I can totally understand why people might choose Synthesis, but it's just not for me it goes against my Shepard ideals and beliefs. My Shepard as much as he liked the Geth had no problem with choosing Destroy. Not only does he believe the Geth and Edi are just machines and will never ever truly be alive, but he also feels that the Geth and Edi's sacrifice is well worth it for the destruction of the Reapers.

I too do not have issues for people who choose Synthesis, I myself can't.   I also don't like Control.

I do have a problem sacrificing the Geth and EDI, but out of the three choices Destroy is the least-of-the-worst but still a terrible option.

I mostly don't choose destroy because of it's long-term consequences, though sacrificing EDI and geth would also hurt

Starbrat is an evil genocidal midget who believes that without reaping 'the created' will always 'destroy creators'. Synthesis is it's alternate solution. Reapers no longer view life as a threat because it has been neutered so to speak.

so basically it's because you don't trust starbrat and think that synthesis will take away free will. But sadly:
a) the premise of the thread is trusting Starbrat
B) we are told that synthesis doesn't take away free will

Guess what, that happens in most of videogames where you are the saviour of the galaxy/earth/your country/whatever. Your choices affect the res of your people's lives. You just choose what you think it's best.
Yes, such a major change will be scary for some, but my Shepard (who went full retard at this point, but that has already been discussed) is not afraid of making a few people upset
Synthesis destroys diversity.
No it doesn't. From what we have seen, all it does is give people green eyes. Which sucks if you liked your girlfriends baby blues, but is preferable to extinction.
There are still different races, its just they have been upgraded. It's like you and I went out and got a similar tattoo - wuld change the fact we are both different.
Synthesis doesn't solve anything! You can still create new synthetics and be killed by them!
To that I can only say - F*CK Catalyst and his "created will always rebel agains the creator". I have a car and it didn't kill me yet
You are doing what Saren wanted, as opposed to what Anderson wanted.
This makes me facepalm every single time. Saren wanted to live in submission. Shepard doesn't.
And Anderson... Anderson is a simple man. A soldier. He just wants to blow all this ****ers up. But he isn't the hero of this story (neither, admittedly, are you, but you get to decide between Red, Blue or Green).
You have been indoctrinated.
Don't believe IT, don't care about IT, don't bring it into this discussion

Huzzah! Well done.

I missed your post lol. I honestly did.
(now I sound like I am in denial)
So I guess... thank? Unless you were being sarcastic

I am really sad now because of another issue that's been pointed out (and another piece of proof that Synthesis was rushed and is, currently, ultra-stupid) - crunchy food

Crunchy food doesn't exist. Until the EC confirms or denies it, I'll treat the notion of half-synthetic plants as as silly as it is. And if it actually *is* confirmed, I'll disown the EC or switch to Control.

Actually, I recommend ignoring the parts of the description that make no sense instead of trying to integrate them into your ME universe. It will only result in a major f*uckup.OK, we're left with nothing but the combination of synthetics and organics then, but that, at least, isn't a nonsensical notion.

(see how I deal with things here).

I know, right? I mean, the Reapers couldn't be bothered to harvest the yahg but suddenly became all concerned about ascencion of plants?
Sometimes I think they came up with the idea of Synthesis in like one day, no one though ANYTHING through and they just were all like "GREEN EYES FOR EVERYBODY KEWL" and now we have to make sense of it

But why stop with plants? How about viruses, bacteria, insects? Or the steak you were about to eat when synthesis struck?

It's okay OP, my Shepard chose synthesis too... I did a fanfic playthrough where my Shepard gets indoctrinated at the end.

Tha's why I dismiss circuity plants as part of the evidence. After all, pro-destroy people keep claiming that EDI survives despite there being no proof of it (and I think fandom that did the videocomparison of TIM's and Shepard's eyes would have bothered to document such a major plotpoint).

Quick off-topic question since you are obviously not here for a discussion - why do most pro-IT people have Liara avatars?

No I was agreeing. Especially the part about Anderson, given how much people love to brag about following him by choosing Destroy. I mean, I like the guy, how can you not when he's voiced by Keith David? But I've always felt him to be out-of-touch and idealistic kind of person.

Choosing to follow in the path of Anderson or (un-indoctrinated) TIM is a push for me.

I think nobody involved in writing the ending really thought about what the defining difference between synthetic and organic life really is, physically.

It's a typical Mac Walters setup. "Science? Never heard of it. Consistency? We have Liara, we don't need no bloody consistency. Who cares anyway..." Such things happen if you let a comic book writer write SF that is supposed to be taken seriously.

I don't mind the work of having to create a scenario that makes sense myself. I but mind that the writers expected us to swallow that bullsh*t whole. That's insulting.

At least they're pretty (the avatars :P ).

 - Why Shepard would choose Synthesis?
 - Because he's indoctrinated! :D

Can you imagine the traffic jams after shocked people crashed when they got synthesized. Doctors and hospitals and probably shrinks will be flooded. Dogs will be crushed by shopping bags of shocked ladies all across the galaxy. To name a few of the possible accidents that might happen because of the event. ;)

As a lifelong Marvel fan who had recently been subjected to Joe Quesada (not so recently in fact but well... sigh), I am actually surprised how much that hurt

Not sure what you mean. I didn't intend to offend anyone. But you must admit that comic books' usual treatment of science has always been somewhat cavalier. And the change between ME1 and ME2, when Mac Walters took over, is very noticeable in that regard.

Erm... *stutters* Convoys! Yes. That's it. Military convoys. The old ladies were watching the soldiers. ;)

Woah! Intergalactic? It's universal now? Any chance that synthesis can spread to parallel universes?

As much as I rail on Synthesis had Bioware explained it in SOME capacity I wouldn't have as much of an issue.

The only thing they can do to make it worse for you and I is to ACTUALLY mix DNA.

That would be some real magic.

I am not offended, of course. I should have worded it differently
As a lifelong comic books fan who have witnessed many, many retcons, not to mention the current main man Joe himself, I am actually surprised by how hard Mass Effect 3 retcons (written by true comic writer, no less) hit me

No. In fact old ladies were there to be deployed as a weapon for extra-desperate moment of fighting. They would pet all destroyers in oblivion and unleash their powerful "Good Old Times" monologues
