Not going to die, but my throat is so sore I cannot talk or sleep.  Coughing up razor blades and nastiness.  So weak.

Yup - looking for sypathy and yucks.  Stories.  Whatever you care to contribute.

Never been this sick before except like after major surgery (arm amputated, disc fusion).  For just a chest and sinus infection this one is the worst ever.

I did see the doctor and got the medication for the infection, but it is part virus so I just gotta wait it out.  Holy crap this must be the kind of thing that killed people before antibiotics.

I'd make an entertaining joke - but nothing comes to minds.

If it's any consolation to you, I had a terrible UTI about a month ago - I'm extremely stubborn about going to see the doctor about anything, so I just ignored it and hoped it would go away on its own.

Too bad infections don't quite work that way - it got to a point where I couldn't take a ****** for the life of me, and I was in extreme pain. I thought I was about to pass a kidney stone, so I ended up going to the ER - but they were backed up from an influx of patients and no rooms were available, so I ended up waiting in the lobby for about six hours in pure agony.

Once they finally got me back there, they medicated me pretty good and I went home the next morning with pyridium, antibiotics, and painkillers - thankfully all of that worked perfectly and I started feeling better soon after.

The moral of the story is: if you have signs of an infection of any kind, don't be an idiot like me and go see a doctor before you end up in a world of pain... or worse.

About a week of extreme diarrhea and it doesn't seem like its letting up despite the fact that I've used up the rest of the medecine and may have to buy more.
Spent all day yesterday doing yard work despite the fact that my stomach has been eating itself and all I got was why didn't I do it sooner in the week.
Sympathy?  HA!

Humans are gross, aren't we? Few forms of malady are as glorified as the amputation. I guess that's why they don't do sinus infections, UTIs, and diarrhea in the movies . . . except bad comedies or sitcoms.

Amputation was the result of a car accident. No alcohol. Just got cut off on the expressway. I swereved to avoid this guy and my tire hit the ditch in the median. At that point my car was like a train on tracks. The ditch shot my car into the air (hard to steer an airborn car) and Ilanded on the other side of the highway. Blam. Head on collision. Today there is a barrier protecting the median instead of a ditch as I was one of 43 such accidents in that spot that year. Since you're curious about the morbidity, I also fractured my skull, suffered brain trauma, ruptured a disc in my neck and one in my back.

I'm seeing now this was a bad idea for a thread. But in my defense, I was feverish, doped up, and in "baby mode" earlier today. I'm going to stop posting here.

But thank you for posting. Took my mind off of things for a few minnutes. You are good people :-)

There is no cure, you have to don't be a customer of drugstores for drugs which are actually virus sympathizers.

Aw, here's some sympathy - being sick sucks. Especially if you don't have anyone around to baby you. Image IPB If my old man were on this thread he'd tell you to take a hot shower and "sit on the pot for awhile - that'll sort you out." Not sure how much help that is. Image IPB
I can tell you a real life story that will make you feel smart, though - even if you're doped up.
A girl was dating a friend of mine in college. We'll call her Amy. She had nothing to recommend her except her looks. She wasn't smart, and she wasn't nice. He got over it and dumped her. She showed up at my door at 2 a.m. crying and I didn't have the heart to send her away, so I listened. She told me all about how the breakup was her fault because she put him "up on a pendulum." (she meant pedestal - again, she wasn't too bright). I tried to stop myself from laughing as I asked her what she meant. "Well you know, when you put someone up on a pendulum, they're bound to fall off of it."

Of course they'll fall of of it, I thought. Pendulum's swing back and forth. Image IPB

But she was crying, so y'know, I was nice and kept it to myself.

It's been years. I ran into her the other day and she brought up the breakup with my friend. I jokingly mentioned the pendulum conversation and she must have caught that something about it was funny to me, because she looked at me quizzically and said "Oh, I know - I always get that wrong. It's pen-duh-lum, not pen-dyoo-lum."

So don't put people on pendulum's, no matter how you spell it - they're even more dangerous than pedestals.

The moral of the story is, take comfort from the fact that you'll recover from this illness, but there's no recovering from stupid. Image IPB
Get well soon!

Turns out I have Pertussis.

It's like that scene in Seinfeld, "Don't go to the wedding. We are the parents and we're not even going. Did you know India is the only country in the world that still has The Plague? I mean really . . . the plague."

Who the hell contracts Whooping Cough in America . . . apparently me.

Anyway, apparently my diagnosis warranted my extreme reaction. Doctor says I should plan on coughing hard and uncontrollably for 4 more weeks.

Actully its more common than you think, its one of the leading causes of infant deaths in the US. Easily preventable with a tetanus shot (Dtap), which in the US is for at least this year maybe next, for free at your local health department or docs office, as it has reached epidemic status and has claimed a high number of deaths among the elderly and young.

Whooping cough sounds funny but its no joke, that actully has killed a great many people the last few years.

I sat in on a medical class once, so yes you can call me a Doctor and I can say for certain that the only solution is amputation and leeches!

You know what would help? Go to random lab and demand to be taken apart, have some science stuff put in you, and put back together. They also pay you for that.
