An RPG that does everything that Bioware (falsely) promised us regarding choice and consequence.

Here's a tip. When adults do adult stuff, they don't have to say it's for adults.

That isn't saying much, I've played T-rated JPRGS that are more catered to adults and don't involve juvenile pandering like politicians turned into blubbering idiots or self-parodies to stroke the player's ego or insulting the audience's intelligence with a deus ex machina plot that's beyond horrid.

Got into Witcher 2 on Xbox, just finished my first playthrough.

Things that ME does better:

-Better morality system.
-Love Interests and Squadmates.
-Bigger worlds and more areas to explore (ME1 and ME2 only)

Things Witcher 2 does better:

-A vastly superior interactive world (seriously, you'll have dozens of options with a shopkeeper alone).
-A vastly superior quest system.
-A vastly wider system of choices (only ME1 can compare with how many ways it's possible to complete a quest).
-Choices MATTER. I've finished only one runthrough, halfway through the second and it feels like I'm playing a completely different game. My Geralt is different, my allies are different, my objectives are different and the quests I'm on don't even have anything to do with the ones done in the last run.

Mass Effect still holds all the cards for 'epicness', but Witcher 2 has claimed my future enthusiasm for a story driven game. Really, the only thing holding me onto Mass Effect at the moment is my love for Shepard and Ash, plus the promise of the Extended Cut.

...Well, I'ma go buy the Witcher now.

As opposed to Mass Effect's laughably absurd cutscenes of dry-humping that it tries to pass off as "romance"?

Never played the Witcher.
Invested lots of hours in the Witcher 2 though.

That was before ME3 came out.

It's not even the dry humping scenes that make it absurd,  it's them being some tacked on fanwank that consists of a handful of brief conversations that tries to be passed off as "twu lub".

Uh no. It's catered to adults because the writing and the story treats the player as an intelligent adult, unlike Mass Effect 3 that kept doing retcon and trollface after retcon and trollface just for the sake of some fanwanking.

As for the OP's question. I guess so? My friends had been bugging me to buy and play TW1 and 2 for months. I had a difficult time getting past TW1 and gave up. After ME3, when I was pissed off over how much they screwed certain fans over, I bought TW2 EE and I haven't looked back. It's refreshing to play a game where choices actually have real consequences, where you don't just get to kill some guy you hate and get away scotfree and where you actually have to pay attention when the NPCs are talking.

Yes! omg it did!

This actually let me to buying a few games, I needed a distraction from ME((@$^%$*$%ing endings))

I tried TERA online, it was an amusing distraction (jiggle physics) but not much else there. Witcher 2 is looking great so far. I also went back to fallout 3. With New Vegas still getting attention, I neglected FO3 for quite a while, good game.

I also started a little project, converting my dragonage character << to a face-code. I want to be able to play DAO in a few years time and enjoy it as much as I have previously. want to make 100% sure i dont lose my character. Ill also not be buying DA3 incase it further ruins related Bioware games *coughDA2cough*

Oh come off the "intelligent" arguement as if you're some grand wizard that looks down upon us feeble minded town folk.

- They overly use swear words where it's sounds stupid,

- theres ****ing sex in it without developing a relationship (at least defending ME),

- the combat is deep or some **** - it's in fact short of broken,

- theres the usual suspects like the ****/mean mayor, the strong-willed but fragile girlfriend, the honest/loyal and butt-friend dwarf.

This **** is not new.

Nope, playing Witcher 1 led me to Witcher 2 :P Though it was Bioware that led me to TW1. The first Witcher game used a heavily modified version of Bioware's Aurora engine (the Neverwinter Nights engine) - and at the time there was a lot of goodwill between CDProjekt Red and Bioware. Bio gave the company and game a good deal of positive word-of-mouth publicity on the old BioBoards, and advertised the game on its website I believe, which encouraged me to check it out. I'd guess that this is true for a fair number of people who were on the BioBoards at the time and weren't already familiar with the Witcher books.

There are so many differences between them I don't see them as competing for my affections. I like TW's choice & consequence and its much grittier European flavour. Both Witcher games had a decent story and excellent atmosphere. Good characters throughout, but I didn't much like that the women in TW1 were all there to be bedded by Geralt and the women in TW2 all seemed to need rescuing by Geralt (especially Triss, a lot). I disliked TW2's number of mandatory quick-time events and wasn't overly fussed about the combat in either Witcher game. I liked the crafting in the games, though preferred potion crafting in TW1. I'm not keen on how predefined Geralt is (MUCH more predetermined than Nameless in PS:T imo) even though I understand why it is so, and I don't much care for his character anyway, even 'nice' Geralt comes off as being a bit of a tosser sometimes.

ME3 - I much prefer the combat and gameplay, I find Bioware games in general to be more replayable despite their comparative lack of meaningful c&c for some reason. I also prefer being able to customise my protagonist. I love adventuring with companions - the party-based gameplay is something Bioware does really, really well imo and CDPR doesn't do at all. Atmosphere and lore of ME games is just as compelling as TW for me, but in a different way. Prefer TW storylines, but like BW's antagonist characters more (Loghain, Irenicus, Saren, Sovereign, TIM etc). Both series contain marvellous characters - Siegfried, Iorveth, Roche and Shani :( are my favourites in TW. Garrus, Wrex, Legion, Mordin, Liara, Anderson, Jack and Samara in ME. For me, Bioware wins out in that regard, but both are very good. I don't like the streamlined RPG elements in the ME games - skill trees are much nicer in TW, and I preferred TW2's c&c - ie a whole different bit of the game depending on your choices.

Both games suffer from a certain disconnect with my character. In ME3 it's the amount of auto dialogue (and the ending of course), I didn't feel like I was in control of Shep, which irked me. In the Witcher, it's women. In the first game I romance Shani which is roundly ignored in the second game in favour of Triss. Throughout the events of TW2 I find out I'm really in love with a third woman (Yennefer) who I've never even heard of. Again, the feeling that the character isn't mine. The old 'but TW is based on the books' argument doesn't work for me. I'm not playing the novels, I'm playing the games, which are presented as RPGs not just interactive stories about Geralt the hero of the Witcher books.  And if I am playing the book version of Geralt, why give me the option of Shani in the first place only to later pretend that choice never existed? Again, irked. . ____ .

TL;DR? Don't worry about it, it's not important :P

Like many of these witcher fans you can try to look down your nose at us lowly ME fans but acting snide and arrogant doesn't make you an adult, it makes you an ass
