Okay guys, so while I was playing MP today, I thought to myself, "Man, the magazine mod doesn't really help the Locust that much." So when that match was over, I flicked through the mod screen and noticed the SMG heat-sink made the capacity bar for the Locust go from off the charts to a little bit under the top of the charts. Being a nerd and a Geometry student, I decided to do some math, and here are my results (Please note I used level 5 mods and level 1 weapons for my research):

Locust total shots with Mag Upgrade: 276 as opposed to 260 (+16).
Locust total shots with Heat Sink: An average of 377 as opposed to 260 (+117).

Tempest total shots with Mag Upgrade: 440 as opposed to 400 (+40).
Tempest total shots with Heat Sink: An average of 580 as opposed to 400 (+180).

Geth Plasma SMG total shots with Mag Upgrade: 780 as opposed to 600 (+180).
Geth Plasma SMG total shots with Heat Sink: An average of 951 as opposed to 351 (+351).

Hurricane total shots with Mag Upgrade: 312 as opposed to 240 (+32).
Hurricane total shots with Heat Sink: An average of 406 as opposed to 240 (+126).

Keep in mind the Heat Sink, in actual combat, will be less effective when used on the Locust and more effective when used on the Geth Plasma SMG and the Hurricane, due to rates of fire. But even despite this, my research made me realize something: The Mag Upgrade is obsolete compared to the Heat Sink. While it's true the Heat Sink's rate of unused shots is a variable due to percentages, on average, it grants way more shots than the mag upgrade.

Think of it like this:

The Mag Upgrade arguably gives more shots per individual clip in some cases, exposing you to more fire and draining the weapon's capacity faster. The Heat Sink spreads out the effect over the entire clip and magazine, not just the first magazine, allowing ammo to last much longer and possibly not exposing you to as much fire, which can be a life saver on Gold.

...Which means the capacity bar in the weapon screen is, on average, incorrect when it comes to the 2 SMG capacity mods.
