2 remains my fast favorite.
Ultima games offered nice if bland fantasy and a real incentive for exploration but they still had the worst game interfaces known to man and that makes revisiting them a distant thought.
Neverwinter Nights 1 was a failed if bold experiment and Neverwinter Nights 2 was, to my mind at least, plain and simple garbage and what it took to get me to look kindly on NWN1 in the first place.
MMOs? Not for me, thanks.
