Jacob is a boring character with little character, horrible in combat and is just plain unint5resting. Then in ME3 he is not only OOC and makes no sense, he decides to cheat on you if you romanced you and then dumps you. I don't like cheaters, so Jacob can die for all I care.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I 'hate' Jacob. I like all the squadmates, I just find him to be the least interesting. Vega, Kasumi, Zaeed and Ashley are all more interesting human characters. While Kaidan also has his boring moments, I'd still rank him above Jacob just for being friendlier. In Jacob's best moments he is a bit boring and in his worst he is a bit of a standoffish douche.

"Already Shepard? I'm not real big on forcing these talks."

"Well, f**k you too Jacob."

His voice acting in ME3 is also terrible.

He's already resolved his issues before ME2, so he comes across as boring to some. It's not hate, just simple indifference. Add in the 'priiize' line and that's all anyone remembers about him. His lackluster combat skills aren't a plus either.

Unfortunately, his 'romance' in ME3 just makes things worse and alienates those who were on the fence about him before. Jacob's one of my favorites and I'm quite upset at the treatment he got; interestingly enough, it seems like most of the anger is directed at the character rather than the writers who chose to make that decision.

Totally disagree that Jacob > Kaidan in the biotic department. I never hated Jacob but just found him to be rather useless and a bullet sink. I found the other teammates in ME2 to not only be more useful on missions but also more enjoyable to talk too. Past the first mission on Omega and Jacob's personal mission he never leaves the ship for me.

Because he is a boring character with little development over ME2.

At Freedom's Progress he is Jacob.
Before his loyalty mission he is Jacob.
After is loyalty mission he is Jacob.
After Collector base he is Jacob.
Suicide mission (he volunteers for something he cannot complete, a Jacob move) he is Jacob.

Into ME3, he is Jacob.
IF you romanced him, he betrays you.

His defining fault is him being Jacob.

I also found Jacob to be quite boring and not very interesting.. it also annoyed me every time you recruited someone then he would get snarky towards them in the debriefing and I just thought..." Jacob...who let you back onto my ship?"

Also, I think it's funny how a joke in one of my posts provoked this thread.

I don't think anyone hates him, almost everyone just thinks he's really bloody boring. He's too boring for anyone to hate him.

Well, I guess...it's because humans are still living in the dark age, and that their stoicism forces them to hate polygamists. It's not their fault, they can't help it. But don't ask me why, sometimes I wonder about that myself.

Jacob defines a normal human being. Of course, in a world of Calibrating Turians, psycho asari who **** so good people die, (Morinth ftw <3), racist poetry writing latinas and robots with camel toes, normal human being isn't really what is being looked for. He does what he does in ME2 (Not that much) and in 3 he cheats (Human nature to give into desire). So he's...normal. Which people don't like. IMO he's a decently round character, who represents a real person.

(Also, would people please shut up about in-combat usefulness when talking about characters?)

Who’s Jacob again?

Seriously though, I liked Jacob. I’d hate Jacob had I romanced him.

I don't hate him per se. I just find him so, so, so boring and he has incredibly annoying lines at times. I mean, wtf was 'I'm not big on forcing these talks.' and 'You'd never give up the normandy, she's your true love.' how does he know this? So I told Liara I want ba peaceful life with blue children for nothing then? Basically every line with femshep makes me wanna punch him.
I never romanced him - but if you do he's a complete and utter a-hole. Oh and also his ridiculous attitude to seemingly everyone you seem to recruit. He deliberately incites Tali, is xenophobic towards Legion and Grunt (understandable with Legion I guess) and the worst part - he hates Thane because Thane is a mercenary, then Jacob becomes a mercenary in ME3. What a hypocrit.

He never changes during or between the games. He just remains the same old Jacob but this time he's had an extra-marital child.

His character is ok in some parts but most of the time he's undeveloped with a (weirdly) stereotypical background and simply an annoying person.

There's probably more cause to dislike him than other characters.

i lol at this

sorry to admit it, but this is true. although, i don't HATE him. he's pretty much usless throughout ME2. not a good soldier. not a good biotic. easy loyalty/boring mission. nothing about his character is exciting or intriguing.  the only reason why i talked to him so much, was so that i could get my Paragon higher.

Honestly, for me, its mostly first impressions. Blame it on the conversation system if you want, but the first time I go to talk to Jacob on the Normandy and I believe the line I got was..

Shepard: Have a moment to talk?
Jacob: Already? I am not big of FORCING these conversations.

Shepard walking away thinking.... what an ****...

Honestly, after that he was a crew member of the Normandy.... not a friend.

He did seem kinda odd in me3, and the treatement of his romance was Fed up..but...ALL THE ME2 CHARACTERS WERE NOT SERVICED WELL IN ME3....none of them....and not just because they werent recruitable{though given me2s popularity was that really wise bioware?}....I was left just saying really?? after completing my me3 miranda romance.....{i did start liking jack in me3 though, hated her in 2}

I thought given his backstory Jacob starting a family and becoming a father was fitting for him

at least jacob had the same voice actor, unlike mordin{unforgivable} in me 3, also Jacob was never intended to be one of the most intersting characters, like a mordin or a legion, but another good guy human male for shepard to bond with{or female romance} amidst the aliens and chaos and to show there are good ppl in cerberus

i loved him in combat, a greta biotic, he,grunt{i am krogan!!!}, miranda, mordin were all awesome

It's BSN. If it exists, we'll hate it here.

That ME3 Jacob acts like a complete jerk towards all his fans who liked him enough to romance him probably doesn't help.

Thankfully i didn't romance him, if i did would have been pissed to find out he cheated on you, having a child and might name it after you...
The hate is because his continuation in ME3 is pretty poor and not even considered a romance in that game
