Either they more likely both die and the intel dies with them, or Gunnie dies and the Huntress has a chance at getting the intel to the Alliance. The greater chance (even slim) is worth it. (Ruthless Calculus.)
If it was a non-military Asari, both of them would have probably died (and died long before they found themselves in that situation).
Yet if there was a way to abandon Gunnie without actually killing her, there would be a chance the Banshee would have taken her alive like the others while the Huntress escaped. (Gunnie would almost certainly be indoctrinated, though, if not turned into DNA goo or a husk.)
