you win some and lose some... all we lost is a free equipment pack for those who didn't get a full extraction... so it really didn't have an effect on us.

You should learn to read. We have FAILED that means that there will be no victory packs and no commedation packs.
It works like this:

• If operation succeeds everybody gets victory packs + ppeople who managed to complete squad objective will get a commendation pack.
• If operation fails everybody gets nothing at all

I think you're wrong. Maybe you should go read the post, just in the same manner you said to Azrever.

Two goals, they aren't tied to each other and nothing implies they are.

who cares. the victory packs have always been garbage so why would i even make an effort to try for them. all i care about are the commendation packs.

Probably in the minority, but this is how I feel it should be too.  No victory, no commendations.  Try harder next time.

After a little thought I agree with you (despite wanting a decent N7 gun instead of the Eagle and Crusader I've currently got). The community goal is pretty much a waste of time if we can get the commendation pack regardless but as a small reward for everyone and a bigger one for those who also achieved the individual goals it makes sense.

Until I hear something official that failing the community goal also means nothing for the squad, then I'm not going to believe it.  The exact wording was the following:

Allied Goal: Kill 3,000,000 banshees
Squad Goal: Survive until a full extraction on any map against any enemy on gold difficulty.
 
Successful completion of the allied goal will grant all players a Victory Pack.
Successful completion of the squad goal will grant all squadmates a Commendation Pack. 

It doesn't say that the Squad goal was dependent on the Allied goal.  Also, as this is like a "war", you don't get or not get a medal based on "winning".  You get a medal based on performance.  Thus, getting the "Commendation" doesn't imply you have to get a "Victory" first.

Operation failure hasn't happened before. Where does it state that we don't need to complete the Allied goal to get the Squad goal reward?

I think we should still get the commendation packs because they were two separate goals. That's not fair to the people that accomplished the gold extract. 

I accomplished full gold extraction ... still feel that way.   I just think It's kind of stupid to be throwing out gift boxes in the face of crushing defeat.

I also think, if you want to add more challenge in it for most, call for a full gold extraction and at the same time announce that for the first time in a while, we have full control over Firebase White and that no ops to that location are necessary.  In other words, remove FBW from the map selection for the weekend.

Actually it's nice, it means they're not taking random numbers higher than the requirement every week and send us a "good job" card.

I kind of feel like Bioware is shooting themselves in the foot with these Victory Packs, because let's be honest, the only reason to play beyond what fun it is (which quickly diminishes after two rounds) is to unlock new guns. I've already got most of the others, so that just leaves N7 weapons, and when I can't get them one weekend I kind of lose interest for another two weeks. Of course that's just me.

I would have preferred to earned my Victory Pack, but no big deal. I wish they'd publish how many Banshees were killed. Were we even close?

Don't care about the Victory Pack at all. Still I did my fair share of killing Banshees, took out at least 30 of them myself and together my team must have taken down more than 100 Banshees on gold.

They should really make an effort to tie the two goals together. For example, if the Squad Goal had been Full Extraction vs Reapers we may have succeeded. As it was, the World and his wife jumped on FBWGG until they got that Full Extraction.

A shame. Still, bring on the next one!

I'm upset that the goal was unattainable, though.
