Hey there. I've read through the threads I could find here and also looked through a bunch of pages resulting from my google search, and nothing I've tried has worked. I'm running BGT on my Windows 7 laptop. It has plenty of power, way more than is needed, and I've run Baldur's Gate on this computer before with no problems. However, I'm here to ask if anyone knows if these differences that I have in my install now would result in the lag I'm experiencing.
For one, this my first time using BGT. Second, my laptop has 1 TB of space, but it is split into 4 drives, so 250 GB on each. My main C drive is almost full, so I installed the games and the subsequent mods into my F Drive, into a "Games" folder.
I installed all 4 games through GOG.com, and then installed the FixPack, then BGT, then Unfinished Business, then the TweakPack from Gibberlings, and then the Widescreen Mod (which I subsequently uninstalled.) The thing is that for the most part it can run, but then when I try and do certain things, like pick up items from a body or, the biggest offender, press tab where there are a lot of clickable containers, the game lags super hard. I've never had it lag before. I had noticed the lag before, but then when I pressed tab in the beginning dungeon in the library where almost all the shelves are clickable, I couldn't really move my mouse.
I've played around with changing the resolution and changing the graphics settings and such, but I cannot get that lag to go away. I've also tried turning off my antivirus completely, and it remained. I've never had this before. My cache size is 900MB, so that's not it either. If anyone knows anything, let me know! Thanks!
Lag and Performance Issues?

BGT is likely to be a bit more resource hungry than vanilla BG2. A good solution for general lag is the generalised biffing mod. However, this should only really be a problem in areas with large numbers of monsters, so it sounds like you have some sort of conflict.
I think the browser can sometimes cause a problem - do you have Google Chrome? If you post your Weidu log I can also have a look at the mod components to see if there are any obvious clashes between them.

Hey, thanks for the reply!
Yeah, on my problem-free installation before, I had the 4 games installed from the 4-in-1 box set, and used TuTu instead of BGT. Even if BGT is taking up more resources, I can run much more intensive games still, without difficulty... Hmm...
Yeah, I do run Google Chrome. Should I close it? And how do I post a Weidu log?
Thanks so much!

This is the only thing that stands out. The Tab key lag indicates a graphics issue i.e. direct X but you say that the system runs GoG bg2 fine & I don’t see any extra graphics in your setup. How much spare space does your C drive have?

There's nothing obvious in your Weidu log. I noted that you've got bottomless bags of holding and that can cause serious lag if you've got lots of items in, but that shouldn't be an issue just in the starting dungeon (an alternative mod for this component would be atweaks, which allows you to set a specific capacity for bags of holding).
In relation to Google Chrome I don't think it should be an issue while playing, but it might possibly have interfered with the installation. To avoid installation problems associated with this and other resident programs you might try reinstalling with them all closed, e.g. by using Windows safe mode.

Is it every time you press the tab key in that location. If the first time is worst it would tend to indicate something to do with the cache. Have you tried emptying the cache/data folder and temp folder - maybe they were populated with the dungeon area when the widescreen mod was active and are causing issues now it isn't?
I seem to remember having problems after uninstalling the widescreen mod, but that would be 2-3 years back. Meant a full re-install though as adding the mod back made no difference.
The other comments look valid too. You could check the C & F disk fragmentation too if you're keen not to uninstall and go through it all again.

Thanks for the responses!
ussnorway: Yeah, I have this theory that my games are going to run fastest on the C drive, because that seems to be the "main" one, at least where all my other files are stored (My documents, program files, etc.) and perhaps if I'm trying to run a different drive while also having my C drive open, this slows it down, perhaps? There was 9 out of 116 GB free, and I made a bit more space to make it 20 of 116, but the lag still occurs. It seems my TB is spread out unequally, 116 for C, 327 for D, 232 for E, 232 for F. Also, I said my computer runs the 4-in-1 boxset version of the game fine, this is my first time using the GOG version, and it isn't working too well...
Grond0: Hmm, I definitely had Chrome open while installing. And for the bags of holding, yeah, I haven't even gotten to those yet.
Gate70: Well, this lag has been occurring throughout the dungeon up to that point, it was just particularly noticeable in the library when so many blue click-ables show up. As for Widescreen, I was experiencing the same sort of lag with it, I just uninstalled it because I didn't like how it looked.
By checking the disk fragmentation, did you mean just run the defrag?

The C drive is where windows (all types) defaults the swap files to and that will frag the U-no-what out of a gaming rig in no time at all... yes defrag often. Most gamers put the swap pages elsewhere and Win7 even recommends making a dedicated swap drive as part of a professional install now but that’s getting way outside a simple adjustment if your system came pre-packaged from somewhere like Dicksmith or Woolworths.
Note that windows also likes to have at least 10% spare space on any functioning drive but a storage drive can get away with less... eg of a storage drive could be your M drive that just stores movies, because these large folders aren’t really being moved around much they shouldn’t need a lot of attendance.
As a rule of thumb each extra window you have open at the same time will degrade your system performance by up to 10% (graphics take up more) & of course having a high swap file user like say Torrents running will frag your files even more.
I suspect something else is actually causing a bottleneck but it’s hard to say what exactly without a lot more information... re-installing is the correct next step any way so good luck.
AFAIA The GoG (patched) & the 4-in-1 boxset (not patched) are the same version however your Chrome will certainly interfere with the GoG installer & should be turned off... DON’T INSTALL TO THE PROGRAMS FOLDER!

