I've played DA O for about 4 hours. Went to resume and screen shows I am logged in but message says I can't load a saved game without being logged in. Why?

As you have not registered your game, I cannot tell what version of DA:O you have. Most likely, however, your DLC has become unauthorized, which means previous games won't load (because some of the items/quests they reference, even if you haven't used/played them yet, are disabled).
I suggest you read over the "Read First" and trouble shooting FAQs pinned towards the top of the forum. If that does not help, then the Read First post will show you how to get us more information in order to help you.
While registering your game is not required, you'll probably find that a lot of the users who frequent this board are reluctant to help those who have not done so... FYI.

Thanks for the response.
My game is registered and I have confirmed this online. However, it just occurred to me that as a result of some unrelated issues I used Restore to an earlier date and suspected that this may have changed my Registery to exclude whatever Bioware(?) may have placed there. I just did a restore to a date before the above restore and the game now works - confirming my guess that it was the Restore that caused this problem.
Thanks again - and may all your games be great ones.

Your game is not registered (do not confuse the Windows Regisitry with this website, which connects to your authorised content) on here (which is what Raen was referring to I am sure) if you have no icons under your avatar. Unless you use a different login (why would anyone?) for here and the game.
Still, "READ FIRST" should be followed, well, errr, first. E.g. the problems you describe tend to happen more often with digital download formats, than with disc installs.
