I see my thread warped a bit in my sleep lol. Nerd raging, ending debate, and flame wars.

Since this has turned into a comparison thread I will add my opinion to it.

Mass Effect VOs are incredible, obviously hiring respected actors helps but everything is top notch.
Dialog wheel is fantastic, definitely has a realistic, comfort feeling as if you were really considering how to respond.
Character development is better too. So far I haven't experienced the level of love and admiration I have for characters in the ME universe. I cried when I gave Tali a home and when Thane prayed for my salvation, doubt I will get that from the Witcher.

The Witcher is MUCH more of an rpg. Upgrading talents, weapons, collecting herbs, crafting is all there. ME 1 had more of those elements but almost all were cut.
Dialog is much more nature, not just cussing but thoughts and ideas. I can get specific if necessary. Combat is vastly superior and more entertaining. Enemies can be very challengmg and different styles have to be incorporated at all times. Also You have to learn about monsters through books and investigation to be able to kill them and get ingredients.

I am on my phone so that is all for now.

never heard of the witcher untill came onto these forums, so decided to have a look on youtube of walkthroughs and although it looks decent, i feel the male protagonist being already pre-determined isnt for me, and i know its based on books but just dont feel it as such so i'll still stick to skyrim dlc when its out for fantasy adventure.

Zoltan and Geralt discussing the changing nature of evil and the place of Witcher's within it comes to mind.

And yes, Witcher is still very old-school with its RPG-ness. And I like a lot of the characters to far.

For all my ****ing about the Witcher, I still enjoyed it. And don't get me wrong, if CDProjeckt goes sci-fi and has a story that focuses on interstellar politics witcher style, I would be SO down for that. Do you order the orbital bombardment of an enemy planet to end the war quickly, or commit to a prolonged war with more casualties on your side, perhaps with a party-character death. Basically if you played a Mass Effect game during the Krogan rebellions and made the initial genephage style decisions. I think they'd be amazing at that.

EDIT: Enough posting for now I think :D

Sometimes I lay awake at night wishing I was in a world where the Mass Effect team was as competent as CDPR

DA2 gotme playing the Witcher., plus it was dirt cheap on GOG.com.  At first I was turned off by the Witcher from what I heard about it (non-intuitive combat, very little in the way of uer friendly UI, etc.) but once I started playing it I found it pretty refreshing, especially after DA2.

The Witcher , Mass Effect yada yada ...

When they get around to making a Gundam RPG this will look like pre-school in comparison.

How can sci-fi game lead you to a fantasy game?

...Besides, both Witchers are crappy games. First one is complete trash. And the second one is just a DA2 clone made in boring universe... Witcher 2 is better then DA2 only in terms of map design. And I don't really care it has 1000000 different endings. Game quality measures not by endings' quantity.

Actually, it lead me to play other games, non-RPGs too, that I enjoyed. Saints Row 3, Peace Walker, The Longest Journey, Alpha Protocol and possibly Guild Wars 2 in the nearest future.

To the OP.

No, but i am thinking about it, specially after my little sister finished ME3 a couple of weeks ago.

To elaborate:

I disliked the ending of ME3, but I wasn't emotional about it, it was just **** and I thought all the people that claimed to quit gaming were just exaggerating, that was until I found my younger sister crying like a baby and claiming to never play a game again (even thought I made fun and teased her a lot at first) until I realised she had been honest and stopped playing EVERYTHING, not even the Bing Bang Theory made her laugh and that hit home, because of that I had real living proof that ME3 wasn't just a bad game, to some people it was a soul crushing game and as a person I can't endorse a company that does that to their customers, the company that made the witcher seems to be a great company with their customers and fans and as thus deserve my money regardless of my taste in games.

I took me 3 weeks a PS2 with Kingdom Hearts to help my sister to forget about "The Shepard" and the insulting promise of "buy our DLC" after the Kingdom Hearts series I will try to get her to play the great Snes JRPG that so many gamers missed.

Honestly I didn't think it was posssible, but I can't recommend ME to anyone anymore, before I could say it was an awesome series with a subpar ending, now I can't risk the chance of giving someone an emotional meltdown.

No (well, maybe inderectly), I read good reviews about TW2 in specialized websites and even in this very forum during the backslash storm on DA2, so I thought that it deserved a try..... but before it I tried the first one....
Graphics were not great.... but in many other things it was a fantastic game..... Now I'm reading the books.

If you play TW1 (which only exists on PC) you should play the 2nd also on computer, because it has a savegame import feature.

Both Witchers have terrible combat system. You can't apply your skills to that kind of combat, because the combat is just completely broken. The best way to play this combat is just randomly press some buttons and reload from save when needed.

So using a new type of combat system is the same as a terrible one?

Having to learn and use a new combat system doesn't make said system broken, look at the Final Fantasy series, you have to learn a new learning system with every game and some people hate it at first because they are forced to learn and make mistakes.

No. I had planned on checking out the Witcher when it came to consoles anyway. Since I had read a couple of the books years ago I knew a bit about the character, even him being a ripoff of Michael Moorcock's Elric.

ME3 did push me back into the welcoming arms of Fallout 3 and New Vegas though. And I'm glad it did. Haven't looked back since.

That or they don't want to take the time to learn speaking on Final Fantasy new battle system... one you do learn it. That system is freaking awesome... if you are not paying attention  you can get roflstomped easily.   They need to at a hard mode  with that system.

So I can't be a fan of both and consider one better than the other? Inferiority complex, huh?