Okay, so I reinstalled to my C drive! Before hand, I cleared out some space, so there was 40 GB available, and I defragged the disk as well. I installed the 4 games via GOG and then installed the Fixpack, and then fired it up. At the standard resolution, I was still getting the lag. When I put it at 1024x768, the lag was slightly less, but still there. In this case I wasn't in the library of the dungeon, just in the room with Jaheira and Minsc, using the TOBMAG pre-saved file to fire off some spell effects, where it would lag if I cast Fireball and such. I'm not entirely sure what's wrong... perhaps my graphics card isn't amicable with the game?
Another strange thing is that in the Config, under Hardware, where there are 3 sliders, the lowest setting, Below Minimum or something like that, is highlighted in red text, as if it's indicating that my computer is such. I'm not sure if that's the game unable to recognize current technology, like how with a CD installation of the first game when you Custom select all components it tells you that you have not enough space, but I don't remember it telling me that when I played BG awhile ago, with this same computer.
I started up dxdiag, and I have Direct X 11, 8 gigs of RAM, i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00 GHz (8 CPUs).
My graphics card is Nvidia Geforce GTX 460M, 1.5 GB. In the Nvidia control panel, it says I have driver version 280.26. Does any of this sound like it could be causing the lag?

Sounds like the default direct X driver does not like one of the games settings.
I suggest you open BGConfig.exe from the folder your game is in and starting from the top set;
Game difficulty = anything you want so long as it set to something for the test bgconfig will be happy.
Hardware = tick both boxes and put the sliders in the middle... screenshot... Move down to;

Gameplay/ Audio = put a tick in attack sounds only.
/Visual = un-tick Critical Hit Screen Shake.
Miscellaneous /Cache Options = 500.
/Frame Rate = 60.
/Enhanced Pathfinding = 32000 & tick the box.
Un-tick Gamespy for now.
Graphics/ Display = 32bit full screen & unlock modes 1024X768.
Graphics/ 2D & 3D Options = tick 3D Animations, Use 3D Acceleration & 32 bit Textures but not Disable Vertex Padding... make sure it says “Default OpenGL Driver” in the box then press the “Test” key.
If you get the coloured boxes then your driver is compatible if not then you’ll need to go to Nvidia webpage and look for an older driver for that model card.
You will need admin rights to run this test but as long as you installed outside the programs folder and don’t have any invasive antivirus programs running as well then that shouldn’t be an issue.
Note that these setting aren’t optimal but they won’t put any stress on your system either, once you get it working you can then add extra Cache (100 at a time) up to 1000 and even nudge up the Frame rate to 70 or 80... Modern cards often have issues with anything below 60.
If your laptop is a weird widescreen one then when you un-lock modes you may have one of the other resolutions as an option eg. 1280X960 but try the 1024X768 (safe) first & good luck.
I suggest you open BGConfig.exe from the folder your game is in and starting from the top set;
Game difficulty = anything you want so long as it set to something for the test bgconfig will be happy.
Hardware = tick both boxes and put the sliders in the middle... screenshot... Move down to;

Gameplay/ Audio = put a tick in attack sounds only.

Hey, thanks again!
So I made the changes in the config just as you said, and voila, there is no lag whatsoever! However, it has created a different issue. The game runs super fast, as if I took a video of it and put it on fast forward. I'm guessing that is because the frame rate is at 60. It was a little weird moving the hand in the menu screen as well. However, I like that the lag is gone, but is there a way to make it so the game runs at normal speed again?
EDIT: Aha, well, I was reading the Frame Rate description in the config, and it said that it would make the game faster on fast machines, so I tried turning it back down to 30 again, and now the game runs fine, as well as with no lag! Thanks so much USS Norway!

IMO running at 30 frames is an illusion because the game is still running at the same speed but is only showing you half of what’s happening.
I’d open the config Gameplay/ Speed adjustment and lower the Automated 3D animations as well as the Frame Rate (third up from the bottom)... try 50/50 Speed/Frames first then test and adjust by 10s until you have something you can live with.
Still, it’s your game and I’m happy for you.

Okay, I haven't been posting on these fora a lot, but I seriously need help with BG and BG2.
Due to a bout of nostalgia, I was interested in doing a full play-through of both BG and BG2. Luckily, I have the 4DVD version of the games, so installing was a cinch. I also downloaded some wonderful mods by the GIbberlingThree, namely the Widescreen Mod, Unfinished Business and BG1NPC mods.
Strangely enough, the game ran fine with the mod installed. At least, for a while. After I had cleared the bandit camp and headed into Chapter Four, the game started to suffer from ridiculous lag. Everything just does not move in sync, it's as if you're controlling the mouse through a field of jell-o.
In an attempt to fix this problem, turned off the OpenGL support, which promptly solved the problem with the downside of spell-effect looking ridiculous. I would like to have my 3D support back, but I have no idea how to achieve this.
I tried all suggestions above, to no avail.

I have performance issues especially during dragon battles for some reason. It's all fine when the dragon is neutral, but once the ring goes red the game casts 'power word: slow' on my laptop.
Also i have differences in framerate between lots of characters and the presence of water (for some reason the top right option in the graphics options fixes water related drop, and the bottom left fixes that caused by lots of people on the screen; except boss/dragon battles)
