You can play emulated PS games with a PS3 controller. I was playing Dragon Quest 8 myself just the other day (I own it just not a working PS2) and I HIGLY recommend it such a great game.

Ohhhh. Very interesting. I'll look into this. tnx :D

Where would one find an emulator for the PS1&2, though? Whenever I look I always end up on sleazy-looking sites clogged with ads.

Heh, I wasn't trying to be quite so forthright about it - but yeah, emulators are the way to go for a lot of those older games like we're talking about.

They can go back to the past and draw inspiration from it. I have no problem with that. I simply believe their time is better spent working on a new game than rehashing an old one. Of course, my mindset in general is that video game developers should constantly challenge themselves to grow and improve. By and large, that rarely occurs if they spend too much time in the past.

Well, SE has remade games before. I believe FF7 will eventually be remade. SE is just busy with SO MANY Titles including FF Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts.

Here's a pretty cool Picture. It's official too, though it was probably a part of the Advertisement for Advent Children: Complete:

http://www.emulator-...om/doc.php/psx/

The top links are the best I haven't tried the PS 1 emulator but the PS2 requires a real key (can't remember what exactly) to work so yea you need something from your PS2.

ePSXe and PSX are both good - though I prefer PSX, personally. I also used PCSX on Linux, back when that was my primary OS. All three will do the job.

This is pretty much the sole reason I want an emulator for PS1&2.

Well, this and MGS.

Also, I wonder if there are PSP emulators out there...

Edit: Nevermind, thanks Skelter.

That sounds weird, I feel like I should be calling you Ringo. But thanks.

Agreed.

but the thing is they're not producing any good. Unless your part of the generation that grew up with FFXII and on...

then you probably like the games. But my generation - we grew up with Squaresoft (not Square-Enix)

for game developers to challenge themselves is by going to the past and not forgetting why they suceeded that's why we have Histroy Books. To not forget our roots.

So I am in agreement on you on the "game developers challengeing themselves) as long that it's done correctly........which I don't see Square-Enix doing.........at all. It seems that they're "spoiled" arrogant developers who think themselves good because they think they deserve to be recognize from the past developers who made them good.

I hope not, VII was when it all started going downhill.  Now if they were doing a remake of VI then you would have something.

u seroiius? what are you 14?

VII is great. As VI and IV

it's because VI and IV were so good, that made VII, VIII, IX and even X good.

those were the days of Squaresoft and not Enix.... completely different

33 actually and VII was horrible.   I'll take FF III and VI any day over VII.  Hell most of my friends at the time only played it for when the Camera got stuck and zoomed in on Tifa's........ assets.

Can't see why people like a game that:

- Limits Weapons (Loved in 3 when you could swap your character class and weapons style to fit certain areas)
- Limits Armour (Again previous FF games gave way more armour options with abilities)
- Magic system made other party members pointless (Why bother with more then 3 members when anyone can have both strong physical and magical attacks, VI had a decent balance with that but VII dropped the ball)
- The grinding was overkill to get some items
- In battle cut scenes (I swear the final boss fight only took forever because you has to wait 2-3 minutes for the boss to actually attack).

Final Fantasy II (IV) on SNES was my first RPG. I'm in my thirties. My favorite FF game is still FF3/VI. I pretty much gave up on the games after FFVII. Tried FFVIII--didn't like it. I didn't try another until FFX. That game bored me to tears. I gave up after what I assume was the halfway point and never looked back. Haven't played any FF game since as I'm a PC gamer now.

If Square-Enix is as arrogant as you suggest, then maybe you have a point. I can't fairly comment on that one way or another, not having played any of those games. I just agree with the idea of looking ahead as a general concept.

I like FF III. Though the lack of direction and multitude of places to unintentionally eff yourself over (such as flying over the capitol or whatever) is kind of annoying.

Man, I love the original MGS - I think that's one of the games I've spent the most time playing, next to Ocarina of Time, Morrowind, and DA:O (and soon Skyrim).

PS1 in general had some of the best games I've ever played - FFVII, Chrono Cross, MGS1, Resident Evil 2 & 3, Soul Reaver, Silent Hill - all classics and worthy of anyone's collection.

Well guys, I guess that settles it - wolfsite says FFVII is horrible. Better take those old copies and toss 'em in the trash, and delete digital copies off your hard drives, then.

Still have my original Final Fantasy Cart for the NES.

Also have the original Carts for Dragon Warrior I - IV which is impressive since II and IV are on the rare side.

Dragon Warrior IV is on the rare side? Huh. I have my best friend's FF and DWIV carts in my closet. I borrowed his copies and failed to return them before he moved. In fairness he has my entire Atari 2600 and 7800 collection, though. XD

Lulz. The FF series hit its peak with FFVII - it's when FFVIII came out that things started to get wobbly IMHO.

Nomura can dream that he'll make a FF title "better" than FFVII, but he's kidding himself if he honestly thinks it can happen - the FF series' prime is long past. Hell, I'll bet they'd even screw up a remake if it ever did happen tbh.

actually you're wrong.

FFIV remake on the DS with the updated graphics was beautiful. It was done well. It's what a remake should be

and I personally disagree with you on VIII. I think it was great. It's only downfall was the junction system. Because 8-12 yrs old couldn't figure it out. While others (like myself) could.

Story wise, it was great. I also liked FFIX - was that bad? Because that was again a real "fantasy" game going back to what FF 1,2,3 were

anyway - you're entitled to opinion but a remake has been done - and was done very well.

Actually, both the FFIII and FFIV remakes were handled by a third-party developer - Square merely published them.

True. Good to point that out

And yes, the FFIV remake was supreme - best FF game I've played since VII.

One of my favorite parts

Played them all Posted Image. The only one I did not play was FFXI.

The Ultemicia castle in FFVIII was so beautifull.......
Have not seen the likes of that in any of the others. This kind of thing needs to return in other installments.

Also FFIV needs to be remade for the consoles. Great game and story. Bought a DS just to play FFIV on it and want to see what is possible on a more powerfull console.

Ya they are considered rare.  I have only seen IV for sale in my area once and I am glad I picked it up.

@ OP: That picture for the FF7 Tech Demo was always a cool picture to me. Here's the same Picture, but which some changes. I edited the picture by changing the Shadow, Contrast, Brightness, Color, and Sharpness via Windows Photo Gallery. I also used Corel Paint Shop Pro to add the Logo. I did this to make it look more Dynamic and Cinematic, in a sense....idk:

I love how up untill near the end of the second page most of the posts were about how badly SE has fallen regarding FF and such, rather than actually talking about the actual point around a FFVII remake. But regardless.

I was tempted at first to say ths is old news untill I saw the date of the article. Thing is, SE as been dodging questions and debunking others thoughts about a remake way back from the PS3 tech demo. From this the way I see it, is that they are either trying to (badly) cover up a big announcement, or they genuinely don't have plans or want to work on one right now. I think the latter.

ahhh very nice. Nicely done.

when they did the PS3 demo back in the day - I was freaking out (as everyone else) about if they actually were going to remake it LOL
