Hmm.... here an in-game example to make you understand how bland is the gameplay:

!!! SPOILER !!!

read at your own risk!

At some point Winny will give you trouble if you got the bloodmage specialization.
Well... is not surprise that Winny itself can become a bloodmage if you want to... and her is a character that stand all out against blood magic!

So the point is: some thing are just not rational, other thing are just not clear enough to allow player the right choice.
No one here is telling the game is bad, just that need quite an adjustment :)

Ok here are some real-life examples to make you understand:

The Hermit:
Vinny No-nose asks you to make sure Jimmy the Snitch ends up sleeping with the fishes. You go to Jimmy and he says he will give you a new stereo if you can go get his watch back from Vinny. So you go back to Vinny and buy the watch from him. Vinny doesn't think this is odd because obviously you are going to whack Jimmy like he asked you to.

Now, WTF do you think Vinny is going to say when he finds out the Jimmy is still breathin? Hint....he isn't going to trade with you.

First, this reasoning falls flat because returning the acorn does not seem to be what triggers the Mad Hermit's refusal to trade (I'm not certain, but I recall being able to trade with the Mad Hermit after returning the acorn but before completing Nature of the Beast).

Second, because I talked to the Grand Oak first, the Mad Hermit never asked me to kill the Grand Oak.

Wade:
You love to get stuff done to your car. You constantly go to a local shop to get improvements done, but you don't deal with the front desk, you go directly to the bays and talk to the mechanics, and make the deals with them. The shop gets the money you are paying, but all of the other customers that were waiting get put off until your car is done. This doesn't happen just once...you go back every week and ****** off all of the customers waiting for work to be done. Soon, all of those customers stop oing to the shop AND they tell all their friends about the ****ty service they received. So sure, the shop has your cash, but it just lost out on 10 or twenty times MORE cash and their business will be affected for years. Not surprisingly the next time you bring your car in (after numerous warnings) the shop won;t let thier mechanics work on it.

This reasoning falls flat because Master Wade is the manager ("Isn't Master Wade in charge here?").  Don't you think that Master Wade could intercede on my behalf when Herren refuses me service?

Also, I don't see how the 200+ gold sovereigns that I would spend in total plus my continued business would result in a net loss of business.  C'mon, be serious.

@ Kepha & RinpocheSchnozberry:  See above for my thoughts on your similar replies.

To moving the discussion to another forum, I wouldn't mind if the thread is MOVED.  Locking the thread and restarting the discussion in another forum would be a pain in the a**, however.

Do you think every person is always rational, i mean, Harren just don't like you after keeping Wade occupied. There is not always good reasoning behind decisions that people make.

And with the Mad hermit it is explained in his description, he is mad! Maybe he just did not like you screwing around with things. And you only have to trade things for the helmet and the book as the acorn you can get by looking into his home :S... he will attack you though, but that is his fault.

If you honestly feel like a game or game company has "****ed" you, get a ****ing life. Seriously. I mean this sincerely, and do take into account this is coming from a guy who played this game for almost 10 hours straight yesterday.

Saving often is the key if the choices aren't to your liking. Saving often is not every 2-3 hours, its saving before every major discussion, mission, and/or after mob battles. I've learned that playing through several Bioware games. Oh and I think getting it on your next 90+ hours play through is a good answer. I mean that is why it has replayability for me. If I got 100% the first time through I'd never had to play the game again, and wouldn't care much about playing the other origins.

I do find it amusing that the guy who played DA for 10 hrs yesterday tells me to get a life... ;-)

If you hadn't caught on, the title is dramatic to attract a bit of attention and get these issues patched.  I find these two situations annoying because I DO have a life and won't be playing five 90+ hr runs of the game in a row.  These situations detract from my enjoyment of the game (and constitute bad design, imo), and I feel that I have every right to complain.  If no ones b****es, then it doesn't get fixed.  Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that.

to OP:

Wade is NOT the manager NOR head of the armory, since he obviously lack the people skills to make trades happening.

I took the same route as you did, talk to the Oak first, then to the Hermit, but I managed to trade all 3 items the first go, and he DOES have the "Kill Oak" dialog at that time. In fact, I keep my options open till the last minute, passing the Oak and the hermit several times. The hermit just don't have any more things to trade. You are right about after the majoy quest, he won't talk to you anymore. I doubt if you can still trigger the fight with him by peeking inside his home.

One of the lines of dialogue is (verbatim):  "Isn't Master Wade in charge here?"  Master Wade then overrules Herren and creates a suit of armor from your scales.  Seems like the boss to me... ;-)

Sure, you can OFFER to kill the Grand Oak.  But I'm 99% sure that the Mad Hermit didn't ASK me to do so.  You cannot trigger a fight after completing Nature of the Beast.  I'd be satisfied if you could obtain the trade items in another fashion (pickpocketing, or force/combat).

These situations wouldn't be so irritating if they weren't so nonsensical.

Also, realistic or not, each detracts from enjoyment of the game.  Wanted that cool thief armor?  Been saving most of the game to afford it?  Too bad!  A badly-stereotyped gay merchant is going throw a hissy fit (despite the gold that you shower upon his shop) and refuse you service.  Sucks to be you.  Yeah, so... ;-)
